I'm still angry, will this sect ever be stopped?
by restrangled inthey have ruined lives, destroyed people ..... mentally and/or emotinally...... why?
.
and if they are hurt, some can still stay in and buy into the bs even if it means throwing out their own families?

i guess they can continue b/c this world really pushes the whole "freedom of religion" thing. Something that is interesting, when I went to the UN website and searched under "Jehovah's Witnesses", a bunch of articles came up where the UN had helped in human rights efforts for JW's in other countries. I wonder sometimes, if they have been so successful in winning religious rights law suits, b/c they were an NGO of the UN for so long, and the UN MUST pay special attention to it's own...that crazy beast.
restrangled ~ i'm so sorry to hear of your family disunity, it's hard enough when there is unepxlainable reasons why a family doesn't get along, but when you can trace it all back to hatred instilled by a religion, you can't help but harbor hatred for that religion itself. Don't let it raise your blood pressure too high, or they will end up killing you. i hope you have an awesome xmas, i would bake you cookies if you were local! :) the xmas decorated frosted ones ~ you know, the kind JW's only buy AFTER xmas when they are on sale and it's safe to be seen w/them b/c clearly they are not for the holidays anymore!! :)

What was your final straw that broke your back in terms of doctrine?
by ukescott inas ex-mormon, my exposure to a different version of the first vision story which was quite different from the offical first vision was my beginning way out of mormonism.
what about you ex-jw's?
what, in terms of wt doctrine, made you realize that the wt is a fraud?.

First, it was the whole 607/1914 deal. then, i started reading about pyramidology and C.T. Russell's involvement w/that. i didn't fully believe that story until i saw pictures of the grave site. it really creeped me out that my solid beliefs, were created by a late 1800's crazy man/cult leader. then, as i started backing away and slowly became (still am) "inactive", the breaking point was realizing all the false friends i had, and how quickly they give up my friendship. out of sight out of mind is what i became/have become.

Where to start?
by nonamegiven ini was df'd about 2 months ago and decided to take this time to explore the teachings i have spent my life spewing to others.
well, it took very little time to discover it was a bunch of crap.
i have learned about the lies and inconsistant teachings and what not.

I have prayed long and hard for help from God (who ever that is) but I think I lack trust
the WT teaches that if you lack a spiritual side, it's your fault, you aren't praying enough, or studying enough or blah blah blah enough. my advice, and what i have found to be true, is stop feeling bad about lack of spirituality, and your own natural spirituality will begin to develop on a daily basis. you are going to start re-evaluating your feelings on every value you were indocrinated with. some will change, some may stay the same, but for the first time in your life you are thinking for yourself. don't rush that ~ develp your OWN spirituality, then if religion is what you still want in your life, begin exploring and have fun with it, it's educational if nothing else. don't feel bad for not belonging to one specific religion or church or bible though....

Are YOU Basically The Same Person Now As When You Were A Witness?
by minimus inthey say "the truth" changes people from nasty, wicked people to meek, honest hearted "ones".
now that you're out of "the truth", are you back to your old ways??
did "the truth" ever really change you??

i'm just finding out who i am. i no longer have a personality handed to me, as in i am no longer told how to treat people. i'm finding that i am enjoying being nice to everyone, genuinely nice. not that fake nice so we appear righteous before "worldly" people.
i think i'm a more quality person now.

baby elders
by SB ini'm curious ~ has anyone noticed how young elders are these days?
in my old congregation, 6 of our 8 elders were under the age of 30, one of them 23, unmarried.
the father being the p.o...ironically.

oh, that's hilarious. that is the ONLY time the congregation secretary ever called me for my time, is when the C.O was coming through and they want their numbers to look good. i made up my time for the entire 6 months prior to finally calling it quits! :) so, for all those impressed w/the "numbers" of hours spent in the ministry, that is a clear sign of the last days approaching, just think of how many of those hours are made up!

Worst Jw reasonings of all time
by drew sagan inwell, let's all pick out our favorite 'best of the worst'.
teaching found in the publications that just are on the total brink of absurdity.
my vote is in for this 'striking parallel' between the time peroid of jesus life and the 1914-1918 time peroid.

Would it be different if the man had a weapon and threatened to kill you if you did not submit? No, the Scriptures plainly state that Christians are under obligation to 'flee from fornication.'
i would like to see them print this in a recent magazine. i love how there's really no "retraction", or appologies when the light just isn't quite bright enough at the time they teach such dangerous doctrines. i wonder how many people read this in 1974, victims of rape, and felt GUILTY?! I learned on Law & Order SVU that you NEVER make a victim feel guilty!!!
side note, i love that show. :)

Suggestions for "The Internet" defense ... roadblock?
by gordon d inwanderer reminded me of an answer that i frequently get when confronting dubs with information obtained through the internet.
even if it's a scan of a wts publication, the typical dub seems to be well schooled in refusing to give any credibilty to anything that comes from a website other than watchtower.org.
has anyone had any luck finding more "credible" sources for info?

i've been trying to find, on the U.N website, correspondence regarding the WBTS. I have no doubt it's true, i would just like to be able to produce a document to my family if they should ever inquire as to why i left....
Thanks!
