J-ex-W, when were you in Guam? My father was in the Navy and we spent three years in Guam a long time ago. Have never been back - but would like to go some time just to see it again.
As for the cake, break it into pieces, sprinkle with your favorite booze, layer into a pretty dish with berries, vanilla custard (pudding) and put some whipped cream on top. Voila! A trifle, which is delicious.

i got a call a week ago last thursday night that my sister in law who is dying of pancreatic cancer in ca was admitted to hospice, removed from her feeding tube and had at best a couple of days left because her organs were shutting down.
i got on a plane on monday, along with my sister and mother from chicago and flew to san diego thinking we were going to a funeral.

i need to know something and i need help finding out the truth:.
if i retired from military as pharmacist, before becoming a witness and receive pension every month + benefits, is it contradictory with witnesses not being part of military?.
should i give up my pension to be in tune and harmony with our beliefs?.
obviously no one here gives a s$$$ what you do with your pension - it's your money. Keep it or give it to the WTBTS, as you please. You have received quite a few nice respectful and helpful answers but it doesn't seem to be enough for you. I'm with pubsinger and what-a-coincidence. Why are you asking folks on this forum instead of asking the elders? Do you want to make sure you like the answer before you approach the elders?
i have more fun, but since i grew up as a jw, some things will never happen.
i'll never sleep around, take drugs, smoke, but i do enjoy swearing!
i love having a more normal relationship with the people i work with and it's funny to talk about what i used to believe (they never knew the half of it!
I love swearing, too. Did some sleeping around, had some fun that way, don't do it anymore through lack of inclination. Don't smoke, drink, or do drugs, so swearing is it for me! That and R rated movies.
i have a hard time accepting and believing that this whole wt 'phenonemon' is, and has always been, an end unto itself.. i can't help but suspect that this publishing company, masquerading as a religion, is still a front for something - or someone else.. i don't have any substantial empirical evidence, just a whole lot of anecdotal evidence that just happens to fit the hypothesis that there are deeper levels to this whole ridiculousness.
fundamentalist islam seems to be able to control and exert influence in it's followers to the point of suicide attacks.
i submit that the influence of the jw religion upon it's followers is analogous, if not completely identical (at this time).
I doubt if there is anyone hidden behind the org. I think it started as a millenial sort of religion, looking for christ's return, became one man's pulpit, became a corporation under his successors, and is now firmly interested in self-preservation. The men at the top (and their 'submissive' wives") have a pretty good deal, they are mainly interested in keeping their power base. What fools their followers are - and the JWs are definitely following men, not god, for giving them all that power. What a fool I was to participate for so long! They have no power, if you don't give them any. Of course, if the people who matter to you are still entrenched in the cult, they do have the power to take them away from you. But sooner or later you are going to lose them anyway - best to get the heck out of that cult, and live a happy life to prove to the family and friends still in that the org. isn't the only way to go.
i obtained a copy of the book at 60% off because the local discovery channel store is closing shop.
i also obtained some great shelves on the cheap from the store, something i've been shopping for for a while.
anyhoo, as a profoundly thwarted perfectionist, a la jehovah's witness-style, i find this book both heart-warming, comforting and smart.
I'll look for it - I love all the decorating television shows, but they can make me feel dissatisfied. I like what you said, that the people should be the focal point of a room. I'm in the process of shedding my husband's things (soon to be ex-husband) and wondering what the house will look like when it just has my stuff in it. I hope it looks more peaceful - it certainly feels more peaceful. It will never be perfect as I don't have that kind of talent, so being satisfied with less than perfect would be a good thing.
abandoned got me thinking about this is an earlier post, when he said along the lines of 'he wished he had never had thw whole jw experience'.
i also remember reading recently on another thread how one poster said their creative talents were stifled.. so now i am pondering what life woulda/coulda been like...............had i not had jw parents................in my own case i was very bright at school and excelled in maths and english subjects, but i remember zero encouragement from my parents for all that i was acheiving, or to pursue any type of career.............so maybe i was destined to be a journalist, an accountant (or maybe not)........i always liked the thought of acting, but guess that is most kids dream and i was also drawn to my fathers vocation, that of training racehorses but being the fourth child and having three older brothers my dad didnt take this very seriously.
i also love doing old houses up and interior design, which whilst i have done for my own personal use never considered as a career...................and then there is the latent writer in me just bursting with a bestseller.. oh my!!
I turned down a full-freight scholarship to university. Wanted to study linguistics. Who knows what would have happened to me if not for the JW prison? Well, I suppose life would have happened, and it did anyway. I like a lot of things about my life now. I own my own business, have gotten to do a lot of interesting things, have written some books and been published (nothing along the lines of J.K.Rowling!!!), have good friends, live in a lovely part of the country. I've had some hard times, but everyone has those - it isn't the fault of JWs. The main thing is I am very very glad not to be a JW, probably the best thing I ever did was fade away from that hell.
the reason that i ask this question is for two reasons mainly.. firstly, my experience as a jw and within the various congregations i was part of, was that they were a very mixed bag.
there were those who were very devout, studious and appeared to be very humble and placid in nature.
there were those that were very judgemental of others.

Me,too! I was very judgmental of others and always depressed because I didn't measure up, any more than anyone else did. Now, in spite of the problems life throws at me, I am happier than most people I know, I love a good laugh. And I have learned to mind my own business and keep my mouth shut about how other people live their lives (in spite of the very opinionated comments I have posted here!!!) God isn't watching everyone's every step, waiting for them to fall. Why should I be like that?
Also, I have truer friends now, having had the experience of being abandoned by everyone in the org. that I thought was a real friend.
when i was studying, the sister who studied with me was a pioneer and as "righteous-overmuch" as they come!
i wasn't even baptized and she was already pressuring me to pioneer since i didn't work.
nevermind that i had three little girls all under 4!!!.
I think if you tell about her, the focus would be on you rather than on her. It would seem like sour grapes and no one would believe you. It sounds like she has her own sexual addiction, and people like that usually shoot themselves in the foot sooner or later. When it happens, then you can tell your sister, "she wasn't as good as she pretended to be. Maybe I'm not as bad as you think I am." You can talk to her a little about the dangers of judging others.
so my opinion is that you should enjoy your revenge fantasies just as much as you want, it's fun to think about what you'd like to do to smarmy bitches like that, but don't actually carry any of your fantasies out as I think it will come back to bite you.
mind your own business, let the woman work out her own karma, don't soil your hands digging into her mess.

Also saw a nice little convertible Thunderbird driven by a guy who didn't look very tall, so he was dwarfed by the giant standard poodle sitting in the passenger seat next to him. (I wish Thurber was still around to make a cartoon of that!)
Around here everyone drives a Mercedes, what's interesting is that lately I have been seeing Bentleys, and even a couple of those Italian cars that cost more than I make in two or three years.
You can tell I was on the road a lot today.
