This is the title of the 18th chapter in Don Cameron's new book,"Captives of a Concept" I just got. The WTS would want us to move on, shut up, be powerless as they control its people to not listen to us. Well, 'Radio Free Europe' worked with time against the USSR (and actually USSR destroyed itself as it only drastically hurt their own people). That why I am on the internet to have a voice out there with you!.. I have successfully walked away but I will not be quiet.

Who else is tired of the Just Get Over It threads?
by sass_my_frass ini have started this thread so that every time i see a new one i can point out how old that idea is.
congratulations.
it's great that you have obviously been able to get out without being harmed in some way - really, i'm happy for you.

I have moved on, 'made it thru the rain', left 20 yrs ago, remarried a wonderful man (never a JW) ,,my children are grown & free of the WT baggage. However, to me, the WTS is a thief, still getting away with its robbing way of innocent people lives, time, hearts, money and their youth. It still makes me sick.

Help ! Two of my boys (13 and 10) want to become publisher
by Ancientofdays ini know this day would have arrived , sooner or later.. .
i'm inactive from 1 year now, and i go to the meeting just sometime on the sunday.. but my wife is in a very well standing , and the kids are following her at meeting and service field.. .
yesteray evening my wife told me that my 2 boys asked the elder to become publisher.. they are 13 and 10 age.. the elder was very polite , and ask my wife to have my opinion regarding this.. i'm going to talk the oldest boy (not taking in consideration the 10 yrs old one).. i would like not to be so drastic and not offend him, but i have to start some point to tell him some truth regarding this organization .. any suggestion ?.

Could you re-direct them into a sport now instead? Most boys these ages would honestly like more being in a sport. I think the boys would in the long run appreciate if you took them to that Saturday mornings and during the week for practices.

We are the small tip of the tip of an iceberg
by ThomasCovenant inin my area of the world i know of at least 15 members of my family and friends that have left the watchtower because they no longer believe it.
all of them are aware of this site and my viewing and posting on it.
however apart from one, who posts here as veen, none of them to my knowledge are particularly interested in coming to this site.

I am the only one that comes on this web site or some other sites, not my 4 siblings in the pic., 4 of 5 of us went to Brooklyn Bethel in the late 60's & thru the 70's. We have all left 20 years ago. That's okay, they have gone on in positive ways. Conversations about the JW world still goes on by us tho frequently, I keep them posted about the news posted here or on: freeminds.org. Back when we went out, we had some contacts with others elsewhere leaving JW world but contacts were by phone mostly (expensive then). We had an early 'apostafest' (not called that then) in the mid/late 80s, including Ray Franz at a hotel conference room here in Phoenix, AZ. with TV coverage You all are now so 'lucky' :) to have the Internet to have regular contacts with each each other. I am encouraged to see so many leaving.

When you see someone study with the JW's...
by JH inmy front neighbour is studying with an elder.. he went to his first meeting at the memorial last april.
then he went back another time a month ago.. he went to his 3nd meeting yesterday.. today i saw him and asked him if he went to the hall recently, and he told me he went yesterday.
on saturday i noticed an elders car in front of here, so i knew he was visited by an elder.. today he told me that he liked the 45 min talk, but found the watchtower study sooooo long.. i asked if he will go back next week, and he said no.. the way he talks, he is just curious and went to see once more.. i'm afraid he will eventually be a dub.. i asked him if the elder was giving him a bible study, and he said not yet, but he will soon.. i don't understand why he is accepting to be visited when he told me that he was just interested reading the bible, but didn't want to go door to door, didn't want to go to sunday afternoon meetings, and found the meetings so long.. but still, he is falling into the jw trap.

The WTS won't get much out of him since he's older, unless there's a possible will. Is there a retirement social center nearby for him?

My mom called...my niece no longer wants to be one of JWs
by shopaholic inmy mom called and so did several other folks over the past week to tell me that my neice has announced that she no longer wants to be one of jws and will not be returning to the kingdom hall.
supposedly she made this annoucement a several months ago and no one took her seriously till her mom (my ex-sister-in-law and a super pioneer of more than 20 years) just stopped attending meetings a few months ago.
anyway, since they both seemed to have stopped drinking the kool-aid, i get the conf-call from several family members.

That's wonderful for your niece. She's going to college. I think the WT Society kind of opened up for awhile about college but probably they have found many leaving the WTS so they are discouraging college very much again it seems. Each person is different and each family has its own set of dynamics. I encourage people leaving the WTS if possible to not get officially df'd/da'd and maintain family relationships if there is a value. This is not easy and very challenging. It sounds like you may have the social/diplomacy skills to do it. You go at your pace. Best wishes!

I have seen prayers read at district convention!
by oompa inyes, i like to gaze around during prayers, especially big ones.
twice now i have seen the chairman or concluding speaker finish the song, approach the speaker stand, say "let's approach god in prayer," and at the last second pull out a index card size of paper with writing on it.
he kind of cups his hand over as he lays in on top of the song book.

The prayers sounded more like another talk/sermon to the audience anyway!

What "Unwritten Rules" Did Your Congregation Have?
by minimus ini knew of a hall that allowed only white shirted speakers on the platform for sunday public talks!
when a visiting speaker did not wear the official white shirt he was either told that he couldn't give the talk or he could change shirts,as the hall kept a variety of sizes, just in case of an emergency!!!
i don't make this up.

by Hermano ini'm at the special assambly day entitled, jehovah is our potter we are the clay.
interesting day.
there was a talk in the morning session which included the news media as one of the tools that satan uses to mislead us.

Sounds like they are trying stifle/choke the JWs, no internet, no other references for deeper Bible study,,no news.. except WT mind-control info. (I read this and I start gasping for air)

Do you expect the man in the marriage to be strong.
by free2beme inmy mother-in-law had surgery recently and when ever she does go through medical issues, it brings up something i wonder about.
you see, i think the man or husband, in the relationship needs to be strong at those moments.
to be the person who people can look to for updated information, perhaps to be the pillar of strength to keep everyone calm in a rough situation and so on.

In marriage, it takes two mature happy strong people to make a good marriage,,maybe at times they may have to take turns a bit but for the most part it takes both most of the time.
