On my way to work at 5:00 a.m. I always see a brother at a particular corner holding up a magazine...not speaking to anyone. He's there every day.

24 hour field service marathon ??
by gingerbread infield service for up to twenty-four hours non-stop.... it's a bit of a fad in our area with pioneers - the twenty somethings especially.
we've heard from other family members and a jw friend that it's a thing in their part of the country as well.. it sounds like a group decides on a day and then piles into a van or suv to 'work' the territory - 12, 18 and even 24 hours.. anyone else hearing of this?.
ginger.

Do You Think Many Engaged JW Couples Fooled Around B4 Marriage?
by minimus inwhen i was an elder, i had a few couples approach me to confess that they either played around or went all the way.. i suspect there were many more that did not admit to it, though..

Stand For Pure Worship, why are you on this forum? Do you need to count time?
Of course I fooled around before marriage, but by that time I was already into my fade and my future husband wasn't (and still isn't) a JW. No confession necessary

Bro at table set up wouldn't answer question (but still counted his time)
by ShirleyW ini asked when they would start offering gray bible and she said two weeks, then the only bro at the table saw my headphones in my hand started in by saying " i see you're plugged in, do you have a smartphone?
to which i said no, because i just had a feeling that must've been a new angle to tell folks about the new bible app.the sis said they would start offering it in two weeks the bro goes on to mention that you can download the app and you get the bible in five different languages and mentions some other stuff you can do onthe app, i said all this technology reminds when the society admonished you all to stay away from the interenet about 25 years ago .
you should've seen his face, he was smiling but was thinking "how does show know" behind that smile.

Fight or flight, and obviously he chose flight.
I can still remember that Awake magazine warning about the information super highway...the one with the dark background and lines. Now they're saying something else... hypocrites.

Who remembers the time cards we filled out?
by Decided ini just thought about them a few minutes ago.
you put how many hours you spent in service and the amount of mags.
and books you placed(sold).

Oh, I'm having flashbacks as well. The whole "turn in your field service report" thing each month.
I was in the "low-hour publisher" class... and they were imaginary hours too.

Since most JW's HATE giving talks and doing meeting parts, why does the Watchtower Society still require it?
by yadda yadda 2 ini loathed giving talks and doing meeting parts.
i dreaded all assignments.
i was intelligent enough and always did a good job, but all my jw life (born in to mid-30's) i enjoyed giving talks about as much as a visit to the dentist.. i am sure that 90% of all jw's similarly dislike it.

I also hated those dreaded assignments! After many years, I finally completed my "speech counsel slip"...only to be told I had to start it all over again!!!!!! At that point, I just stopped showing up for my talks. I was just sick and tire of the whole thing.
And besides the talks, some brother always wanted me to be part of some dumb demonstration during the meeting. I was doing parts for youths even in my twenties. They were forced to stop when I turned 25 though... oh how happy I was for that.

New JW Bible nickname
by JWOP ini had a face to face conversation with an active jw today.
i was informed that they congregations don't like the new bible being referred to as the "gray bible", so some are starting to refer to it as the silver sword.. .

I don't like being called "inactive." From now on, I will say to any JW that I can that I am "actively absent."
OTWO, I like this.

Did You Ever Wonder What Goes Thru People's Heads When They Realized You Were A Witness?
by minimus inlooking back at it, they must of thought we were really weird!.
funny story: yesterday i had to pick up meds for my mom and when they asked her date of birth, i couldn't remember!
the cvs druggist looked at me in a strange way until i mentioned, "sorry, but i was raised a jehovah's witness and i never celebrated her birthday".. she laughed, asked for my id, then whispered what her birth date was.. you gotta wonder what they must be thinking!.

I shudder to think of how I must have come across to people sometimes. There are three dubs I work with right now who have no idea of my fading status. I observe their behaviour and feel so ashamed.

Family Traditions, have you started new ones since leaving the jw's ?
by man in black inhttp://www.artofmanliness.com/2013/10/09/creating-a-positive-family-culture-the-importance-of-establishing-family-traditions/.
.
raising two boys in the jw religion, family traditions that were passed down from generation to generation were thrown away because they were attached to a holiday, birthday, or some other "forbidden" thing.. traditions associated with assembies, book studies, etc, were nice, but they never seemed quite genuine to me.. eventually the boys grew up, and learned how to make their own decisions.. but still after all these years, my wife and i still feel a certain amount of pain because of what they missed.. and now with both of them in their 20's, starting from scratch with passed down, heartfelt family traditions,,, this is a really neat experience.. the above article talks about how important traditions are for helping develop family togetherness.. how do you feel about developing traditions with your family now that the influence of the wt society is no longer hanging over your head ?.

My tradition is going wherever I want, whenever I feel like. No worries about "meeting nights" anymore.

My mom was trying to "encourage" me to start going back to meetings again. "Something's about to happen" she said... about two years ago.
