reasons, not excuses -- even valid ones (like, "i was ignorant, depressed, fooled").. yours in the sense that you can still own (to) them -- even though you now know the "answer" was wrong.. this obviously applies to those who became jws -- hence mostly not born-in, although some of the latter might admit to having chosen the jw way for themselves at a certain stage of their childhood or teenage years.. this question is triggered by a previous conversation with purplesofa on another thread:.
i think most of us that came in and not born in were searching.
our hearts were pure in our search.
They seemed to produce a logical reason for why the world is a such bad place, i.e all the wars, famines, crimes, poverty etc that is "the whole world is lying in the power of the Wicked One". It seemed to make sense, the Devil was in control, i.e a bad world=a bad ruler Eureka!!! From there on i was like putty in thier hand.

This sounds like a basic fundamental oversight of the JW's, i mean wasn't the requirement of wearing a beard a mandatory part of the Law Covenant? And Jesus being under Law must have worn a beard right?

i left 6 months before i found this place........but if i had found it 15 years ago, i would have been one of those fighting tooth and nail for the watchtower bible & tract society.. i know this board has helped 100's if not thousands of people with the real truth about the organization............ in the face of logic and reason, how could it not!.

I don't think you'll find many on this board who even came here with much of a faith, most people on here are EX JW's not active JW's. As well as that the Org warns their members not to log on to what they term as 'Apostate' websites for fear of being 'led astray' as they put it. So i dont think you'll come across too many heated debates about who's right or who's wrong regarding the JW's religion on here mate.

i have not been to a meeting for some years now so i would not know if it has been said ,but have the witnesses actually been told straight out not to read the harry potter books?
i ask this because my in-laws have seen me reading them and now think i am into evil stuff because i have them .

Yes i've heard about this, because its theme is one of magic, sorcery & spirits the JW's are warned not to read/watch.
Its a book/film for kids for heavens sake, its not meant to be taken seriously is it you DUMB ASS Watchtower.

I totally agree with everything you've said mate. But what can we do? The only good thing that has come out of all of this is that George Bush and also Tony Blair are slowly loosing poularity and hence their days as World Rulers are numbered.
i am not talking about questions or inquirying about what to do with a problem.. when you post what are some of the reasons you give your thoughts on matters?.
for me, i enjoy talking to others who can understand my experience but more importantly for me, i know there are lurkers or people right on the fringes who are sick of all of it.
i try to give a biblical explanation on matters that shows the error of going beyond the things written.
Everybody on this board has got their own thoughts & opinions on matters and thats why i post mine because i feel i've got mine also to offer.Thats what i find great about this Website that everyone now has got their own mind instead of once having been assimilated by the JW teachings and have now broke free from its cold,icy grasp.

did you think it was a "show", when just about everyone showed up at the kingdom hall when he showed up that week?.
did you go out in the service that week more than usual, just to do like the others who were giving a show?.
the moment the co's week was over, the attendance always came back down to normal..
To me it seemed so false, there was people you hadn't seen for ages coming out of the woodwork just to show their faces as if to remind everyone of they're still here. There was the Elders, MS's, their wives & others sucking upto him and if you were a bible study then you were supposed to feel flattered by him taking an interest in you by coming to your house & conducting your study. The JW's say there's no Hierarchy system in the KH, but especialy after a CO visit you do see tangible evidence of this.
