couldn't find a man in the org.....too educated
by lostyettobefound ini wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience.
i am one of the fortunate ones whose father was an elder ...note was....but defied all odds and sent me to university.
by the way i must just point out that i am in africa and i am an african.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I don't consider myself thoroughly educated (I went to secretarial school back in '85 and the elders wanted me to quick even that!), but I know when the single so-called available brothers were insulting my intelligence, and I didn't take their crap! I am grateful (for the millionth time) that I am out of that religion. I guess I had to go through the experience so my daughter will never set foot into a KH. She will definitely be educated and away from the Watchtower's clutches!

Was There A Time While U Were A Witness That You Were "Looked Down" Upon?
by minimus indid you ever sense that your own brothers and sisters looked down upon you?
-

My time with JWs was such a complicated bizzaro world that there are way too many instances of being looked down upon to recount all the times they did it, but I can tell you when it did start was when my only JW friend from another congregation got disfellowshipped and then committed suicide. Being her friend made me somehow an untouchable and most of them wouldn't talk to me (they would talk about me, but not to me directly). Also, it didn't help to be single, 19 with no family in the religion, thus I made myself available to be their perfect pick-on target. Things got worse after I started to miss meetings and one day showed up with a super short hairstyle and started to wear black and thus I became their all-time favorite pariah. Ah, the memories!

Ever gotten to the point you don't want to date then....
by 5go ini wanted to get married mainly for you know what finally after all the crap that happened in my early tweenties i gave up.
now a lady is bugging me to date her i want to but, i am so screwed up right now from all the other girls i tried to persuit, and she has kids to boot which i am basicaly afraid of.
not because they are bad mainly because of my past and the fact i am a not sure of myself as a mature adult.

I made the mistake of getting married the first time at 21 out of desperation to run away from my feelings for a JW I was involved with; got divorced at 25 and partied until I met my second husband by the time I was 30. If I could do things over again, I certainly would have listened to my heart first and given myself time to think things out and be single throughout my 20s. If you're unsure of anyone right now, it's always best to cool things off so you have time to clear your head and make the right choice for the right girl; you'll know which one will be The One and you'll be grateful you waited. Besides, you're still a kid at 27!

Hi, Core88, I left Indiana in 1988 after my time with JWs, so what you're going through brings back a lot of memories for me. Back then, I was very alone and didn't have the Internet to find out the truth about the Watchtower. In this forum, you will find a lot of support and advice from those who've been there. Take care and keep in touch!

Geico Insurance?
by skeeter1 ini got a automobile insurance quote from geico (you know, the lizard advertisement).
it's about $400 less a year than my current insurance.
i thought my current insurance was a great deal.

My husband is an Auto Damage Manager for Pennsylvania, so he's heard it all when it comes to claims from both sides. Every case is different and each state have varying laws regarding insurance as well. I do believe Geico tries to be fair, but some people will be happy with them while others will not.
We personally carry USAA, which my husband's had since he was a teenager through his father who was in the Navy, and we haven't had any problems with them.
I love the commercials, too. The caveman as well as the Gekko!
An interesting note: My husband as a supervisor in Orlando hired a JW for a claims adjuster position, and he was a good worker; no problems with him except during the hiring, the JW did want to take certain days off on behalf of his religion at which my husband told him no. He accepted it ok.

POLL: Would You Ever Consider Going Back To The Organization?
by minimus inyes, no or maybe....and why?
-
Atpeaceatlast
No, I wouldn't. Fortunately for me, I got to know the truth about "The Truth" before I was going to be baptized. I've since put in a lot of time and distance away from the Watchtower to ever consider going back; I have no regrets.

Anybody a member of AAA? Would you recommend it?
by AlmostAtheist ini'm thinking about joining the aaa auto club.
my car is getting along in years and isn't going to get replaced any time soon.
i'm imagining that my stranded-on-the-side-of-the-road moment is imminent.

I worked for AAA National in Heathrow, FL (it's one gorgeous building) from July 2003 to April 2005, resigning only when my husband got a promotion/transfer to Pennsylvania. AAA is on the list of top 100 places to work in the U.S, and I loved working for them; hated leaving it. They are always finding ways to improve their products and services. They are a top-notch company and I use their services as a member to this day.
I would say yes, go for AAA!

Wasn't 1986 the year of peace and security according to the media? Yup and JWs were waiting for the big A-day to happen.
Of course it didn't. It's 2007, the world is still here.
Same old, same old. I truly pity them.

So what will they do now.....?
by Gill in2014, a hundred years since christ's supposed invisible presence began, has come and gone.
it is now 2018.. you are now 75 years old and the world is packed with free information.
you can find out anything you want to, and infact, you have to use the internet every day just to shop and bank and a lot of the things you need to do.

To Blonde: You are so right. I was also 19 when I had a vision of sorts of the very same scenario explained earlier, and that's when I decided to leave. I just knew something was terribly wrong with "The Truth" and the feeling that this world wasn't going to end very soon wouldn't leave me alone (it's been 21 years since). I became depressed and devastated knowing my decision to leave also meant leaving behind the JW man I loved. But even so, somehow my gut told me I deserved better and to get out. There was no way I could live in the Watchtower world and I shudder at the thought of what my life would have been had I stayed.
