Sorry to disappoint you onacruse, but I don't Swahili is in my immediate future. There are at least 2 more Greek terms this year, and I don't know if I will make it through, but I am tempted to try...I have my little index cards with me now as I am typing, reviewing for the next test tomorrow. I think next year I will focus on Latin...oooh.... "don't I sound intelligent, darling?" (said with an Oxfordish sounding accent)

I think there is something quite ironic about a former Witness selling Christmas trees. It would make a good article for a magazine. Care to be interviewed by me sometime?

I may breathe deeply, but I find I have to sift through many mental files to access this stuff. It is not coming easily to my mind. Review, review, review seems to be the key!

I usually do the crunchy topping with Brown sugar, flour, butter and nuts, but I recently tried a recipe where you peel the yams (you can add onions, carrots, potatoes, squash chunks, rutabaga chunks), toss in olive oil with 12, yes 12 garlic cloves, and bake in the oven. Then sprinkle with sea salt and pepper for a delicous savory root veggie dish. It is a nice change from the sugary traditional dish.

New Idea for Christmas Decorating?
by Sassy inwell.. its only days away from when i begin all my christmas decorating... and i just found this brilliant (in my opinion) idea for decorating.... .
it can be found here: http://www.amazing-christmas-ideas.com/christmas-tree-decorating-birds-beads.html.
she uses doves which she hangs from the ceiling with garland beads glued to their beaks......and it appears as if the doves are decorating the tree... .

Reminds me of Disney's Cinderella where the birds and mice help to make her dress for the ball. I used to do something similar with birds and beads at a previous house, over the French doors to the living room. White doves and pink pearls and pink velvet bows, with blue spruce garland. It looked very nice too!

Just received the exams back last night. I'm excited to say that I managed to get perfect, plus extra points for attempting the bonus translation section.
So how does 106% sound? My daughter also gets a big thumbs up for her 103%. I think she might have actually beat me if she hadn't misunderstood some directions on the exam .
We can't get too excited by the state of things, because the grammar has officially become confusing--with the Present, Imperfect,Middle, Passive, Deponent, Future forms driving me crazy! We have a final exam next week, and I am not looking forward to trying to get all those word endings down pat.
Back to the books!

How long does the typical church service last?
by B_Deserter insitting anywhere for 2 hours is a recipe for dozing off as far as i'm concerned.
i would think the typical church service wouldn't be the 2-hour ordeal the sunday meeting is, but i don't know for sure.

I often organize the services at our church (Baptist). Here is our typical service template:
Opening Hymn 3 minutes (stand)
Welcome and Announcements 3-5 minutes (sit)
Song set: a couple of choruses or hymn and a chorus: 5 minutes (sit or stand)
Scripture Reading/Prayer for offering: 3 minutes
Offering: 3 minutes
Song set: 5 minutes (stand) Dismiss the younger children for Junior Church (aka playtime in the basement for ages 3-6)
Sermon: 30 minutes (sit)
Closing Hymn: 3 minutes (stand)
Usually it adds up to around an hour. We get lots of excellent Bible teaching, and our music is a meaningful time of worship using live musicians (not canned music ala Kingdom Hall style). There is a good balance of corporate worship and teaching.
We also have Sunday School an hour before the service for 45 minutes, but less than half the congregation show up for that. It is more interactive, no music. The teen class is beside the adults, and we often hear them having a rip roaring good ol' time in there (plus they get donuts and other treats:) I never understood why the Witnesses didn't take more time to have activities for their kids and teens.
