here in the uk we're paying over a 1 a litre for regular unleaded fuel, that's about $9 per gallon for my american friends.
now i'm as aware as anyone that the bulk of my fuel pound goes to the government in duty (or fuel tax) but let's just look at the bottom line cost to you and i as motorists - 1/litre.. just getting the the damn stuff out of the ground is dangerous and expensive, especially at offshore rigs.
then you have to transport it, refine it and transport it again.
The way some of you talk you would think............
That here in the UK we have never seen a artic lorry (our Motorways are full of them),.......... that we all shop at a little shop 5 doors down from our homes (my nearest supermarket is driving distance not walking and most of us have got rid of the pony and cart),.............. we havent been involved in the war in Iraq and hence our taxes have not been spent on funding that war (errrr......oh yes we have whether we agreed with it or not), ....................that our truck drivers are not pissed at the huge increases in fuel prices and the threat of losing business to haulage companies from the rest of Europe whose fuel prices are cheaper (only last week hundreds of lorry drivers demonstrated in Central London against fuel taxation)............that the cost of living in the Uk is dirt cheap (in some surveys we have the second highest cost of living in the world according to some surveys, NY ranked 15th in the same survey)...........oh and that the UK is only about 5 miles by 5miles big (I just have to laugh if you think we can all walk to where we need to be or use a bike)
I love the Uk, it is a country which has a huge amount going for it in many ways..........but like the USA it is a country facing huge economic problems and many are facing these on a day to day basis.
this rare letter gives us a good insight into the 'religious' views of einstein, oft quoted by mainstream religionists in the hope that they could glean from him some allusion to his belief in a conventional 'god'.. why his views on god or even the rear end of marilyn monroe would be of much interest has always eluded me, but it is just as well that we all know that einstein did not believe in any god, at least not in the conventional sense, so that defenders of the bible and a god free of sociopathy are not tempted to haul his einsteined majesty before the court of debate again.. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/articlenews/story/ctvnews/20080513/einstein_letter_080513/20080513?hub=scitech.

Either you really are very, very stupid or you like to attempt to wind people up................which ever it fails magnificently.
How can you possibly quote part of what HS says and ignore the rest of his statement, and expect that any of us who can read, to take what you say with any seriousness...........is this is a trait left over from your jw experience.
HS stated that Einstein did not believe in ANY God, in the conventional sense............or for the more simple..........he did not believe in the Gods of organised religion..........possibly with a name and some type of man made reference book. I think if HS had expanded on this statement he was acknowledging that Einstein did believe in a greater being but not in the common ordinary sense that many do. Einstein could not make the God of religious books fit!
In HS's use of the word 'conventional' he is actually reiterating a comment made in the article by John Brook, the professor of Science and Religion at Oxford University. In HS opening dialogue he actually conveys the same sentiment the article in question does. You would have to be a 'blind man' to miss this.

many theists believe that atheists have no morality at all.
they argue that because atheists dont believe in the laws, limitations and boundaries that god has set up for us, there's nothing stopping them from becoming violent, lying thieving sociopaths.
there have been many stories of people who have "found god" and changed their life, giving up drugs, repenting for past crimes.
I think the answer is as simple as 'survival'
on mother's day we often forget those who are mother's but never had the chance to hold their child.
some because they chose to give their child up for adoption.
others because of miscarriage or stillbirth.

a tribute to a wonderful woman, who is all our "granny"!!.
we love you grace!
have a wonderful mother's day!!.
Thank you Grace for being who you are, for all the love you give so freely, for the genuine caring you show and the little trick you have of touching a strangers heart right out of the blue. Happy Mothers Day.

snowbird,.
what have you against cuddles, hs?.
in real life?
It horses for courses
In real life there are people who are very affectionate towards others and there are peole who are less so. There are people who easily get involved in others affairs and people who shy away from this. For me I can empathise with a persons situation but unless I know them personally I find it difficult to shower them with love and affection and if I am honest I find those kind of displays a little false. But that is just my opinion.
As for HS I personally find him to be one of the funniest, quick witted (if at times a little caustic), intelligent and to me genuinely honest posters on here (that is not to say others are not honest but he is honest in a quite bluint fashion, which sits well with me). He would definitely be in my top 3 of posters I would like to have a beer with and discuss the great mystery life is. And as for his mind I can quite honestly say I love the way in which it apparently works...........but I think HS would understand this kind of comment on love.

i thought i'd start a different thread for this from the funeral experience where i saw this jw again after 30+ years.. after her first e-mail to me i wrote her back and answered direct questions she'd asked me.
i didn't push any agenda.. here is her kiss-off:.
first my apologies for how long my reply has taken.

For this lady to even have this much discussion with you shows the fondness and respect she had and still has for you........but unfortunately your thinking mind would rock her world completely and she isnt giving.
Do you think some people get to an age where they give up and just think this is my lot and its what I am sticking with?
I think the world she has created for herself is in its way comfortable and secure, and gives her enough of what she wants in life to cling to it. She may always think, she might have questions, but she has developed the switch off mechanism that prevents her going any further.
Good on you for your honesty.
i thought long and hard about posting this but the mis-information on this site finally persuaded me, i already accept many may not accept what i say on face value and get their appologist pens ready for making sure no pro-witness propaganda slips through the net on this site but here goes....... i've been on this forum for a few months my first post was about how i was thinking of returning to jw's and at my sisters recommendation to look at this site for both sides of the story before taking that step.. i faded from jw's 10/11 years ago now i left my hubby at the time divorced him to going on to have more relationships and kids, i was definately given the impression after asking on this site and with what i read that if i tried to return i might face df or at least a jc but definately a couple of elders questioning me over what i've been upto these last few years - none of these have happened.
i talked with an old jw friend (yes i do have then and she never shunned me quite happily accepted an offer of coffee from me and my asking for a chat) i told her i was interested in going back and was very frank about what i done in the last 10 years but not sure how returning was done now, she quite happily said she go ask for me to find out.. result!
she came back this week and said "all i had to do was goto meetings again" and an offer of a study was there for me if i wanted it to explore the open doubts that i had expressed i now had.. not quite the fire and brimstone welcome this site led me to believe would happen.. i will keep you posted with further updates if i feel the need to put them in future.. .
There could be various things going on here
First Reniaa could be genuine and if so it is up to her is she wishes to return to the jw life. If thats what she wants for herself then so be it. Most of us know our own feelings towards this organisation and have done enough research to recognise the errors and falseness connected with jwism. It seems trying to convince someone who is in 'love' with the ideal of being a jw is getting nowhere fast. If Reniaa suffers with intellectual dishonesty, has a victim mentality or is just plain stupid then really we can only pity her. I get the feeling whatever she does she will be a wishy washy witness at best and would be using it as a child uses a comforter rather than a answer to the questions that are at the depths of our hearts and souls. (reniaa there is no offense intended in my description, but just speaking the truth, I can only summarise from my own standpoint that one of the above must be true - to most of us it is inbelievable that someone with this much information available to them would be considering returning to that religion) I could understand it more if you had not come across a site like this, I have felt the same way before I started looking at the teachings and prophesies, even the accuracy of the bible translation the witnesses use and now I recognise it for what it is and I understand why being bought up in that religion influenced the very way in which my mind worked and the thoughts I had. I am glad to be free of its influence and even though I dont have all the answers to life I am not living life controlled by a set of teachings and expectations that are damaging and untrue.
If Reniaa is 'winding' us up in some way, if Reniaa is an alias of a troll or maybe Trevor himself then there is no harm done. Whoever this person is they seek attention because they have little else in their life and that you can only feel sorry for them. Either choose not to waste time on them or know that this site is bound to attract people who are lonely and it is a form of companionship for them. Be thankful that you have a life and the honesty to use this site with a different motivation. Again Reniaa no offense intended, but because of the inconsistencies drawn to our attention on this thread you can undertsand why this is a consideration. You wouldnt be the first person who has been dishonest with other users on this site.
Whatever the truth I truly hope that you find what it is you are looking for in your life and that at some point you find contentment.
