Yeah, it's an eye opener for sure! I don't know if I ever really believed so much as wanted to be accepted. I do hope you get some recovery help and get your life back, or maybe get your life for the first time.

Why do they do that?
by nonamegiven inmy "best friend" who will no longer talk to me because i'm df'd is serving temporary service ay brooklyn bethel.
he and his wife were to be there for a month or two a year or so ago.
when they were just a few days from the end of thier stay, they got a letter asking them if they could extend it for another month or so.

You know what ticks me off the most? I was the one that got this friend in the truth. I studied with him, encouraged him, counsled him and kept him going. Now he's in till death and I'm out for life!

My Personal Experiences thus far
by Ken O ini was brought up around the "truth" as a child.
my parents studied some then later after they were divorced, we (mom, sis and i) moved in with my grandparents, who were inactive witnesses.
though inactive, they still touted all the wts lingo and doctrine.

I fully expect to be in a similar boat soon. I'm DF'd and getting ready for reinstatment so I can fade. My wife is very devoted so I must bite my tounge. I would say this: keep your ears OPEN. She will slip and say something, maybe something little to express doubts or disagreement with the org. Then you can make one or two LITTLE statments to help her along. It's like making a little chip in a huge dam. Once a little water starts to flow, it aint' gonna stop by itself.

But why would Bethel do that? Are they so disorganized that they don't know they need you for the next 4 months untill the day before? I don't think so. I think it's another way for them to get you into a submissive posture.

My "best friend" who will no longer talk to me because I'm DF'd is serving temporary service ay Brooklyn Bethel. He and his wife were to be there for a month or two a year or so ago. When they were just a few days from the end of thier stay, they got a letter asking them if they could extend it for another month or so. They did. They returned home later. Now, they went back some months ago and again at the end of the term they got another letter asking if they could extend thier stay. They did. Then that term came to an end and the night before they were to leave they got another letter asking if they could yet again extend thier stay. I have heard of this quite a few times. I'm wondering, why the heck does the GB do this?? Why do they wait just days or hours before you are supposed to leave to ask you to stay? I think it's to weed out those who are so devoted as to put thier entire life on hold for the society. I think they are looking for people like my buddy who sold thier house and quite thier jobs just to serve for weeks at Bethel. If they did that they are clearly mindless people and are therefore PERFECT for the organization the bethel service.

Had a NICE 20 minute conversation with an elder.....
by AK - Jeff ini was stupified that i was not shunned, as has been my treatment most of the time for the past 3 years.. i walked into the coffee-shop on my way home.
it was cold and i wanted a warm brew to keep me company.
as i approached the counter to order, a strangely familiar fellow was right in front of me.

It's nice when you find someone who is at least close to a "true friend" in the "truth".

Let it rip, or hold my tongue? What would you do?
by Confession inthe basic scoop: my best jw friend from michigan came into org with his wife when he was about 26 (he's about 45 now.
) he loved the org, but, aside from being a really cool and interesting guy, he also suffered from depression quite a lot.
more than 10 years ago he approached me about anti-jw stuff he found online.

I would talk about everything but WTS. It sounds like you guys have lots of history and lots to catch up on. The WTS will come up when its time and then I'd feel him out and tread lightly. I am also one who sufferes from depression and can tell you that WTS is at least partially responsible for my depression.
