Its says in many charity commission bits that jw congregation have submitted that they provide care and counselling.Oh please. These morons don't know the meaning of "care". As far as "counselling" goes, ya, they provide lots of "council" for the following infractions:
- Missing meetings
- Getting less than 10 hours of Service in each month if you're trying to be an MS or elder
- Being 18 years old and not baptized
- Not including one of the elders' wives in a get-together
- Questioning any of their insane doctrines (this one gets you a lot of 'intense counselling')
- Going to university
- Playing sports after school
- Growing a beard (apparently this is okay if you're a woman)
- Not wearing nylons even when it's a hundred degrees outside
- Kissing someone who you're not legally married to
- Going to the police and telling them you were sexually molested by a fellow 'Christian'
- Complaining about having to study the Revelation book yet again
- Buying a two-door car
- Displaying your depression in front of the visiting CO
- Accepting Shift work
- Not kissing the CO's or DO's ass
- Showing too much grief when a family member dies
- Doing anything with a family member who's DF'd
- Contemplating leaving your husband who's beating you and the kids
- Openly ask "where's Armageddon?"
The elders are not trained professionals and should not be counselling anyone about anything. The only advice they seem to be able to give is: Pray more, go out in service more, keep your mouth shut and your doubts to yourself. As for 'care', well, the only time they do that is when there's a natural disaster where they figure they can drum up some business by showing everyone how 'caring' they are.
I don't think it could be summed up any better than this.

she said "i am a jehovah's witness and we are honest people, that's why i am returning this to you.
" when i told her that i would return his wallet also and i am the antithesis of a jehovah's witness, and that i was disgusted that she would give them credit for her own decent nature, she just carried on about how he would be more likely to listen next time they knocked at his door... i found it repulsive that an act of nothing more than decent behaviour (where one treats another as they would like to be treated) was made out to be something exceptional... and that my mother used the occasion to laud the wtbts... good grief!!!!!!!!!

Yeah...actually. I was with another sister out in service one time when we noticed the car turning onto the highway in front of us had a purse on top that fell off onto the road when the car took its turn. We stopped and grabbed the purse (this happened in our territory) and used the address info inside to return the purse and give said JW spiel. Even turned down a $20.00 reward/ "donation," saying, "Next time, just listen to JW's when they come to your door.
I look at that now...and though I still think she shouldn't have to 'pay' twenty dollars to get her purse back intact...I do agree with what you're saying here that that was decency on my own part and on the part of many NON-JW's as well that allowed the purse to be brought back to her. The WTS didn't deserve 'credit' for that. It wasn't them who taught me honesty and compassion. (And, of course, I think the WTS is a crock with its teachings now, so...of course, I regret pointing her attention to them, whether she did anything with it later or not).
well folks, i started writing a big post and then the keyboard acted up on me, so i lost everything i was saying.
first of all amanda was right, this isnt anything i can just walk away from, it is'nt something that i can just put behind me and move on.
this involves my sexuality and my childhood experience growing up in the jw cult.

tonite was one of those nights.
the stress of the last month or so just finally got to me.
i had a trying day at work today.
Noooo, Honey!! You're NOT being overly sensitive...you're dealing with a situation that would be sensitive for anyone!!! (Sorry about your dad, too....my dad died one year ago, two days days ago, so I know your pain.) You're the only who can say how much or what pain you can or should handle in terms of disappointment or hurt or frustration in relation to your marriage.
What the WTS neglects to mention is that, that whole chapter surrounding the "Jehovah hates a divorcing" scripture is all about his hating the attitudes of violent men toward their wives. Read the chapter for yourself. Decide where you're really at with your feelings on your situation, without WTS agenda beclouding things. (Isn't if Malachai Ch. 2, or something?)
