They got up to all sorts of high jinks, at that time. By comparison Bethel is really quiet, now. They don't sew people into mail sacks and stuff, anymore

anyone remember David Sibrey. He was a character. From what I know he's at Bethel now. I may be getting mixed up - perhaps he only did temp circuit work. He always looked like he'd been there done it, so what else is new
i know its a question that has been asked a thousand times, but what really made you exit the jws .. for instance, my wife and i, having found out about the u.n., 607bce, failed prophecies etc.
gave all this information to my wifes brother, along with many so called friends.
we came out but the brother and friends stayed in.. the only reasoning i can put on it, is that we made an effort to find out for ourselves what was the real truth, the others were told and given written evidence - but still didnt make a decision.
In my case I was prepared to go along with it despite niggling doubts so long as it didn't seem to be harming people. When it began to dawn on me that vulnerable people were being hurt - for instance an elderly pioneer, 2 children put at risk from a pedophile in the congregation and no warning given - I knew I had to stop supporting the organisation and tacitly agreeing with it by my presence there.

i've heard that the rate at which younger kids are leaving has increased.
is this true?
That could be a tactic. The religion can hang itself by its own words. You just have to put them out there, because Dubs try not to think about them too often if they want to be happy.

i thought i should write a big thanks to simon for this board, not only has it been a big eye-opener to me regarding my past and helped me realise how many people have been through the same stuff as i have, but it's through this board that i've met a wonderful woman, michelle (calico ethel).. michelle is beautiful, intelligent, funny and luckily for me has terrible eyesight, i feel very fortunate to have met her and hopefully (presuming i can keep on hiding her glasses!
) we shall be very happy together in the future.
she has rather recklessly and bravely agreed to move in with me and is moving over at the beginning of february.

i have once heard the christian watchtower society described as the borg, (a reference to the work of the late gene roddenberry) and my good friend who is still hopelessly trapped in a new form of lies (more christendom crap) is now professing something similar in this new "christ preaching" stuff.
why not return to the true jewish roots of the bible if one is going to actually be a bible student?

Off the top of my head, my advice would be to see yourself as a survivor.
'Imagine that you have just this minute survived the tsunami what would your thoughts be' - and I would then encourage that frame of mind.
today i was woken by two 20 something year old jw guys.
i let them offer the mags and then told them i was not interested in religion.
after the reasoning book comeback i told them i was a jw but left a year ago.
perhaps one of them one day in the not too distant future will remember what you said and feel prompted to go away do some research
