The truth will set you free."
Thus proving that the JW's do not have the truth because being a JW is hardly being free.
a new driver that just started working here walked past my desk and said, "the truth will set you free.
" it gave me shivers down my back.
i know that phrase is in the bible and not just a phrase for jws but still -- they are the only ones i ever heard using it.. it just mades me uncomfortable hearing anything called "the truth"..
The truth will set you free."
Thus proving that the JW's do not have the truth because being a JW is hardly being free.
prior to you leaving the org did you come to the conclusion that if you didnt actually take the step and leave, that you would run into serious mental difficulty.. i really feel that for 5 years proir to my finally leaving i was quite impaired mentally by the teachings and practices of the org.
it was coming to a head though when i finally announced that i was leaving.
i really felt that i was under intense mental pressure and that if i didnt get out then i may end up doing something serious.
'Lady Lee' thats a very sad story and i really feel for you. But please is your below quote 100% true? Is this based on scripture? Because i find this totally unfair and unjust of the WT to impose such a thing if this is the case.
The WTS tells women that if they are not providing the "due" then it is the woman who is responsible if he has sex with someone else

i see serious problems with the leadership of the witnesses on two important levels: locally, in smaller bodies of elders with marginally qualified men carrying heavier workloads, and internationally in a lackluster and unimaginative governing body.
there are no nathan knorrs, or fred or ray franz's in this pathetic group!
first, the local elders: .
Well the last time i was there the thing i noticed about the Elders was that most of them were old, in fact one of them had recently died. There wasn't too many ambitious young men coming through the ranks either to take their places.
what has life taught you?
any subject or any issue that you want to share to help someone else!!.
you cant change people no matter how hard you try.. money is important as we need it but happiness means more than money.
1. Never take yourself too seriously.
2. Never underestimate anybody.
3. Make the most of what you've got.

....would it be of any surprise to anybody if the suck-ciety did in fact declare that matthew 24:14 has been fulfilled and they can discontinue the preaching work?
imagine the savings that would mean for them in printing each month???
wouldnt they be able to just leave a pile of study articles for the troops in each kingdoom hall instead of printing billions of magazines left to line parrot cages and garbage cans of laundromats worldwide?
This Scripture refers to the 'Good News of the Kingdom will be preached to Allthe inhabited earth' before the end is to come. So when you look at the actual worldwide progress of this preaching work, yes a lot of western & developed countries are familiar with the JW's and what they're about. But in other countries run by Dictatorships & Opprressive Governments which enforce policies of anti-freedom they (the JW's) are hardly even heard of. This is also not to mention the numerous African Countries where tribal religions are widespread and people are often scattered and hence hard to find. So therefore one can only conclude the preaching work has yet to penetrate a lot more social boundaries than has currently done so far and hence is some way off before Matt 24:14 has surely been fullfilled.

i watched a documentory on cults on the history channel last night.
what jumped out at me was that they said that cults could not exist if they didn't get people to believe in "new light" and "present truth".
the fact that they used those exact words sent a chill down my spine.. they also stated that cults are apocalyptic and believed heavily that god had chosen them to rule the new world after armegeddon.
I don't think the Dubs could ever get violent in the sense that it could be clearly recognised in the acts of beatings & physical harm against fellow humans. This would be going against all the principles of Christianity a belief structure to which they claim to adhere to. So by engaging in acts of physically violence against their fellowman (for whatever reason)they would risk loosing their seemingly peaceful & meek identity & thus be exposed as hypocrites.
The Watchtower is more clever and cunning than this, if it wants to harm people it does it in a more subtle & sinister way like 'Nathan Natos' mentioned- Shunning. This is an emotional abuse that it conducts as routine policy for disassociated & disfellowshipped members. Also the threat of Armaggeddon, this is a mental abuse it uses towards all of its members whether disassociated or not.
So we see two effective examples of the Watchtowers attempt at intimidation, bullying & control which can be deemed as a kind of violence but not of a physical type. Because of this the Watchtower achieves its objectives of subdueing & controlling its recipients through these said methods and thus would have no need (in my opinion) to ever resort to a phsically violent course of action.

i know that sometime, somewhere the gb has claimed to be "jehovah's channel of truth" and given divine knowledge/revelation directly from angels.
could someone please provide me with some quotes?.
i'm speaking with a jw right now who says they don't care if the gb has made changes/mistakes in doctrine in the past because it's "old light".
Yes the Watchtower are devious with their wording, they use the term 'New Light' to give the impression of something refreshing, appealing, a revelation perhaps, when all it is really is a dressed up way of admitting 'yes we've f**ked up but it doesn't matter does it?'. I ask this though : if this is supposed to be Gods spirit directed organisation, why has it made so many mistakes in doctrine (old/new light) like this? To me this confirms either of two things:
1. The Holy Spirit is imperfect.
2. The Holy spirit isn't directing this JW Organisation at all.
Of course there is the possibility that the Holy Spirit doesn't exist at all but in this case for the sake of the question pondered i'm advocating its existence.
i had no idea what to expect!...................as in the case of most jws.
since sex is strickly forbidden before marriage.
at the time (1970's) kissing was even frowned at too.
Going to college and experimenting is part of growing up for most 20 yr olds
Of course it is, its a normal part of growing up to discover & learn things about the opposite sex and yourself even. Rather that suppress your natural feelings & desires up into adulthood and when you meet your soulmate after much waiting & searching and then your wedding night and then................. oh dear
lovelylils post made me think.... dubs pretty much rule that particular sector.
my mother was more proud of me working for the p.o.
cleaning toilets than if i had gone on to be a doctor.
No luckily i didn't end up in a mundane job like as such (no disrepect to people who are employed as janitors). I nearly did because when i was 18 i wanted to go to Uni and one of the Elders in the KH tried to put me off by threatening me with the 'Big A' and i nearly listened to him but i was strong enough to make up my own mind in the end. Thankfully today i enjoy a rewarding & satisfying career because of my Uni education as a 'Design Engineer' in the Oil & Gas Industry. Yes because i made my own choice and did not let one of their highly regarded, trusted & honoured members of the Org in such a lofty position of office as an ELDER discourage me.
PHEW!!!!
this is the situation with my congregation and i wonder if it is the same with yours.. as many of you know, the watchtower is not known for organising social gatherings of any kind for relaxation or enjoyment.. many of us only come into contact with witnesses while going to meetings and going out on field service.. as soon as you leave the hall, the congregation ceases to exist, in my mind anyway.. when you go back to the hall, the congregation exists, but only for the time you are there.. think about it - you spend 2 hours sitting and perhaps 10 minutes talking during each meeting.
if you have no friends in the hall that you see on a regular basis, then you feel like you're on your own until the next meeting.. .
my point is this: for those who still go but are not invited out anywhere, particularly if they are fading, do you feel that the congregation only exists in the kingdom hall?
Yes i know exactly what you mean. I used to go to meetings and have a little association afterwards then go home to my 4 walls & solitude. It makes it even worse when you go to work the next day and have to resist worldly associations & conversations with workmates which decreases your social outlet even more. So week after week of this JW imposed monotonous routine and yes it end up depressing you, and just to make it even worse, some up his own ass, over spiritual, self righteous brother will quote Prov 18:1 ;'One isolating himself will seek his own selfish longing' thus suggesting that you are doing it to yourself!
