If one makes a statement that someone else thinks is 'overly critical'. Are they saying the statement is 'overly critical'? Or are they saying YOU are 'overly critical'? Or both?

Statements - Opinions Please!!!
by IMHO inif one makes a statement that someone else thinks is 'overly critical'.
are they saying the statement is 'overly critical'?
or are they saying you are 'overly critical'?

Another angle on this - There are no doubt in many congregations brothers that are qualified but are being held back by elders who do not want to lose their power and control. As servants the elders can hold even more control over them.

Meetings v Field Service
by IMHO inwhat do/did you see as more important?
there has been so much emphasis of late (for quite a while really) on meeting attendance.
if you miss a meeting, it's a big, big problem, yet if you miss field service for a day, or a week or even a fortnight nothing is said as long as you get that 1 hour in / month.

The Elders of course would prefer that you do the national/congregation average but even at 10hrs/month that's still a lot less time preaching than being at meetings. There are those that are quic to ring you if you miss a meeting, to 'see if you're ok' but have you heard of anyone ringing to check on you if you miss a field service arrangement. Our field service is personal, shouldn't our meeting attendance also be personal.

Why, exactly, are you here?
by animal inwhy, exactly, are you here on jwd?.
are you out of the jw's and still needing association with like people?.
do you lack the skills to have real friends in real life?.
-
IMHO
Animal to deviate from the main topic and pick up on one of your comments, you are wrong. You say; "I firmly believe that a person controls what offends them... thus nothing I say could be offensive." That is only true of the emotionally strong and they are few and far between these days. For example if a punch the average joe in the stomach it will hurt, whereas if I punch a trained boxer in the stomach he will not even feel it. So it goes for emotional strength.

public talk will be cut to 30 minutes in the near future (January)?
by Nulite injust got off the phone with an old bethel connection.
the public talk will soon be cut to 30 minutes.
the outlines will stay the same.
-
IMHO
I've been saying that this should happen for years. In Business training or seminars no one would sit listening to one man speak for 45mins because no one would be able to stay focused for that period.

Names of Speakers
by IMHO inwhy is that at conventions and assemblies a big point is made of introducing speakers by name, when the writers of the magazine articles and outlines are kept quite?

Commenting at Meetings: A Way Of Expressing Your Faith???
by R.F. inas we are told by the wt, commenting at the meetings is supposed to be a way of expressing your faith in the congregation.
i hardly felt this today during the wt study today or every meeting for that matter.
it seems more like this is the time when everyone wants to correct others or direct their comments in a way that it's condemnatory to others.

IMHO
No it's not and the only scripture used to back up that view in HEB 10:23 is actually talking about 'public declaration' i.e. Field Ministry

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 4-15-07 (EXALT JAH'S NAME)
by blondie inlet us exalt jehovah's name together.
" (psalm 34:3) what a fine example for us to follow!does matthew 26:30 say anything about singing "jehovahs praises"?.

Paragraph 8 states that David "experienced another narrow escape from death". Surely as Jehovah's anointed one he had divine protection so Jehovah would not have allowed anyone to kill him. So therefore he needn't have run away or feared Saul or anyone else but merely trusted in Jehovah for protection.

Participation - Commenting - Answering-Up
by IMHO incall it what you want.
is it a privilege?
considering most do not want to do it given the choice.

IMHO
Call it what you want. Is it a privilege? Considering most do not want to do it given the choice. Is it just held up as a privilege so it can be taken away if wrongdoing occurs. If you're not doing it they have nothing to take away. Plus if it is such a benefit to us then why take away that benefit if we have done wrong surely we need more help and if commenting helps us surely we should be encouraged to do all the more so. -- Any comments appreciated!
