Well, in order to keep it together and not be quite rude and ask if he actually breathed while he talked, I had to get up and walk around. I do feel very sorry for him--if this is how he behaves, how on earth would anyone ever come to the "truth"? lie? I could not follow his multitude trains of thought, nothing ever got finished, and I wonder what on earth was going on inside his mind?? I can't imagine that he is very successful as a Witness or maybe this is his method extraordinaire--beat down unmercilessly on people, until they cry out "I surrender!"

Please rescue me! I just got hit with a JW Mac Truck!
by truthsearcher inoh my, i just had a visit from a jw who proceeded to, for an hour and half, try and cover every doctrine in the book, jump from scripture to scripture, half the time i was so confused about what was being said.
the other witness barely got a word in edgewise.
i quickly realized that there was going to be no discussion--it was sit and listen and try and look intelligent.

What has been happening since March with this situation? Was there any media publicity? Did the elder get in trouble? Did anyone from the board confront him? Just curious...

There is a beautiful article on the back page of the Aug.1 2002 Wt magazine entitled "A Lesson from the Stork". I have scanned it but I can't figure out how to post it here.
Here are some choice quotes:
"The Hebrew name for this large, long-legged wading bird is the feminine form of a word that means loyal one; one of loving-kindness."
"The stork's instinctive behaviour illustrates the quality of loyalty in other remarkable ways. Both male and female birds share in incubating the eggs and feeding the chicks."
"As parents, storks are exceptionally faithful...Indeed, by instinctively showing faithfulness to its lifelong mate and tender care for its young, the stork lives up to the meaning of its name--"loyal one".
"The Bible places a high value on loyalty that is motivated by love and kindness."
I would certainly feel free to use the remarkable stork as an example of how parents should remain loyal and faithful to their children, especially since we know that "The Bible places a high value on loyalty that is motivated by love and kindness."
Of course, I realize that the WT will twist their own words, and what they are really talking about is loyalty to the organization. However, the article never mentions the organization, just families. So, just tell your elders that you are obeying the magazine and taking a "lesson about loyalty from the stork."

Please feel free anyone to copy my post and send to whomever needs comfort (or a wakeup call). I have Scripture references to support our actions. I'll also respond to any Private Messages.

Thanks. I wonder what an active JW would think if I shared this story? We look on it as a huge answer from the Lord, but of course, they don't think that Jehovah hears our prayers, do they?

I have to reply to the article and the posts. It has stirred up many emotions. We are a Christian family, not JWs, who had a rebellious daughter that caused great turmoil and heartache. To protect identity, I will not go into great detail, but the situation was one that would be agonizing for anyone to deal with, Christian or not.
As opposed to the WT's approach, we were encouraged by our elders to maintain a relationship with her: "Love the sinner but not the sin." "She will always be your daughter." "She knows your stance. You have given her principles. Trust that she will one day return so don't despair". "If you want to have any input into her life, you must not cast her off." "Shower her with love. Look for ways to reach out to her. Make sure to include her as much as possible in the family circle." "Continue to trust Jehovah. He loves her even more than you and wants this situation resolved."
Those words were like a balm to a wounded soul! We knew that people were praying for us and for her. They were there to stand beside us and comfort and encourage us. I cannot imagine the additional pain that would be added to the situation by the WT approach.
We found a wonderful Christian counsellor who our daughter agreed to meet with. Her loving, biblical approach helped tremendously. We want to praise the Lord that He has been faithful, through those tear-filled moments. We have had the joy of seeing this situation resolved with great growth and healing, and we give the glory to God for this. HE IS FAITHFUL, even when we are not. She was our "prodigal daughter" but every time we talked, we let her know she could always come home. She has returned and we ran to meet her with open arms.
A religion that does not know God's grace cannot show God's grace. May any who have experienced or are in the midst of this be encouraged by our story.

has anyone seen this site of scanned WT material?

there is no comment on the scans other than to say the site is being run as an alternative to "apostate sites":.

I wasn't sure what to think at first...but I do think they are a WT believer. However, I did find some juicy tidbits to use in the future. I do not think the scan wording was changed because it is still damaging... How about this one from His Vengance, Rutherford , 1934
" It will be a happy day for the peoples of the earth when Satan and all of his agencies are destroyed...
The Scriptures show that at Armageddon Satan's army under Gog will be completely destroyed, and which will include millions of men now on the earth. The prophet then, describing that terrible battle, says that there will be so many dead that the living cannot bury them. Their bones will be bleached by the elements. The Scriptures then further show that for a 55long period of time after the battle of Armageddon is over companies of survivors will be sent through the land to clean it up and to destroy these bleached bones"
Oh happy day?

Does anyone know more about it? There is no comment on the scans other than to say the site is being run as an alternative to "apostate sites":
"The intention is to provide access to publications which would normally be found in the library at a Kingdom Hall, but which often cannot be found there today.
This is mainly for two linked reasons:
Firstly: These publications are in short supply. They are now out of print, and there is only a finite number of copies, many of which are suffering the effects of time.
Secondly: The rapid growth in the number of Kingdom Halls throughout the earth has meant that not every Hall can have a copy of every publication. Recently it has been suggested that each congregation language group have its own library, further limiting the availability of these older publications.
There is also another reason for these publications being made available in this way: Some of these books are available on the Internet through sites run by apostates, which means that the person who wishes to consult them may also be exposed to other material of an apostate nature.
It was felt that the need existed for a "safe" site for brothers and sisters who wish to see these early publications to do so in the context of a website containing no dangerous apostate ideas.
This site is maintained by one of Jehovah's Witnesses who fully supports the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.
The site is being extended as the publications are scanned and transcribed to web format. The intention is provide a library of early publications of the Watch Tower Society which can be referred to for research purposes, or purely for casual interest in Theocratic History.
It is appreciated that these documents do not reflect the current understanding of the Bible enjoyed by Jehovah's Witnesses, and for up-to-date information the reader is encouraged to visit the Official Site of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. -

I just have to put in a plug for non-JW homeschooling. We have h.s.ed for many years, and it has been a wonderful experience. However, unlike JWs we go out of the way to provide many opportunities for them with other kids out in the community (ie lessons and clubs, etc.) The one-on-one form of education (aka tutoring) provides an excellent education--2 kids of ours have gone on to grade 12 and college, both being at the top of their classes academically (because they learn how to study and also have a firm base under them) and also socially. The other two are still at home and we are enjoying going in-depth in areas of interest--it is one of the huge advantages. Give them a broad base of the important basics (i.e. the 3 rs and cultural literacy) then take extra time to investigate the areas that really excite them.
I do not know how this would be in a JW situation. I think they would isolate and also be wary of teaching too much "independent thinking". (BTW our kids are taught how to think and they have not left their faith, so what is the WT afraid of?)
There is lots and lots of support out there for homeschooling--materials and information on the how-tos, which makes it easy to learn along with the kids (things you may have missed or forgotten from your school years). I love to relearn things from an adult perspective--it makes so much more sense now, and we can tie it all together and see how subjects inter-relate, instead of the disconnectedness that occurs going from class to class with a different teacher in every subject.
If anyone is interested in more info just PM me. Hopefully my grammar and spelling is korrekt!
