Don't spread it around, but I have it on pretty good authority that the WTS actually did produce a functional Universal Translator down in John Kurzen's office in the Carpenter Shop. However, they ended up selling the rights to make them to Gene Roddenberry, who made extensive use of them on the Enterprise. You probably didn't realize that all those guys on Star Trek were actually speaking their native tongues, which was then translated on the fly into English by the device they bought from the WTS. The Society had to sell it because, although it was quite good at translating Klingon, it tended to overheat badly when translating Watchtower articles. They briefly tried to use it to translate Bethel Office memos into Newboyspeak, but again it tended to overheat. The last straw was when one of the UTs blew up trying to translate John Booth's morning text comments into English. Since they couldn't use it themselves, the only thing left to do was to sell it to Gene. Too bad, after all the work Dean Songer put into it.

i'm trying to remember what is said during baptism.

do they baptise "in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit"?

i can't remember.. .

Your Methodist baptism is still valid. Baptism (performed correctly) leaves an indelible mark on the soul.

What you are seeking is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Remember, in scripture, baptism with water and the laying on of hands were often separate events.

Pray intently for the Lord to guide you to His truth. He will without fail answer your prayer! While we seek Him, He is also always seeking us. He loves us so very much, but it took me a lifetime to actually FEEL that love.

I will keep you in my prayers as well.

Hey Salcoton,

The Catholic Church does not recognize JW baptism as valid. There are only a handful that they do not recognize -- JW, Mormon, Pentacostal (oneness), and Seventh Day Adventist I think are the ones they don't.

There are several factors involved with JW baptism that bring it's validity into question, even if it was performed prior to the "organization" insertion.

At the time of my baptism (1967) the brother actually said the words, "I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit" while I was in the water and just before he dunked me. However, our friend Tom Cabeen was baptized in the 1960s and he says that the words were NOT said over him at his baptism. So JWs were not consistent in their baptisms even then.

I was baptized Catholic this past March. It was an amazing spiritual experience --- quite a lot different from being dunked in a little pool in the basement of the Kingdom Hall.

Why do most people not think?

i have just had a long conversation with a dear friend, and we came to the same conclusion most people do not really think.. he is 75 and is fizzing with ideas, got a phd at 60. in fractals( no have little idea what they are).

for instance it was and is blindingly obvious to me that the price of oil would drop, it has a little.

the reasons are simple and i am prepared to discuuss that if you want.. i have observed in relationships recently, my own included, that we ignore the what is happening, and often to our, and our familie's long term benefit.

Critical thinking is a skill that must be learned. Many people have not been taught how to reason and to evaluate situations and data.

This, in my opinion, is the MAJOR reason that the Watchtower folks discourage higher education. The teaching of critical thinking skills is a major component of post-secondary schools. The very first college class I ever took (at the ancient age of 43) made me look at my life from an entirely different perspective than I ever had before. It was not long after that a situation impelled my long and slow exit from the JWs.

The fact that I had learned to think greatly affected my reaction to the ridiculous conclusions of the elders who attempted to judge my daughter as being "bad" based on one silly teenage incident. They weren't able to bully me, I wouldn't abandon her emotionally and spiritually, and 12 years later, here I am!

WTS Will Stop Charging Interest on Loans

the org will stop charging interest on kh building fund loans effective sep 1, 2008. current loan payment amounts will remain the same so the loans can be paid off sooner.. congregations should continue to donate to the kh building fund, and publishers can donate directly to the fund by sending donations directly to the branch.

congregations are encouraged to forward surplus congregation and operating funds to the branch until the time those funds are needed by the congregation (this was actually read to the congregation...talk about full disclosure).. this is for all branches and congregations, not just the u.s..

~ Positive thoughts, vibes, prayers this morning for my job interview ~

i am going to have an interview for a chirpractor's assistant's job this morning.

i was raised in a family of chiropractors and this looks like a good fit for me.

please send out the prayers and thoughts from now through the interview at 8:30 am and through out the day in the minds of the interviewers.

Nana R, my grandfather helped get the profession legalized. He was a student of BJ Palmer. wayyyyy back in the 20's. Met my grandma there and put his brother through school. Gramma put him through school, grand daddy and her father was going to Palmer school, that's how the two met. My mom's brother is a chiropractor as well.

Wow!! My Dad graduated from Palmer School on the GI Bill. I almost feel like we're related ;-). Let us know what happens at your interview!! I prayed for you this morning on my way to work. Pax, Ruth
