Corporate influence in the public arena
by Hortensia inhttp://www.citizenkoch.com/blog/entry/statement-about-public-broadcasting.
i've always considered public broadcasting to be a good idea that doesn't really work out.
the people who run public broadcasting are elitist and self-righteous, and they take money from huge corporations.

"George W. Bush, moron extraordinare." or "Reagan- clearly had Alzheimer's disease while governor of California."
haha! Love it. I agree with both of these ideas, by the way.

very nice! I love the metronome-like rhythm in these lines, very subtle:
With soft hiccups keeping time
for lack of a proper metronome

Gee, name-calling in less than 10 posts!
I believe that corporate contributions to politicians is bad for the public. I think that corporate contributions to public television skews what can be shown on public television. This is a nation of, by and for corporations. It ain't good, that's for damn sure.
What would I do? Make paid lobbyists illegal. Don't allow political parties to accept donations larger than $100.00. Have central funding for political campaigns, money divided among all qualifying groups, so that people don't donate to a specific party, but to a specific campaign such as the presidential race. I'm not sure what kind of qualification, though. That needs some thinking -- maybe a specific number of unique signatures supporting your candidacy.

Broccoli is easy, however it got warm here too soon, so the broccoli matured too fast. I still eat it, I like the stems best anyway. I don't know about potato bugs yet. This is my first garden in this climate, so I have a lot to learn. I think potatoes might be even cheaper if you grow them -- seed potatoes were less than $1/lb here, and a pound gives you about 30 cuttings, each of which would easily give you five pounds of potatoes. But, of course, you'd be harvesting your 100 or more pounds of potatoes all at once and giving them away by the bucket.
It's more for fun, the ability to taste different varieties of vegetables, some exercise and sunshine.

I've always considered public broadcasting to be a good idea that doesn't really work out. The people who run public broadcasting are elitist and self-righteous, and they take money from huge corporations. They can't really tell the truth about anything important without pissing off those corporations, therefore they censor themselves to avoid losing money.
If they weren't so elitist, they might get more money donated from people like me and be truly free of corporate influence.

Fun! I ate some broccoli fresh from my garden this week. I have 6 volunteer potato plants, they're coming along really well. Plus the broccoli, carrots, chard, shallots, herbs. I only have a small plot in a community garden, I wish I had a bit more planting area. However, I have a friend with a large garden and she is growing about 20 tomato plants. She'll grow the tomatoes, cilantro, jalapenos and onions. I'll can the salsa at the end of summer when the tomatoes are producing like crazy.
