i thought i would write a letter to my local paper and i was wondering what you all thought of it.. .

Great letter, the only suggestion I could make is to possible look at explaining "disfellowshipping" and "shunned" as some outside may not know what the terms mean
ie "if you question you will be put out of the congregation (disfellowshipped) and lose all contact with family and friends (shunned)" or something like that.
i recently saw my jw brother and sil and listened to them talk about poor sister sick(o) who has been diagnosed with major mental problems.
she went to the doctor's and the doctor supposedly began to berate her out of the blue because she is a jehovah's witness.
now the family wants to have the doctor formally rebuked for his so called "discriminatory comments".
Because I refuse to apologise to a bunch of idiots for having my daughter out of wedlock and show "proper" repentance for that so they will let me back in.
Besides, I've come to realise I was never a good witness, I hated meetings, I hated field service, I doodled in my watchtower and books and counted the minutes until we got out of there.
I think the only reason I stayed after the first year was that if I left my sister was going to shun me like there was no tomorrow and I think she might of shunned me if I didn't get baptised.

i had to make arrangements for my kids to be babysat somewhere else until after the wedding.

I'm sorry you are going through this Lulu. It always amazes me how they go the WTS goes on about how such examples jw's are with their fine "christian conduct" and how wonderful they are and then they get them to treat their own families like this.

we all hear stories an experiences that happened to a "friend of a friend," and the witnesses are no exception.
they even have their own urban legends.
here are my favorites, and please post yours as well.. 1. watchtower theologists according to one of the old guys i used to pioneer with, there is a super-scary-secret organization of apostates called "watchtower theology.
I remember being told the smurf doll story, but in the version I heard during the WT study the doll stood up and started yelling abuse and walked out of the hall. I also remember the two sisters with the angels behind them. The funniest one was the "I was once that guy who made the deal with Satan" story about the guy who wanted the JW girl. I can't remember if it was in a magazine, related at a meeting or at a assembly though.
well once again my fiance has gone through and cleaned my computer wiping out all the cookies.
as i hadn't saved this site as a favourite i went looking typing in different versions to try and find the website and i stumbled across the official website which is currently spouting an old awake article from 2001 on battered women.. it even went on in another article to talk about a guy who attended catholic church but frequently abused his wife but the moment he came to study with the witnesses it all stopped...... of course they don't mention anything about the frequent abuse that happens in their own congregations.. it annoys me so much that they are such hippocritics.. .
