If the number 144,000 is literal, and it refers to the JW "annointed class" then which ones are the 12,000 from each of the different tribes. You know, that list is long and detailed so if Jehovah thought it best to include those details then I want to know which ones belong to the tribe of Naphtali, etc. and how do they know which tribe they are representing. Do they have tribal meetings and vote on new light?

If the number is literal, then I have no problem accepting that the rest of it is literal too, maybe a large group of Jewish men who will at some point become preachers on behalf of the Lamb in the the endtimes. Rutherford certainly was all excited at one point (back in the 20's) about the restoration of Israel to their promised land. He even went on tour in Israel preaching to the Jews. How disappointed his converts must have been when a few years later he changed his mind (or Jehovah told him he had got it wrong, and the Jews were actually obliterated from God's plan. Seems like Jehovah should have conveyed something that significant to Rutherford BEFORE he went and published books/preached in Jerusalem about the Jews still being the promised people).

This is a classic case of the flip flop:

Russel taught the Jews were never to be restored.

Rutherford taught the Jews were to be restored.

i recently asked a jw to explain the discrepancies in the following scriptures between 1 corinthians 10:3-4 and 1 corinthians 10:9 in their new world translation:.

first i presented the scripture as it is rendered in another modern day translation, as it is rendered in the original greek and as it is rendered in the latin vulgate:.

1 corinthians 10:3-4 they all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink.

what do you think of ray(mond) franz?

i have seen here some people critisise him as not being a really heartfelt opponent of the wts, but my view is that he was quite honest about his expressed motives against the cult.

with his revelations he gave a lot of momentum to the ex jw movement (the apostate organisation according to the jws) and offered valuable assistance to those seeking to shake off the ideological and social dependance on the oppressive cult.

i was taking to grace (mouthy) on the phone today in canada.....what a sweetheart she truly is.. we have decided to put ourselfs out for adoption.

since i have lost family members because of being a jehovah's witness for 52 years and since many here have lost wifes, husbands, children, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, and of course friends.. we have decided to put ourselfs out for adoption...............grace told me today she would be happy to be your grandmother to all that would like to have a grandmother..........i would love to be a father to anyone who would like to have a father.........that no longer has one.. we have this to offer to all...........the most important thing a parent, grand parent or friend can offer their child, grandchild or friend........and that is, unconditional love to all.......you are all perfect.the love that real family members may have is conditional.......but true love never is.

we are here for you all.............and anyone else here on this board that would like to be a grandparent parent, father,mother, sister, brother or friend ............. please let all here know now.. as the italians say "familia"...........we are family!........we are here for adoption.

Two Christians just came to my door....knock knock

i let them in - and after they installed my new phone service [yes they were with the cable company], we had a nice discussion about our mutual faith [practiced in three distinct manners].. the installer first looked at my desk, and saw a copy of the kit [i was just listening to a mp3 audio that debunks it totally] , a copy of steve hassan's 'combatting cult mind control' [a recent gift from another poster here on jwd], a copy of reverand lingle's book 'approaching jehovah's witnesses in love', and a copy of 'church history in plain language'.

a glance at my bookselves revealed a dozen bible translations, and dozens of apostate volumes [coc, isocf,gtr, etc].

so he knew right off that i must be religious.. we had a nice conversation after they were done.

I am happy to read your story which shows that not everyone outside of the
Borg are dope-smoking fornicators or Satan worshippers.

We are a puzzlement to the local JWs, because In some ways, we live even "cleaner" lives than they do, and yet deep down they just KNOW that we are worshipping Satan and not Jehovah...

I really think we should come up with a JWD secret handshake so that faders will know who it is safe to be friendly towards! Any suggestions?

several years ago when i first started looking at tinternet i was still reticent to look at anything that may be taken as 'apostate'.

so typing in 'jehovahs witnesses' was not for me just yet.

however one little belief of theirs had always troubled me.

book: What the Bible Really Teaches - help

i have been told to study this book with a sister so that i may can be indoctrinatedadjusted according to bullshitaccurate knowledge.. i dont have this book, nor do i remember reading it, or studying it, just wanted a head's up from those of you who may have it, or know where i can read a copy of it online...any help is really appreciated.. thank you in advance!.

That's an interesting thought about Luke 1 and 2, Fred. I haven't heard it put that way before.

By the way, have you ever seen the Visual Bible DVD on the book of Acts? It is a really wonderful tool to get a good cohesive look at the early congregation. It is the NIV version read word for word, with excellent quality drama. I found it at my local library, but it is available from the International Bible Society.

I have been going through What Does the Bible Really Teach and am disappointed by the approach that is being taken. I thought it was to be a free bible study, but the Witnesses don't bother to stop and look up any of the Bible verses referred to in the book, so it is actually a book study, and there is quite a big difference between the two things.

In studying the Bible, I read whole chapters and then ponder questions based upon what I have read--what is the writer saying, how can I apply this to my life, what other passages of Scripture deal with the topic discussed?
