Wow! You have my respect in how you handled this. You showed such honesty & respect in a difficult balance. I so hope your parents with time will be able to sort thru this and yet maintain your relationship and with the grandkids for your parent's sake. As these older folks age most will see the organization will not be there for them the way their children and grandchildren would be. I look forward to updates. Best wishes to you and your family.

Just get over it?! No, there's a story to be told, 'our' story. Should Hitler, slavery, Waco, Jonestown, and such 'be gotten over". Never. People must know about cults so that cults don't flourish any further. How can one get over a 'crime' when the crime goes on to injure more and more unsuspecting people? We have to be a part of making people aware. Maybe our spirit is unsettled for just cause.

My son and daughter...making me proud...
by Billzfan23 inmy 9 year old son decides back in april that the memorial is going to be his last meeting at the kingdomhall.
so... he refuses to go to the meetings, and when forced to go - leaves the meeting right after the song and starts walking to my mother-in-law's house a couple of blocks away where he knows my sypathetic father-in-law (a raging catholic, not a jw) will have sympathy on him and say "nevermind, just leave him here with me when you go to the meetings from now on.
" the next week - the garbage man visits to collect the trash in front of the house - and my son had taken all of his meeting clothes, pants, suit jackets, ties, dress socks, etc... and left them all curbside for the trash man to pick up.

It's official (family-wise) I am an apostate
by RisingEagle ini was having lunch last week with my mom and she dropped the a-word on me.
my mom started off the lunch speaking about what a disappointment i was to her that my wife and i had put our little girl into a christian private school.
i posted on an earlier thread that my wife and i now have a 6 year old beautiful little girl that we're adopting.

little old me, once-upon-a-time a 'need greater', a pioneer, an elder's wife......now i'm 5 weeks pregnant with my boyfriend!
:) my dear ma and pa have been hiding their heads in the sand and hoping for the last few years that i would go to meetings again.. i certainly hope that they'll be able to be excited about their first 'grandbaby'.

I agree with Scully,,if they haven't been very supportive with you before,,I say wait to tell them,,don't let them upset you, you sound happy (I noted your smiley face),,don't let them bring you down now,,baby comes first now and your health,, I've seen it so many times,,at first extended family seem not happy but once the baby comes, every one that truly cares about you will be ecstatic! Regardless, the baby is from the Creator.

Nothing better than to give your child unconditional love and the opportunity of a free mind and them being able to create their path for their own lives, and not in the bindings of mind-control. The bell rings 'freedom' for your son and you, away from the WTS! Best wishes to you both! Four of my 5 kids have completed college, the 5th half way thru. I know your pride.

Thank you, Gordon, for inviting us into your home via YouTube! I appreciate your honesty and am glad you are moving on in a positive mode, after the WTS just only drained us of a real life. I think introducing ourselves via YouTube when we are ready is a great thing, I may try to do that one day. I am so glad the WTS cannot silence us anymore!

should prostitution be legalized?

if their profession were legalized, they might have access to retirement plans, medical insurance, regular health exams that would protect not only the girl but the client also.
courts and society have traditionally held the body as something sacred that should not be sold, but are people not selling their bodies when they make pornos or pose for pictures or make movies or any such things?

If ones truly think that prostitution should be legal and accepted, than I assume it would be okay with them if 'their' sisters or daughters volunteered for the job. Or would it have to be 'other' people's daughters or sisters!

Wow! Thank you for that reality of admitted depression and negativity of a JW elder which he includes the whole congregation having the same spirit. It is so sad that they dwell constantly on negativity. Their older people are dying off now of which none of them prepare mentally for since they constantly push the end of coming so soon. Boohoo!! They have no time to enjoy life now as the WTS keeps them only to the grind of empty and unthankful routines.
