1.5% is a human term. We have example of "Time, Times and half a time".
That would make:
1 time = 1.5
times = 3
1/2 time = .75
This comes out to an 5.25% growth a year, but remember that a thousand years to Jehovah is but a day.
That would put the "divine growth" at 5250%!!!
Surely, a rocking of the nations worthy of our God.

Jehovah's Rocking the Nations?
by 5thGeneration inhow long can the society keep insisting that the preaching work is so successful when there is virtually zero (alright 1.5%) growth?.
interestingly, the society has excluded the percent gain/loss column online.

DOES YOUR HUSBAND WATCH TOO MUCH TV?
by juni ini mean almost all the time?
a lot of all day tv watching?.
how do you feel about it?.

Paralipomenon
I watch very little TV now. We have a PVR set to record all our favorite shows so when I have time I'll sit down, blink through the commercials and watch what I find interesting.
Currently on Para's watch list:
The Unit
Lost
Robot Chicken
The Venture Bros.
That's about it. My wife loves just about every drama show out there and spends alot of time watching them. -

This board is not for me.
by Wafe inwhen i came to this board, i thought that it was for encouragement amoung people who had been treated badly by the wtbts, i did not understand that people were going to come here and bash god, his son and the bible.
i could understand some embitterment over religion but some of you people are down right insulting.
not to mention the fact that i have tried to contact others on the board and have had my messages ignored.. .

Parallels between Jonestown and WT org?
by skeptic1914 inhow many saw the recent "jonestown-paradise lost" on the history channel?
i realize the suicide/murder of over 900 in jonestown, guyana on novemebr 18, 1978 may be old news but i've always been interested in how cult leaders hold power over their believers.
i've been reluctant to classify jw as a cult but some obvious parallels struck me:.

The organization is too large to pull something like this off.
Yes they are using mind control techniques, yes they use pressure, but the average witness does the least amount possible to get by. If they rolled out guns to up the ante in "spirtual warfare" they'd get turned in almost instantly. Same deal with "magical koolaid".
So yes, I can see that the WTS is a cult, but they aren't a doomsday cult in their current form. -

Your Opinion Wanted-What should really be done to child molesters?
by avidbiblereader ini have not tried to hide my past as a victim of this, but this is always an area that i have to fight my personally feelings as to what should be done to child molesters.
they ruin lives, scar an individual for a lifetime!.
should they be incarcerated for life, castrated, turned over to the family member(s), public humiliation like a branding everywhere they go, tortured and or death penality?.

Really, really tough call. I'm not up for brutality for any person. If they are to be put to death, then that is their fate. Why should we let ourselves be turned into monsters for the sole purpose of killing a monster.
They are sick, sick people but on the other side not all of them are guilty. I have heard enough cases of parents in custody disputes training their children to claim abuse that instant brutal death doesn't sit well with me. Naturally this is much rarer than the real offense, but our legal system is seriously flawed, especially family court.
I think they should be sent to prison for a minimum term without any possibility of parole. In this time they need to seek counciling and only when they are making progress in council can the possibility of parole be introduced. No early parole, but if they aren't working on getting better, they should never be let out.
If somebody can be proved 100% guilty and is deemed likely to reoffend then I support a swift death penalty. -

Would you die for what you believe?
by avidbiblereader inwith many strong feelings or beliefs either way for christianity, atheism, jw would you be willing to die for your beliefs, or are they just feelings that never come from the heart?
if faced with death for your beliefs, would you?.

I just can't think of circumstances that my beliefs would be put under threat of death.
Are there things I would rather die than do? Yup. Religion just doesn't rank on the list. -

You were looking for a board that offered support for those that left the Witnesses and found this one. On the web I have found no better board of people that understand the issues of being a witness and know exactly how to handle the issues that arise.
Many people decide to stop posting and most you will never notice because well... they stop posting. You had to call attention to the fact that you were leaving and expressly insult everyone here for not catering to you.
Even then you have 3 pages of people begging you not to go and sending you PM's offering advice. Pretty good for a board of people that are "no better than witnesses". If you ask me, you are still in the JW mindset of "You don't have the right to challenge my beliefs".
This is the real world. People have opinions. If you want a life of living is a bubble where everyone thinks the same as you and nobody challenges your beliefs, that's cult behavior and I'd agree, a site dedicated to cult deprogramming like this one won't be to your liking. -

Did anyone get the old "counterfeit money" illustration?
by themonster123 ina couple of my old witness girlfriends came over last night (note-i only recently left the org.
like 2 months ago, so people are still trying to get me to come back and "reason" with me)...and they used that stupid "counterfeit money" illustration.
i swear, every time i tell people i don't think it's the truth, they put that old illustration on me!
