The fact the man blames the borg for the rift with his daughter must make for a good witness.

MY B-I-L IS IN THE HOSPITAL
by Mary inhere's another update on my brother in law:.
my sister and b-i-l went to the cancer center in toronto earlier this week to see about getting the stemcell transplant for his disease.
it was actually an encouraging visit as the oncologist there said that they did not feel his condition had progressed into the acute myloid leukemia yet and that he had longer---up to 2 years---than what his local oncologist had said.

Mary, I'm very sorry for your brother-in-law's illness. I'll be praying for you and your family. You are a good sister. Continue supporting your sister and brother-in-law through this illness.

I did not see the drama but it reminds me of an experience. A sister and her then boyfriend planned to get baptized at the same assembly. She says at first she did not see him with the group but he showed up in time for baptism. They were married soon after baptism but he was disfellowshipped several years later. She feels he was baptized to please her and his mom.

Spike, what is (or who is) the only hope of everlasting life?
Do you believe in the bible? Jesus says he is the truth, the way and the life. There is no other way to the Father except through him. The WTS tries to take the place of Jesus. You do not have to be a part of the organization to have everlasting life.

My SIL might be 'fishin'....?
by AK - Jeff inmy wife 'faded' during the same time i da'd myself.
we are absolutely both on the same page.. it is interesting [and on another level disturbing] that 'status' plays so heavily in the minds of jw's and their relationships.
as many others have related, my wife sometimes is engaged in conversations with jw's she meets in public, while all those same jw's will totally 'shun' me - sometimes in the same moment.

JWs fish all of the time. They live according to a black and white viewpoint. The WTS equals Jehovah. It is about loyalty to the organization. The organization does not like inactive JWs, because they cannot control them.

I faded over 2 years ago. and was not very active between 2003 and 2005. I had an interesting conversation with a sister from my old hall while we were shopping in a store.
Sister: I haven't seen you in years. Please visit our hall soon.
Child: I miss you too, but we haven't been to a meeting in a while.
Sister: Oh, please come back to Jehovah. Don't leave the God that loves you.
Child: I definitely have not left God.
Sister:Come back to Jehovah. We learned at the districtict convention the end is HERE, not just near anymore. It is HERE.

in principle, i am against banning cults from college campuses unless they expressly violate rules of conduct that every student organization is expected to follow.

A college education helps you to learn how to think critically, but it is not enough. I encountered JWs while a college sophmore. I wish I'd learned about mind control, propaganda and cults while in high school. I always thought of cults as Jim Jones' organization or David Koresh and his people. Now I recognize mind control nd propaganda in different religions, government and social organizations.
My daughter wants to join a sorority and my father ( non JW, ex Mason) and I are trying to dissuade her. He's warned her of the danger of trying to fit into a group and the danger of being a follower.

College is a great idea. Students take the same basic courses for the first year. He will meet many new and interesting people and grow emotionally also. My 23 year old daughter thanks me for persuading her to attend college out of state.
Counseling for depression sounds like a great idea. Maybe you ask him to read Crisis of Conscience and/or encourage him to investigate this board and freeminds.
