JW's love "persecution" it validates them
Totally agree, by claiming persecution like this they can continue with the notion that they are the one and only true religion.
my friend is an up and coming jw recruit.
not baptized, but high-stepping in that direction.. any way... she lives a small rural town and she has to go to a neighboring town to a kh.
she recently asked her jw guru if there would be a kh built in their own town any time soon.

No, what was important was how clean and orderly the stadium was before and after the convention not human life.
This is soooo true. The WT seems obsessed with its 'clean' image it has when in the public eye like at Distict Conventions. This of course contributes to its shiny pristine exterior which it uses as (one of its many) tools for attracting a would be convert. Yes this is an Organisation that looks good on the outside but is indeed hollow on the inner.
prior to you leaving the org did you come to the conclusion that if you didnt actually take the step and leave, that you would run into serious mental difficulty.. i really feel that for 5 years proir to my finally leaving i was quite impaired mentally by the teachings and practices of the org.
it was coming to a head though when i finally announced that i was leaving.
i really felt that i was under intense mental pressure and that if i didnt get out then i may end up doing something serious.
This is particularly disgraceful because here we have an example of the congregation leaders abusing their position & power based on mis-interpreted scripture to achieve their own selfish goals for the purposes of self indulgence & control. This is completely hypocritical because the JW's are constantly criticizing other religions and their leaders for abusing their power also in a similar manner. But your situation along with many others like it (for anybody else this has happened to like you mentioned) goes to prove that they are NO better. The thing that sickens me even more is the amount of praise that these men then give themselves in the Watchtower articles. By drawing attention to their supposed qualities i.e "gifts in men' and 'Worthy of double of honour' they portray themselves as people you can confide in, trust & respect and then of course they go and behave totally contrary to this when out of public sight.
Thankyou for discussing this 'Lady Lee' it must have been truly horrible for you to have endured this for all that time and am happy for you now that you are out of it.
Respect & best wishes

Overall: try to remain positive but experience with the WT has made me skeptical & cautious.
"i went through the same thing when i started my deconversion process.
when i began to think rationally about life i was in shock.
i would ask myself, "how could i have believed the garbage for so long?
I count myself quite lucky when i see you guys on here some of which were in it for decades. I was baptised for about 6 years before i finally left. But thats still 6 years i could have spent doing much more productive, construcive & meaningful things.
my jw roommate has a one day assembly this coming sunday.
what do they usually do at one day assemblies that they couldn't just do at their regular meeting?
Well a full day meeting gives you the opportunity to have a full day of sleep rather than just 2 hours worth at the KH on a normal meeting.

Thankyou for that explanation 'Lady Lee'. But i do not see the logic in the WT's interpretation of this.
You mentioned:
This scripture is used to show a duty to perform on request
but notice what the scripture also says:
except by mutual consent
So this suggests 'due' is not rendered as an obligation upon demand, it is surely agreed upon with wholeheartedness by both parties.
So if one refuses to give the other their 'due' they are quite right to do so on the grounds of this scripture and hence is no excuse for the other party to just walk away and seek it elsewhere. Where in this scripture or the rest of the Bible indeed does it say they can do that?
So surely this is the WT misinterpreting this scripture?

You forgot the Queen dude or is she in the in-between category?
the other day, we were discussing whether satan is a real person (fallen angel) or just the personification of evil.
i was trying to see people's thoughts on this topic because many christians i know claim satan is not real.
even clergy today teach this.
why would God, who at first was completely alone, ever create anything that had the potential to be evil? Why create a universe where evil was possible?
Good point 'sir82' for this very reason his creation is flawed and since his creation is flawed does this make him imperfect also?
i was just wondering if anyone knew if there is anyway possible to find out the statistics of how many witnesses die each year from refusing blood?
i would think the society wouldn't release this kinda of information but then again i was thinking sometimes they like to brag about that kinda of stuff....."look how many people stayed faithful to the end"
thanks for any help on this!
Sorry for Hijacking your thread but i'd like to find out what the suicide rate is among JW's. I mean they're always pointing out suicide rates among people who choose their own course in life such as higher education, careers etc but keep quiet about their own shortcomings in this area. Can anybody enlighten me on this?
