Hitler planned to do away with Christianity, including Catholicism, in the Third Reich. Catholic priests and nuns were sent to concentration camps.

While the Vatican did sign a treaty with Hitler in 1933, it did so based on Hitler's lies and false information Hitler provided. This is not unlike the situation with other major powers that also failed to recognize Hitler's intent until too late.

Your Favorite JW Guilt Trips

what are your favorite jw guilt trips?

mine are: "you hurt my feelings when you say things like that" and "oh i pray to jehovah, that you will come back, what did we do wrong with you"

Said to my grown daughter: "Your grandmother is so upset that your mother is not coming to meetings. You'd think that she could come just to make her mother happy."

This was around 2000.

A couple of years later the same "sister" said to the same grown daughter: "Why doesn't your mother come to meetings?"

Several points angered me in this -- 1) Thinking that using my mother to guilt me would get me to come back to meetings, when I was taking care of my mother and communicating quite well with her at this point (just not going to meetings with her). 2) Asking my daughter why "I" don't do something.

This particular "sister" lives on the same street I do. But obviously she has never had the nerve to ask me any question directly.

Last time I saw her in Kroger and spoke to her, I got a quick mumble and a deer-in-the-headlights look.

Because I'm such a DANGEROUS person, don't ya know?

If You Were Wrong About The JWs, Maybe Your Current Beliefs Aren't True

if you're here, it's likely you were once fooled by what the jws believe.. back then, i expect you thought you were smart.

you thought you could tell if you were being lied to.

yet, they got past your mental defenses and sucked you in.. knowing this, how can you be sure your current religious beliefs are true?.

Some of us were raised as JWs. Like most people, we accepted the belief system of our parents (and usually our extended family and their associates) as true.

We lived through a lot in being "led" by the Watchtower Society. Along the way, we also learned how to think critically and how to reason outside of the JW box (at least we did if we are no longer JWs).

Acceptanace of a different religious faith than the one you were raised with implies conversion. Conversion is a process involving not only the mind but the heart.

I have come to believe that faith is not built one study at a time, as the JWs would have us believe. Faith is a gift (grace) of the Holy Spirit. God doesn't give us our gifts in pieces.

Each of us is free to believe or not believe in God and/or religion. I believe.

My history as a JW is irrelevant to the truth/falsity of my current beliefs.

Looking for GDA's earlier than 1983

the gda is short for grand discouragement article.. you know... the wt articles that try to make the partakers stop partaking or else!...

i have a theory that 1982/83 was the year when the replacements (now called the additions) were toooooo excessive and the wt had to start writing feedback articles to reduce the number or partakers.

i know there was a gda in the 1983 wt but what about years before that.

The January 15, 1951 Watchtower has information about why the "other sheep" should not partake. So the "discouraging" has been going on for a long, long time.

here's a little highlight from this week's local service meeting that prompts my question.. it's the annual, 20 minute, robotic hand-pumping session conducted by the secretary trying to get everyone all hyped/guilted up for this summer's district convention.

anyway, towards the end of the q&a, there's a paragraph that talks about offering a ride to the elderly/infirm ones in your congo.

If Your Aged Parent Asked U Not To Give Them Blood, Would U Agree?

if your jw parent trusted you to comply with their wishes, would you honor their request?

I would want their wishes specific and in writing.

Subject to the above, yes I would honor my aged parent's request.

My parents have now both died, but I would not have violated their stated wishes as to medical care. They both had health care powers of attorney and living wills.

I believe that every person who is of legal age has the right to accept or reject medical care, even if I completely disagree with their decision.

Do you shun Jw's now?

i have gone thru phases with this.

i sometimes have forced jw's who shun me to speak, or be embarrassed if they don't.

then i let up on that as the hurting lessened over time.

Sometimes things get pretty weird. Perhaps because I have never been disfellowshipped or DA'd, many Witnesses are friendly to me. My oldest daughter has a new baby by a man who was raised as a Witness and even baptized. The guy is a total jerk, uses drugs, has been in trouble with the law, etc. but never been "dealt with" by the congregation. His mother is a pioneer, and when our grandson was in the NICU (for 3 months!), she could only go see the baby if my daughter or I would take her.

I took her to see the baby a number of times, and she was very nice to me and didn't Witness to me even. But then I found out that she told my daughter that I told her that I "pray to Jehovah a lot", and that she was quite sure that I am going to "come back" soon. What I actually said to her was that I "pray a lot", and what that really means is that I go to Catholic Mass regularly, pray the Rosary and sometimes the Liturgy of the Hours. Of course I didn't tell her I am becoming Catholic. It is none of her business.

I don't live by their rules anymore so I refuse to shun anybody. But I fully expect that once I am a baptized Catholic (soon!) and that becomes common knowledge, even the lady with whom I share a grandchild will not speak to me.

I think the Golden Rule is correct -- and we do not have to be uncharitable just because these poor brainwashed people believe that that is how they have to act.

More Xmas deception by the Watchtower

wouldn't it imply that the magazine or website was actually bemoaning the growing secularisation of a "christian" festival, much like the slogans we see of late "put christ back into christ-mas"?

I recently read through this crap while I was preparing a Christmas entry for my blog ( http://nanaruthann.blogspot.com ).

As Witnesses, we were taught to create "straw men" and then shoot them down. We were never taught to directly and objectively answer people's questions, because the Watchtower answers are only palatible when fed after a certain amount of brainwashing.

An example I was thinking of was how the Watchtower makes a big deal out of the fact that the wise men came to a house, and they did not arrive on the night of Jesus' birth. Well guess what, the Catholic Church and other Christian churches have always known that. In fact, we will be celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany this coming Sunday precisely to commemorate that event. Many Catholics (maybe other Christians too, I don't know) teach these truths to their children by having the various Nativity figures arrive at the scene at different times. Some folks have had the wise men figures wandering around the house for a while now ;-)

How did we ever read the Watchtower garbage anyway?
