  So what caused you to have doubts in the first place?

  i had no doubts at all about the 'truth' untill a friend of mine in the cong' began falling away.

  in trying to help him i had to ask questions and do research and that of course cracked the doors of my mind open for the first time in over thirty years.. years ago, when jwd allowed members to have signatures, i used the following quote from voltaire as mine.

  i still love it.. doubt is uncomfortable, certainty is ridiculous..

  Their was a question from readers in the 1989 Watchtower pages30-31 that stated that the bible holds out two hopes for humans. One to live in a paradise earth and the other to live in heaven. The article went on to say that Jesus was the mediator of only those with a heavenly hope.

  In effect they are saying you cannot have a relationship with God or Jesus without them the faithful slave.

  Like I just replied in another thread, I was born and raised in the "truth", so many things I never questioned, of course in 1979 I was just 12 years old, and, how much can a 12 year old understand about doctrine of such magnitude?. All my life I understood that Jesus was our mediator between us and Jehovah, and never thought anything different. All these articles just went pass by me, and I guess I never studied hard enough to become aware of these little details.

  Now it got me thinking as well, another one for the basket.

  I was raised in the truth and never questioned it. I did find some of the explanations about Daniel's prophecies such as the 2300 days somewhat arbitrary... But I accepted it all since we were in the truth....

  The same thing happened to me. This is the only thing I knew. Like the israelites of Bible times, I was born & raised in it, and that is what it was expected of me. I didn't questioned anything, but some things were hard for me to understand. But because it was coming from God's Org., and the FDS, it was something you had to accept, because they "know" better and they have been anointed by HOLY SPIRIT.

  Can I ask exactly when and where it was announced that Jesus was no longer our mediator? I have a hard time believing that.

  After that I kept thinking about a lot of other things. Such as how the Society has denied their part on influencing the masses into thinking that 1975 was the right year for Jehovah to bring in the end. In many publications, they suggested, although never directly said it, that 1975 was a marked year. I remember reading one article in the Watchtower at the end of the 1960's, I believe, where it said that if you were of school age you will NEVER be able to finish College because the end was so close. People sold their houses, took their kids out of school and after 1975 came and went, they Society said that they never said that 1975 was the year and that there were a lot of friends that just misinterpreted the signs.

  The issue that it is felt that the Society has a saying even in your most intimate decisions on sex and education, etc. Do I need to go on?

  In my case, little things. KH talks that praised all those who did almost the impossible, and made me feel very small 'cause I didn't do the same. They say Jehovah appreciates everything you do, but in talks they give extraordinary examples. Many of you have heard the Media Player some brother put on the Internet, on the experience of a sister who was in the bridge that collapsed in Mississippi a few months ago and after giving her "uplifting" experience on how Jehovah helped her through it, at the end the brother asks, "What made you be there in the first place?" to what she replied, "I canceled a service meeting with the pioneers that morning". The brother asks her: "What did that teach you", and she answered: "Never cancelled a meeting with the pioneers." Is that screwed up or what?

  And many other things I just don't get. Feeling controled all the time. I went out in service, gave my report and there they were visiting because they were concerned on how little I did that month. I don't get the service report part either. "Don't let your left hand know what your right hand does", Jesus said. And here they are, again parading a sister or a brother who are pioneers and exposing how much literature they placed in a month, and what a miraculous story they have of how the person in the last house they hesitated to go to, was praying for somebody to preach to them or else they will commit suicide.

  Just got tired of those things as you can see.

  Criticism worthy of your time

  as i read posts throughout this site, i became amazed at some of the criticism people have actually spent time creating, reading (as i did), and responding to.

  dont get me wrong, some of what i read are good issues that seem worthy (to me) of discussion, but to be honest, i find that 90% of the posts are based on ridiculous petty topics that are obviously tied to a sense of deep hatred of the wtbts.

  i can appreciate that some of the people who leave such post, and have this hatred, are taking their time to discuss such things as part of a therapeutic process to combat the fact they spent a large portion of their life dedicated to an organization they feel abandoned them at some point.

  I mean hey I dislike the org as much as the next person, but we do get pretty ridiculous on here, especially if someone makes a critique of the board.

  I agree with BurgerTime on this one. Recently, I read over a thread, and I don't remember which one now, where somebody here said that they wished that the same thing that happened in 9/11 would've happened to them. I found it, by far, pretty disgusting, and an unnecessary comment whether you have suffered within the Org. or not. There is no need for feeling that bitter, it only makes us look bad. Whatever reasons we might have for not being part of the Org. anymore, the only way we can go on with our lives is by demonstrating the contrary.

  I feel that most of our reasons are legitimate and we just found a place to let our feelings out in the open. I also agree with the person who started this thread. There is nothing better out there. All religions are the same, some worst than others. But they all have one thing in common: it is a system where it is very easy to be able to control the minds of others, and where everybody should act and think the same way. That's what makes every religion different. Each has its own way to "control" the masses. Scientology - Controls the crowds by having their own jargon, and believing that we shouldn't seek medical help. Adventists - Keep the sabbath and Adventists insist that, as a matter of discipline (not doctrine), one must not eat meats considered unclean under the Mosaic Law (many endorse total vegetarianism), and one must avoid "worldly entertainments" (card-playing, dancing, smoking, drinking, reading non-religious books, listening to non-religious music, watching non-religious television, going to the movies, etc.). SOUNDS FAMILIAR? Etc., you all get the point.

  So, I've just resorted to look for that spiritual connection, whatever that might be, because even being brought up as a JW I never found it. If I never do, then it's just not in me. If I ever decide to join the "ranks" again, it will be in my own terms and the bible's, not men.

  What is wrong with the Memorial date this year?

  the memorial is supposed to be held in nisan 14, jewish calendar.

  that day is april 19, 2008. why is the memorial being held this coming saturday march, 22?

  does anybody know?

  ...or maybe someone has one that they'd like to part with for a fee.. there is a scan that has been posted here, but i am looking for one where the source isn't obvious.. .

  i heard a talk one time, i believe it was called "500 after armageddon" that made an awful impression in me.

  instead of focusing on the joy of being in paradise made the whole congregation almost sh** on our underware.

I heard a talk one time, I believe it was called "500 after Armageddon" that made an awful impression in me. Instead of focusing on the joy of being in Paradise made the whole congregation almost sh** on our underware. I've heard some others have heard similar talks. But of course lurkers need proof. So if you ever had to give a talk of that nature, will you scan it and post it here? Sometimes I think I never heard that talk and that it was just a figment of my imagination. But, unfortunately it was all true. Do some brothers make up their own talks and give those at the Sunday meetings or are all Sunday meetings talk made up by the Society?

  We want to know. The reason I ask is because the idea was posted on another thread and it was similar to the talk I heard.

  2) Jehovah will make all survivors perfect. Perfect mind and body. Hence, the ability to come up with cleaner and more efficient sources of energy will be easy for a mere child. How much of our brains do we use now?

  I have a problem with #2. Jehovah will NOT make all survivors perfect the day after Armageddon. So definitely they will have to come up with some ways to find sources of energy.

  This story reminded me of an awful talk I heard a long time ago. In fact, it is very familiar to this story if it's fictional. The talk was entitled 500 years after Armageddon. And believe me up to this day it is hard to believe that the talk was sent from the Society. It was made to scare everybody off, instead of building the desire to be there. It essence described brothers finding their brothers dead and identifying them by their jewelery. 500 years after Armageddon a woman beating herself up because it was her fault that her son didn't survive. And I am about to have stomach aches, so I won't continue. But the truth of the matter is that either the Society has produced talks like these or the brothers that are assigned to the talk are sick and felt like changing it up a little bit, giving it their own way. It still might have affected a lot of people and that is not acceptable.
