"green" handshakes were the norm around here in the more affluent areas/circuits. It's a pretty sweet gig when you think about it--all your expenses are taken care of and by rat-holing all the money you get given to you allows one to save at least a little for retirement or post-circuit work life when they have to join the real world with the rest of us.

My Personal Proof That Elders Are Not Appointed by Holy Spirit
by TMS inthis topic is not about men living sinfully at the time of their appointment as elders.
it is not about pedophile elders, although i've personally known three, two who were pedophiles at the time of their appointment by the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.. first of all a quick summary of what jehovah's witnesses are taught about the appointment of elders and ministerial servants:.
before the visit of the circuit overseer, the local elders meet to consider who, if any, among the local congregation they will recommend as elders or .

Thanks for relating, TMS. In my 30+ yrs of active association with the org, the thing that always struck me about the appointment of elders was how political it always seemed to be.

Should I DA myself?
by OMG! Now What? ini'm new here and am hoping to get some support and become normal again.
i'm going to tell my story below, sorry in advance for how long it is, but i've really gotta get a grip on who i am now and what i need to do.
since before my baptism and for four years, my children and i attended every meeting.

Mia,
Unless you feel like you need to, I wouldn't bother writing a DA letter. They've long since put your publisher card in the inactive file and hence they may try to pay you a visit every six months or a year, but they will be doing that more out of duty than a real sincere interest in helping reactivate you. In other words, you've probably already been 'written off' and you're not going to be the focus of their attention, so there's no need to for you to take any initiative with them by sending them a letter. Of course, that's just an opinion of a fellow fader...

Stagflation is here!
by 5go inrising prices, slowing growth hint at stagflation by paulette miniter|paulette miniter archive|published: january 3, 2008. .
like disco, stagflation died out with the 1970s.
but as oil prices approach $100 a barrel and the economy shows signs of slowing down, whispers of stagflation making a comeback are starting to be heard.

No it isn't. If you want to know what real stagflation is, you have to go back to the years during Jimmy Carter's presidency. Interest rates were in double digits and inflation was out of control. Also, umemployment was through the roof...

MLM schemes @ the hall, i.e Amway, , etc...
by avishai inanyone get sucked in?
i always thought it was ironic how often they preached against this sort of thing from the platform, then were out in the parking lot trying to sell it to you.

Trimline and Colors on Parade auto dent repair/decalling were big in the '80's and '90's in my area. In nearly all cases I'm familiar with they hired 90% or more of their staff from among the cong members, and most of them eventually went bankrupt.
Jafra is another one that has surfaced in recent years. They are similar to Avon, and usually you will find that most of their 'beauty and skincare consultants' are pioneer sisters or elderettes...

Climate Change. Yes the science is settled.
by mavie inthe science is settled.
special interests do not want you to think that it is.
"in a candid memo about political strategy for republican leaders, pollster frank luntz expressed concern that voters might punish candidates who supported more pollution, but he offered advice on the key tactic for defusing the issue: "should the public come to believe that the scientific issues are settled, their views about global warming will change accordingly.

Whether or not the globe warms at times is not really the issue here. Everyone with a brain acknowledges that as a possibility. It is whether or not human activity will make the earth uninhabitable and do irreparable damage to the earth that is the real argument.

Good points, Coffee_Black. The 'greens' that promote the whole global warming hoax are themselves nothing but a cult, in that they are not open to debating it in the arena of ideas and think that anybody that questions its legitimacy is a heretic.

Will the WTS start taking a hardline towards all the ''faders'' in the org?
by RULES & REGULATIONS in'' faders'' are a thorn on the sides of the wts.
they miss meetings, don't contribute any money, don't go out in service, and can contribute towards the ''spiritual sickness'' of the local congregations.. will there come a point where they will ask each and every ''fader'' if they wish to remain in or out of the congregation?
can they come up with scriptures to warn the congregation that you are a ''fader'' and are be marked?
-
owenfieldreams
I think they already have, if you read between the lines in some of the km and wt articles that have been written in recent times about association and meeting attendance. Also, with the move to limit access to wt study articles to active congregation members only by putting them in a separate magazine that is not distributed to the public, I think the ptb are trying to send a message to faders--"Get back to being active in the org, or we're cutting you off." Also, look for more hot rhetoric to come from the travelling men in upcoming assemblies/d.c.'s on the subject and more scare tactics. This organization, especially in the US, is bleeding active members just about everywhere and most of them are just people that would be classified as 'faders', and not ones that have been put out by df'ing.

If global warming is really as bad as the liberals suggest, then there is nothing we can do to prevent the consequences of it and we are past the point of no return, so no matter what human activity takes place the earth is doomed! Funny, though, how many of the same people in the mid '70's were predicting a " freeze" and the planet entering another "ice age".....
