  HELP with baby boy names! Contest!

  we are having a boy and can't decide on names.

  we want something a little different, not in 'the top 10'.

  it also has to be english or german orgin.

  I grew up in a German area and we had some unusual names in our school including Wolfgang and Helmut. I know also knew Germans named Felix and Bernd.

  but I grew up with a foreign name that was spelled differently than pronounced and it embarrassed me greatly as a child to have to always correct people (or not even bother but just cringe). I used to start to spell it and then say, "don't bother, just call me Margaret".

  So I agree with the idea of a common easy first name--it is less stressful on the child. We forgot about that and named our son with an alternate spelling--to date, no one has ever got it right and he is 11 years old! I am sorry now that we did that to him.

  I love Hamish and Dougall--fine Scottish names but probably not easy to spell.

  Best wishes for the upcoming delivery! Remember if you breast feed for 6 months, you will have saved enough $ to buy a major appliance!

  your great-aunt brittney died tuesday morning she was found on her kitchen floor dead.

  her funeral was this morning.

  Renee: That is such a mean spirited thing for your mum to do! I understand why you are mad and sad. That is a natural reaction to being treated this way.

  However, remember that she is enslaved to a cult. Pray for strength to live a life of supernatural love and forgiveness, remembering that but for the grace of God, you too would see life through WT eyes. I am just concerned that if you cut off all contact with her, you may miss an opportunity to help her leave the cult, or plant some seeds of doubt when she is having questions...

  ABR: I am glad that your guardian angel kept you safe from the fire! I suggest you stay away from Catholic services and Christmas Eve services (the only time when most evangelicals use candles).

  Jeff: Did you attend a service today? We went as a family and the difference between it and Monday's Memorial was like day and night, light and shadow, life and death, truth and lies, worship overflowing from hearts of love versus cold unfeeling ritual.

  MY OBSERVATIONS FROM THE MEMORIAL TONIGHT (just got home)

  well, as per usual, the memorial talk bored the hell out of me, but i found it, in one way to be an improvement over last years when they had the most boring speaker on the planet there http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/111544/1.ashx this guy at least knew how to speak.

  unfortunately, he didn't have much of a script to work with.. there was the mention of adam sinning and mankind needing a redeemer etc., no mention of when the israelites left egypt though.

  that's probably the first year i've ever seen where this hasn't been mentioned.

  Zico asked about the secret Mormon handshake that I gave to the door attendant at the Memorial. My spouse asked if I was making fun of the Witnesses, but I was just having a bit of fun with the door guy, whom I had met previously. He went along with it, said, yes and did the shake with me. I hope that doesn't offend anyone.

  This was my first JW Memorial.

  I asked the door attendant if this was where I gave the secret handshake, and proceeded to give him one loosely based upon the Mormon handshake.

  then the worst music and singing I've ever heard

  Amen to that one---I was truly astounded by the lack of gusto and inability to reach the notes! Plus the total lack of musicality in the music. Who writes those hymns? They are totally unsingable.

  I spent the time in the talk turning to each Scripture .... and then turning to the ones that teach something totally different than what they were saying. I made a list of notes to ask about at my next study. I think I was the only one taking notes.

  I spent the prayer times praying for the JWs I have been talking to, asking for seeds of doubt to grow and people to be released from bondage to the Watchtower.

  A newbie in front of us tried to take the bread. The man beside violently shook his head and told her to pass it on. She hestitated. He took the plate. The couple on the other side snickered and whispered to each other "She almost took the bread, tee hee".

  I kept thinking as I looked out over the congregation--"all these people, and not one couple will commit to coming to study with us" . Our original study partner has passed us off to another couple from another congregation in another town who will commit to coming every week. Yup, I'm feelin' the love!

  The Memorial we attended on Sunday night was much more meaningful, the talk was excellent and very interesting, there was a totally different feel about focussing on the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf, all believers in Christ as Messiah partook.

  All I could think as I left the JW Memorial was "SPIRITUALLY DEAD!!"

  Went to Memorial - where was everybody?

  i haven't missed a memorial since i started attending over 50 years ago.

  tonight i was expecting the hall to be jambed as usual.

  i sat in the 5th row from the front and from where i sat, i could see 31 empty seats--there may have been more.

  Last night I observed and was an active participantat a Memorial with my brothers and sisters in Christ. (we were using Galillean time, as per the book of John). It is always a moving experience as I remember the supreme sacrifice made on my personal behalf.

  Tonight I will go as an observer but only to use it as an opportunity for further talks with my JW contacts about the organization's refusal to allow them to be disciples of Christ.

  My experience has been that JWs are confused about this issue and retreat into what the former teachings were as far as their "conscience" goes. They are afraid to do the wrong thing, so they would rather be "safe" than sorry, in their mind.
