My answer: like the question: how many dead people are there in the graveyard - ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!!
The ones who don't think their lives are ruined are self-righteous, the most destructive aspect of all.
i think that some people deserve to be excommunicated, such as pedophiles.
but what about the tens of thousands of others that have their life wrenched out from under them by being disfellowshipped?.
and what about those that have a family member that died because of not receiving a blood transfusion?

yes i know i tend to post here only when i need advice or have something to rant about .
so i'm living in the uk but leaving very shortly to go back to my home country of india and try my career luck there (what with the recession and all that).
i'll be living with my mum for a while and i am soooo not looking forward to it.
If you truly need to go back home to India, because your visa is expiring, then when you go back to India, work 2 jobs, one full time and one parttime to save up to get on your own as soon as possible. So that you don't have to live with your mom for long. Your mom isn't going to change her ways,,it's your life that is changing. With the two jobs, you would have to obviously miss meetings and then you would be just too tired to go to meetings or or if you get intimidated by your mom to go to a meeting, just fall asleep, because you will be honestly exhausted. :)
Until you can live on your own, I suggest you not to write a letter of disassociation yet. Best wishes for your future and your freedom of mind.
i just saw this today.. http://www.al.com/news/birminghamnews/metro.ssf?/base/news/124678172586800.xml&coll=2.
a couple of things stood out to me.
for one the attendance is much less than what it was back in the 80's when i attended dc's in b'ham.
three consecutive weekend conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses planned at the BJCC that are expected to draw a total of 18,000 people. Last weekend, 35 people were baptized in the pool.
So, 18,000 over 3 weekends..Last week, 35 baptized,,do you think about half could be teenagers? Most of the conventions that are reporting baptisms have numbers about like this, roughly about average of .7% of attendance. Circuit assemblies have very much less baptisms so overall doesn't look like much of an increase,,(since some say roughly there's a 1% deathrate in popluations, and then there's a percentage that get disfellowshipped and a percentage that just quit publishing or fade.)
if you read comments made regarding mj's death, there are tons of people talking about his religion.
the fact that he was a jw that disassociated himself, is giving bloggers all sorts of ammunition regarding the rotten witness religion.
jws are trying to defend themselves and their religion and outsiders are clearly seeing how effed up jws really are.. good..
A child cannot just "skip" stages, without long-term damage or baggage,,Michael's world of entertainment as a child was demanding that even an adult would have a difficult time to keep up,,he loved his music though,,but the demand was too much,,too much of simple childhood was skipped.
Then, for a "double whammy" he was raised a JW, no birthdays, no Christmas, nor holidays. His day off was at the Kingdom Hall for programs not child oriented, no reality for a child and then to go door to door with a set presentation of no child reality, suit & tie stiffness. The child is taught that he must do all that or his god will even destroy him soon at Armageddon.
A childhood denied (like a brain is a terrible thing to waste) is destructive with long-term negative effect to some degree or another.

(from a song from Michael) Childhood lyrics Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for the world that I come from
'Cause I've been looking around
In the lost and found of my heart...
No one understands me
They view it as such strange eccentricities...
'Cause I keep kidding around
Like a child, but pardon me...
People say I'm not okay
'Cause I love such elementary things...
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood
I've never known...
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like pirates in adventurous dreams,
Of conquest and kings on the throne...
Before you judge me, try hard to love me,
Look within your heart then ask,
Have you seen my Childhood?
People say I'm strange that way
'Cause I love such elementary things,
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood I've never known...
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like fantastical stories to share
The dreams I would dare, watch me fly...
Before you judge me, try hard to love me.
The painful youth I've had
Have you seen my Childhood...
if you will mail back?
i recommend it.
this is based on true story, 17 yr old jw girl in denmark.
if you will mail back? I recommend it. This is based on true story, 17 yr old JW girl in Denmark. It is in Danish but has English subtitles, so you have to 'read' the movie but it's easy.
This was the Denmark nomination of "Foreign Film" this last year for Academy Awards,,didn't make the final five but a good production I think.
If you feel comfortable to do so, I have no problem to mail it to you if you would watch it soon and send back right after. Just PM me.
hi newbie here, i have a question that is begining to bug me a little.
i am not a jw or ever will be but my partner was some years ago and quite devout about the religeon then she was df'd for commiting adultry with another man (not me) who was not a jw, she got divored from her jw husband and left behind her 2 boys and went to live with 'the other man', anyway over the years her relationship with her 2 boys began to grow again and now she see's them once every 2 weeks, i should perhaps point out that her ex is a devout jw, she has told me that she would like to at some point go back to the 'hall' and carry on her religeon, i said that i dont have a problem with that but, i wasn't keen on the idea of her walking the streets knocking on doors due to the amount of hatred that some poeple clearly have for jw's and the fact that we now seem to live in a violent world, yes i know that jw's have to do so much 'service work', she has told me that she has not visited a hall since her df so therefore has not repented her sins as it were but on sunday she said that there was an assembly in our local vicinity (it's the annual one) and she would like to go.
i found this a bit odd that someone who had been df'd would be allowed to go to the jw's event of the year so began to wonder if whilst visiting her sons she maybe did visit the hall to somehow show repent with a view to be allowed back into the faith.
How would that go for you if she would ever need a blood transfusion?, she would choose to refuse a transfusion even if it meant her death. If you ever need a blood transfusion and you are unconscious, she couldn't accept one for you or sign one for you either. Do you ever do holidays? She will have to refuse to celebrate even your birthday or even if you have any extended family gatherings around holidays, she could not participate. The JW Governing Body even have rules about what goes on in a married couples bed. The rules in this religion are extremely extensive.
