Dear Vinny
I am neither 'atheist' nor a 'believer' and, as there is not conclusive proof of either will remain that way.
However I do understand some fundamental differences, the first being that there is a huge difference between 'belief' and 'knowledge' or 'fact'.
Belief in a creator, requires just that belief; it requires faith. Why? Because we have no proof that a creator exists. If I tell you Elvis is alive you can only know that if you have conclusive DNA related proof, otherwise you can choose to have faith that he is, or not.
Evolution is scientifically proven and is still occuring today. In our own lifetime we have proof of evolution, we have fossil records detailing the now extinct ancestors of living creatures, we see knew varieties of plants and animals develop, we can see pests and germs that win the evolutionary race to develop resistance to pesticides and antiobiotics that previously would have killed them off.
The flaw in all the arguments raised so far is this, it requires nothing more than faith or a belief to accept a creator who has always been there, BUT, it also requires nothing more than faith or a belief to accept a universe that has always been here that contained the right ingredients to start the process of life at some 'big bang' point in history.
When you actually research the history and the very origin of the gods people serve today it opens your eyes to what you are inheriting, the fact that you may now belong to a monotheistic religion does not guarantee that it does not have its roots in polytheism, or that the very God you choose to believe in and defend ardently was one of many served by your forefathers.
It is all food for thought and an individuals choice, but as repeated to you often throughout this thread you have to consider the depiction you personally are giving of so called christians.

Needproof................could I suggest a few lines of your complete regret on the front page of The Leicester Mercury might suffice...........
Chill honey...............none of us are perfect..............you just found out your not either
We have and do, all do things which later we regret and like one of the earlier posters already said maybe it was just deeper frustration surfacing.
keep smiling

Dear Perry
You know nothing of me and yet you deem yourself able to judge that I am not good and am not moral. I wish now to have an open discussion with you putting aside your judgement of me......................and this comes from a girl who would move snails off the path to avoid their destruction by a human foot.
The problem I have with your views is that there is something unprincipled about asking people to adopt God/religion because it helps them to behave well and not because it is true. There is a distinction between sin and immorality. Sin is essentially a religious idea or in other words disobedience to God, it works on the basis of compliance rather than consent, a blind obedience rather than co-operating with an end that is understood and volunatirly accepted. Sin is not only committing what is forbidden by God, but refusing to what is commanded by God. For some reasoning people the problem lies is that history has shown that many of the claims made on the behalf of God have subsequently been rejected for moral reasons.
Moral reasoning is based on observed consequences, not on beliefs, superstitions or preferences. A wrong act is one that manifestly harms others or their interests, violates their rights or causes injustices. We do not require belief in God to recognise that it is not right to harm others. For some saying that an act is wrong because it is forbidden by God, is not enough unless we can also justify it on moral grounds..........for example some may say that God forbids masturbation you are having a religious discourse not one that is based on morals. For it to be a moral problem it needs to be proven that it is harmful.
The fact is that none are perfect. We could debate endlessly about how this design fault originated. The facts also are that there is neither CONCLUSIVE proof of evolution or the existence of God. We are therefore in the position where we have to choose how we live our lives. For you to say that someone is neither good nor moral based on your own choice of belief is judgenmental. You accuse me of judging others (whilst having no knowledge of me) and yet I strive not to judge others.................you accuse me of being a liar, or of having told lies and yet I strive to be completely honest with people..................you accuse me of stealing and yet I am the first person to point out to a cashier if they have undercharged me, so as to avoid trouble they may meet with their employer.................do I do these things as an act of obedience to a God....................the simple answer to that is, No.
I am not required to justify my actions to you on behalf of God....................if he exists he knows me and he knows my heart...........he knows my motivation...............and ultimately if he is exists he may judge me.
Do you think he requires you to judge others? Do you think your way of dealing with others draws them to your God or alienates them from him? Nothing you have said during these pages has given me any reason to be associated with the system of beliefs you follow and the God you serve. And yet if there was proof of a God who is loving and cares for humankind I would want to serve him. Your first thread here spoke of how you came to realise how true love acts, can you summarize to me how exactly 'true love' acts?

Dear Vinny...............I am genuinely interested and seek explanation from you for this so please do not launch into a tirade of pointless insults and derogatory comments.............if you expect people to believe in a God based on creation and all we see around us requiring a creator please can you clarify to me why God did not require a creator and where he came from.
Thank you

Just for the record..............
Prove that God is awesome..........................explain why he stands by and lets kids get raped, molested, killed, starve to death, die of horrendous diseases whilst their parents sit beside them helpless and weeping. Explain why he allows so much confusion about his existence, so many variations on enlightment, so many devout people all believing and hoping in different things. Explain to me which God you are actually serving.................and then check out the actual source of that God. Explain to me how so many atrocities have been allowed in the name of God. I could ramble on like this all night............and come up with a thousand questions for you to answer and hopefully encourage you to think.
I wish not to discourage your faith or your belief.....................that is something personal to you and your choice.
But what I find incredible is that you judge others..........you think that without God in their lives they are incapable of living good and moral lives and not only that, they are judging everyone else for those very same 'sins' they commit. My comment to you was not intended as an insult but as an observation.................you are judging people who do not choose to believe in God or have him in their lives.
And your answer to me is 'Get a life'............your flavour of christianity to me is repugnant and all it encourages me to do is avoid christians!
