  That entire article is a disingenuous, purposely misleading collection of lies, half truths, and paranoid images from Jaws.

  I can't believe I used to make "profound" comments on WT's like this. I can just see in many congregations the idiot who is going to research sharks for 5 hours that week for their 1 minute comment that most will tune out anyway. Yup, a SR dub will talk about sharks in the first two paragraphs, before the indoctrination sets in.

  I am going for pizza. It goes down better then this crap.

  Small apologies to Chappy. This is a weird thread that I honestly can't see how the point was relevant. But I shouldn't have said to lick a 9 volt battery. Thats mean.

  Not that some people here shouldn't have a steady diet of licking 9 volts every 4 hours or so, but I digress.

  Anyway, if the Trinity and Jehovah make sense to you Chappy, all the best for your worldview.

  i will start....i can speak conversational albanian....thanks to the foreign language field...really useful in everyday life as a cleaner....sniff...why didnt i pick mandarin?

  ..would be useful when they take over the world....but one day i will find an albanian to talk to ...that or a needle in a haystack....the emmerdalian world of jw's

  To a certain degree, this board is like a holadeck on Star Trek. We can program it to become what we want it, or better put, need it to be.

  There is no one who understands like a former JW the total head f*ck that this cult perpetrates. This board is all about you and me. There is no one right way to leave JW's. There are many wrong ways, (i.e. self destructive behavior with drugs, alcohol, irresponsible sex, etc) where lessons can be shared and learned from.

  It's not like we are ever going to be happy, like we thought. But then again, we can be REALLY happy, and honest. This board to me accomplishes these things, in no particular order

  1. Expose JW's and esp, GB actions and dogma as false. (not happy or positive, but necessary)
  2. Provide support for those who leave, esp for those who are newly out. (not always happy or positive, but necessary)
  3. Provide an outlet to express opinions and grow in knowledge of other viewpoints and lifestyles. If we can admit we didn't know something, or add others experience and viewpoints to our own, all the better.
  4. Occasionally, we like to joke about whatever.

  This isn't the Comedy Central board, but it serves a great purpose, best known only to former practicing members of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  the video below shows the president, jed bartlett, after losing his secretary tragically, who has known jed since high school.

  the entire episode centers on a crossroads as the fictional president is going through a lot of personal turmoil while losing someone he has loved and known for 40 years.

The entire episode centers on a crossroads as the fictional president is going through a lot of personal turmoil while losing someone he has loved and known for 40 years. He is also a strong Catholic, a believer in god.

  Yet, with all that has gone on, the President, at the end of one of the toughest days of his life, has a talk with god.

  Btw, you will hear the designation "feckless thug" in this clip. Allow me to define this so you won't be wondering about it.

  2. having no sense of responsibility; indifferent; lazy. thug: a cruel or vicious ruffian, robber, or murderer.   Porn is .....Mostly Irrelevant

  this is one of those things that can amaze you (well, me actually).

  you are taught a relentless fear about porn and it gets demonized heavily - but what is the real result?.

  most guys don't want a porn star for a wife and separate fantasy from reality in regard to interaction with the opposite sex.. maybe that's why religious types like witnesses demonize it so much: they are unable to distinguish fact from fantasy.. see:.

  (Rant warning in effect till the end of this post.)

  Since we are talking about sex..... (oh yeah, thats what porn is, watching two or more people having sex for what constitutes to some entertainment. Or as a nice break from reading Emma)

  There are as usual, many layers to this subject. The start of this thread suggested a dichotomy where viewing sex is either (using my words) harmful or immoral vs "not as harmful" to "not harmful at all, and morally, its relative".

  If I might suggest, this goes to a basic tenant of Judeo Christian influence and one that, when we observe the times that we live in in context, shows how far our society as progressed. (not regressed)

  Millions, tens of millions actually around the world and probably higher, have a negative view of sex that affects their mental health and quality of life. Most all religions, for whatever their reasons, tend to teach that things that are physically pleasurable must be sinful, even though it was God who supposedly created these very desires within us. These same repressed people, who have been taught this sexual repression, view anyone who actually enjoys sex, whether privately or filmed sex, as immoral and thus, in need of censure.

  I respect the fact that parents esp need to control this with their kids, not by demonizing sex, but by educating at age appropriate times what sex is, and that it isn't wrong. How many of us former JW's were told that sexual arousal as teens, that led to masturbation, was horribly sinful, thus causing so many of us very difficult guilt feelings and resulting behavioral problems into marriage and beyond?

  The point is, there is only one group who tries to control what sex is appropriate, religions. God doesn't control anything. I don't' mean to derail the thread, other then to make a point: it is people who demonize sex, though it is pleasurable. They can claim their ideas are from god or a space allien or a talking rock for all I care, all 3 are the same as far as a testable source for information on sex..

  Thus, we poor humans must rely on what we know and observe and experience about sex. In other words, we are actually allowed to individually make our own decisions, and have our own moral standards regarding sex. That includes watching porn.

  Bluecanary made an excellent point, if one learns about sex from porn, male or female, then yeah, its distorted, in the same way that if life were explained to a kid by watching the original Star Wars trilogy. It's fictional entertainment. Unfortunately, where sex is demonized and oppressed, we sexual beings (and btw, you have are a sexual beings if you have functioning genitalia that uh, gets aroused) will seek out an outlet. So if teens, or even young adults, didn't learn about sex from their parents or another responsible adult, then yeah, porn is a pretty bad substitute. Esp for men, to think of a woman only as a walking vagina and to learn that from porn is bad. So I for one do think that parents and responsible society needs to make sure that adults view porn. (I know that isn't the point, but I wanted to say that.)

  Adults who want to have sex for pleasure, and don't subscribe to distorted religious views that make you think the sexual function and resulting pleasure is offensive to god, actually ARE mentally healthier. They don't deny their sexual identity, and are more open about who they are. (hopefully)

  Sex is a form of communication, just as it is about reproduction or just plain fun. It is highly offensive to me that guilt and resulting mental health issues continue to result from the attempted demonization of sex. Porn is free speech, it should be available to consenting adults, and the other issues on the periphery of the subject of Porn (children and teens, moral relativism, mental health issues) should be discussed as legitimate separate issues.

  Porn is..... Mostly Irrelevant. (except for the 15 minutes when you are watching it...)

  Ok, rant is done. It was admittedly rambling and not well organized, but, few things tick me off more then the real issues that result when sexuality is controlled by religion and religious people at the expense of the pragmatic well being of the population in general.

  What religion would you recommend for those who want to leave the WTS?

  after i decide to leave the jehovah's witnesses one day,i will not look for a new religion.

  the damage that the wts has caused me leads me to mistrust all men and religion.. i trusted these men from the wts .

  i gave up 35 years of my life to find out that the wts is just a printing and real estate corporation disguised as a religion.

  It is my general observation (obviously not true for all) that many JW's who leave do try to find another religion instead of chilling out. But, to each their own.

  When you think of all that is contained in the phrase "recommend a religion", I for one would hardly do that, even if (gawd forbid) I did find one that I felt somewhat strongly about. It's just too personal.
