bah. finally caught up on the source of this thread.
i had been avoiding the 'aguest language' thread like the plague.
for botr, i'm not sure of your history of online forums, if i had to guess, i would hazard that you have limited experience with non-professional discussion forums.
while being ganged up on is pretty commonplace if you speak your mind, the charge of being racially motivated i don't think is legitimate. judging from your posts, you are very logical and analytical. in looking for reason for the constant friction you may have found a common bond (race, gender...) and drew a conclusion.
i do have a theory, but i'd like to know if i'm on track with my assumptions so far.

i used to moderate a large gaming community. we had a large list of unacceptable words to censor (even a reference to a welsh dictionary of vulgar words)
one user was continuing to use the n-word in a derogatory fashion so i would censor it out. the funniest part was he got so mad about it. he claimed to be black and as such had the right to use the word however he saw fit. i calmly informed him that the terms of service he agreed to upon joining the site enforced a language restriction on all members, not just certain races.
to this day i remember his reply vividly " you f'ing racist cracker!!!" the oxymoron of using a racial slur in calling someone else racist tickled my funnybone immensely. incidently swearing in a pm to a mod was enforced by a 24 hr ban. when you visit the site all you could see was a link to contest the banning. this went to employees of the company that hosted the forums.
the unban request he sent to them threatened to track down their wife and kids and rape them. he was permanently banned and officials contacted. some people have anger issues.
humorous story aside, claiming someone used racially charged words, then telling them they'd be better off joining the klan is an equally enjoyable oxymoron.

Hmmm.
In partial review, why does something have to be racist?
If something is perceived as being racially charged, an accusation made and the person denies it was written with a racial intent why isn't that good enough?
Isn't someone saying it was wasn't written to be racially charged good enough? Once someone is labeled a racist, are they then instantly condemned? Based on BOTR's post of her life work, I could hardly say it's the profile of a racist person.
The internet is a funny place, people from many different cultures, races, socio-political standing all given equal right to voice their opinions. Different people are going to have a different threshold for what offends them.
Personally, I take someone at their word, if they say it wasn't intended to be written with a racial intent, I am going to yeild to them since they know what they were thinking when they wrote it. All I can comment on is how I perceived something and hope that they have an open enough mind to consider my viewpoint.

it is okay to treat each day as if it were your last if it makes you more grateful, humble and kind.. but, if it becomes your excuse for neglecting your life, your sense of charity, your education and your humanity---then, shut the hell up about end times and make a new beginning.. start with here and now....today....improving this world any way you can.
stop thinking of everybody else as some kind of "enemy" that deserves to die if they don't read your magazine.. the sooner you comprehend that your truth is just another opinion the better off you'll be.. oh, and try loving people who don't think the same way you do.. start with those brothers and sisters you've been turning your back on.

Witnesses have gotten soft and spongy.
by Paralipomenon inthinking about witnesses in the past, when the witness work was banned, they went underground, continuing to meet and deliver tracts under cover of night.. all this due to their reasoning that they will obey cesar's law only when it doesn't conflict with god's commandments, such as "preach to all people".
now we see the watchtower telling it's membership to respect "no trespassing" or "no solicitating" messages, as well as condo bylaws that prohibit door to door visits.. watching them bend more and more to comply with cesar's law to give up preaching so that they don't get fines.
they've become more concerned with protecting their legal interests and money stockpile that the witness work is now more of a token activity to keep people busy.. one thing i don't know is, have they lightened up on phone witnesses with the introduction of the national do not call list?.

I live in a secured condo area as well, I found out that the witnesses used to go door to door there, and when challenged they claimed they were down visiting us and just wanted to drop in on a few of our neighbours.
I was livid, I hadn't been to a meeting in over half a year, but I showed up and blasted them for doing that.
