i had a random thought this morning about clapping.
growing up in the wt culture i learned the proper protocol for clapping.
before the assembly speaker gave his talk, but not after.
When I was in my late teens it used to bug me that the applause was so conditioned.
So for my next #4 talk I did an experiment. At the end of the talk I started talking a bit louder and more impassioned.
I forget the exact question I ended my talk with, but for an example "Brothers... Should we not show the same faith that Elijah had?"
Then walked off the stage.
Three people clapped.
I could not contain the grin when that happened.
i was sitting at the computer reading posts at jw.net when the spousal unit told me she got me something special.. .
"you're really going to like these cookies.
" then she put the plate in front of me.. .
Eat one, then say you're full and can't eat another.
Then without saying anything reach out and eat a second one.
If she calls you on being full you can say "New light on my appetite!"
there's a study article "make sure of the more important things", and in no uncertain terms the article makes clear that "jehovah's organization" is the most important thing.
the term "organization" or "jehovah's organization" is used a whopping 24 times in the article, including a subheading titled: "follow the example of jehovah's organization".
i thought organizations were entities, but that sort of subheading makes it seem like the organization is one giant person whose example we can follow.
The angels on the right side seem to be between the Governing Body and the Branch managers.
and it was a scam.

i hung up on the guy and googled "microsoft called me at home" to find that this has been going on in the uk and australia for years.
I do think they have a "do not call" list for people that waste their time.
I spent 10 minutes trying to get one of them to help me find my "windows key" on my Mac.
Haven't got a call back since then.

well i say the same condition for life evolving are relatively repeated over and over again in perhpas billions of solar systems with different combinations of chemical reactions producing all kind of self replicating molecules not just carbon based or dna based.
many stars having a much earlier formation and intelligent life much more before our earth was formed billions of years ago.. .
When you consider the timeline of human civilization contrasted against the age of some of the stellar bodies, we don't even register as a blip.
This is a facinating mind exercise.
An entire civilization could have formed, evolved, became space faring and eventually acheive higher a higher state of mind before our sun even formed.
I enjoy the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for its view on the universe. A place where everything has been discovered and mastered that the majority of life is bored. Humanity has been discovered but are merely classified as "Mostly Harmless", not worthy of any attention.
Given a long enough timeline, if a species attained true immortality and mastery over space, matter and time I can see them envying creatures that have the ability to die. Living forever never appealed to me, at some point it would eventually become a prison.

i remember hearing rumblings of a few that had gone "apostate" and feeling absolute dread of the dark world they had stepped into.
i would re-double my studying efforts.
to me, "apostates" had gone over into the "dark side".
I felt bad for them. We had the truth and they turned against it.
At our quickbuild a van full of apostates showed up to protest. (Sid Lively for any Atlantic Canada peoples)
I was doing refreshments and was going to bring them some lemonade. I figured that would be what Jesus would do.
On the way down, an elder was walking up and proud of what I was doing I told him. The elder grabbed the tray from me and made me follow him back. He couldn't really fault my logic, but told me that they hoped that they would tire out and leave early, so not bother.
I felt bad getting turned away. It felt like the right thing to do. It was just another chip away in my faith that it was the one true religion.
are humans really getting dumber (may you all have peace)?
there have many positions on this for both sides.
saw an announcement on the news this morning and was intrigued: could it be true?
I agree with other researchers in that the intelligence genes being lost are more focused on intelligence related to hunting and gathering. Our intellectual requirements for survival are changing. When I go outside, I don't need to worry about being attacked by a wild animal. I am more focused on timing, schedules awareness of other drivers or changes in the weather. At an office I am not focused on motor function of slowing my brain down to the point that I can transcribe my thoughts via a pen and paper, rather I have picked up typing to allow my thought process to carry on faster.
I think our brains are becoming more efficient. This study didn't even address the Flynn Effect which seems to conclude that as a species, our average IQ is growing at an amazing rate.
In all, intelligence is measured by different people in different ways. It was an amusing article.
