drunk drivers kill people. I have had two of my students killed by drunk drivers. I think that with the first DUI a person should serve jail time, harsh enough so that there isn't a second time. I was on jury duty once on a murder case - got dismissed because I knew the defendant - but the terrible thing is that he had EIGHT previous DUIs and was driving drunk and without a license when he killed an innocent person in an accident. I just think the courts should get really nasty with drunk drivers.

No more fiendish punishment could be devised
by slimboyfat inno more fiendish punishment could be devised, if such a thing were physically possible, than that one should be turned loose in society and remain absolutely unnoticed by all the members thereof.
if no one turned around when we entered, answered when we spoke, or minded what we did, but if every person we met cut us dead and acted as if we were nonexistent things, a kind of rage and impotent despair would before long well up in us, from which the cruelest bodily torture would be a relief.

I was thinking this morning, on my drive in to work, about another thread where the poster proposed that it would be a good thing if someone like the Virginia Tech madman would blow away the governing body or some group of JWs to make a point to the world. I think that is a kind of twisted way of saying that some JW practices, especially disfellowshipping, are so oppressive that it creates a climate in which such a thing could occur. The psychological profile of the V. Tech murderer and others like him, according to a report I read, is a longstanding feeling of rejection, coupled with a history of depression and a fascination with guns and explosives. The more I read about that, the more I am surprised that it has not happened in a Kingdom Hall because shunning is such a terrible form of rejection. I really really hope that it doesn't happen - and that sites such as this one show such a person that there is a whole world outside the WTBTS prison. Doesn't it scare you?

It just occurred to me that the JWs who survive Armageddon will need to know a few things, like how to make soap, if all the factories and workers in the world are destroyed. Here's how: you save all the ashes from your hardwood fires (hmmmmm, not much in the way of trees around here). You put them in a barrel until the barrel is full. (hmmmmm, I see another hitch, unless they save some containers they find while cleaning up the earth.) Also, you save all the animal fat from the sacrifices (come on now, if Jehovah is going to kill off 99.9% of humans, surely the remaining JWs can kill a few animals in gratitude.) Then when you are ready, and you have a lot of animal fat, hardwood ashes, rainwater, and a big container or two, you can make soap. On the first day, boil the animal fat in lots of water until it is all rendered. Allow to cool. Next day, take the clean fat off the top and put into a big pot over the fire to melt. Meanwhile, fill the ash barrel with rainwater. let it sit overnight, then carefully (this is LYE now) drain it into another container. Test the strength with a chicken egg - if it floats showing an area the size of a quarter above the liquid, it is strong enough to make soap (and burn your skin off and blind you if you are not careful.) Pour the lye into the melted fat in about an equal amount. Stir for a few hours over the fire until it saponifies, quickly pour into molds. Allow to cure for three to six weeks, and cut into bars. There! Doesn't that sound easy? Any old armageddon survivor ought to be able to pull that off.

Are JW's generally better than average people?
by JH ini for one, would blindly trust just about anyone on this forum, just the fact of knowing that you already were a jw.. does this mean that jw's in general are better people or are we a very close bunch of people?.

Do you like SOUTH PARK????? Then here's a little treat...
by Kudra inweeellll, here is a site that shows all of their full episodes!

I like South Park - what I find amusing is that they do a lot of stuff to deliberately offend people, people who oblige by becoming very offended. One of the things my husband didn't like about me (you know - the religious maniac gun-collecting cop-killer-wannabe) was that I would laugh at South Park. He said it was proof that I have low morals...I think it's proof that I can see the joke!

I read an interesting book about how the ancient city of Ubar in the Arabian peninsula was found using satellite photos to discern ancient roadways that lead to an ancient oasis. Also I read another book about the Taklimakan Mummies. Several scientific disciplines combined to figure out that these European looking mummies found in the Asian desert are linked (via DNA and the fibers they wove) to a group of ancient people in the area of what is now Switzerland. Evidently some of these people migrated eastward toward Asia and others of the same family group wound up in Scotland!

scientists have used mitochondrial DNA to trace the families of humans on the earth, they've discovered how we are related, how families moved around the earth over the millenia. To me that is one of the most fascinating things I've read about.
