BeFree, welcome! And hang in there, things become more clear as you investigate them. Leaving the wtbts was the best thing I ever did.

That's my understanding from what I've been reading -- it's a highly visible area near major banks and government offices, with a lot of foot traffic as well.
Cruelty personified, aren't they?

Hi, and welcome to JWN!
1. if jw isn't the right religion, then which one is? Or is it basically believe in God, the bible and you'll be fine?
Is it possible that no religion is "right?" That they all reflects the beliefs, fears and ambitions of the people who created the religions? I find it very compelling that people tend to believe the religion they were born in is the true religion. So if you had been born to a Buddhist family, you'd believe that Buddhism is right. They can't all be right, and when you look at the doctrines and practices, it becomes clear that none of them are right.
2. i can't find any other religion who has broken thru all the racial barriers and teach the same stuff worldwide....In all honesty I do trust "most" jw if I were to stay at their house or vice versa.
You may not have experienced or observed racism in the wtbts; that doesn't mean it isn't there. The congregation I grew up in was racially mixed and we weren't raised to think that people of different skin colors or ethnic backgrounds were in any way inferior. That didn't keep the congregations in La Jolla from feeling superior to us, because of our mixed race congregation and general poverty.
3. If some of you don't believe in the organization, why attack it or stand outside assemblies etc trying to spread the word of being against them, what benefit is this?
Well, I don't personally see much benefit to standing outside the assemblies trying with signs. I remember as a kid how we were told they were apostates, and they had some name for apostates that I've forgotten, evil something class. However, I totally understand people who are driven to speak out against the wtbts, and who want to demonstrate against it.
4. I have read and seen throughout history that they could have wrong teachings and that yes they have been wrong in the past about some things, jw normally say well we changed and the light got brighter.
Well, it's illogical bullshit. How could something be completely true at one time, and then later something diametrically opposite now be true, when they've always claimed that they have the definitive truth. "The light is getting brighter," is a thought-stopping sentence that keeps them from questioning anything.
Best thing is to keep researching, asking questions, looking for different ideas and testing them against what you know and what you learn. But don't speak up too much until you are really ready, because they can make life hard for you if you want to keep friends and family from shunning you.

Global War on Religion Has Began - Archbishop Wabukala
by cofty inthe anglican archbishop of kenya, eliud wabukala has declared that the terrorist attacks in kenya by al shabaab is part of a global war on organised religion.... speaking to a men's association conference yesterday he blamed "militant promotion of atheism" and called on all religions to unite against the threat.. how long until the geniuses at brooklyn towers quotes him as an authority on world affairs, as opposed to the paranoid buffoon that he is?.

"terrorist attacks in Kenya by Al Shabaab" are the fault of atheists? That doesn't make any sense. Aren't Al Shabaab a group of militant muslims? How is that the fault of atheists?

Self created Fluff about Nothing!
by stuckinarut2 inthis weeks wt study is so full of fluff about nothing!

And here I thought you were starting a proper fluff thread, you know, about Dr. Who and everything. WT bullshit is more like lint than fluff, isn't it? That stuff you pull out of the dryer vent and find out rats have been living in it?

Did you AWAKEN from the JWs by yourself?
by cultBgone ini was thinking about how so many posters here on jwn are frustrated and frantic to help their loved ones get away from the brainwashing of jws, and how much advice is given about how to help family members and loved ones.
i considered my own leaving and that it was internal turmoil based on the teachings getting weirder and child abuse issues, to name just a few, and it made me wonder:.
did you self-awaken or were you assisted by the gentle proddings of a friend or family member?

I was all by myself, actually. Severely depressed, just quit going because I had lost all hope. Began to feel better, felt sick if I contemplated going to a meeting but otherwise started to enjoy life again. I had been out for several years before I met an ex-JW. She recommended Barbara Grizzuti Harrison's book, Visions of Glory. That book made a terrific impression on me, really helped me see what a load of BS the wtbts is.

If you are pondering leaving....
by snare&racket inwiser men have lived and died than those ignorant dictators of brooklyn, for those that are pondering the courage required to cease the so called life as subjects to their whim, consider the words of someone far more inspirational than self appointed men hiding from real life dictating to millions how to live.... .
out of the night that covers me, black as the pit from pole to pole, i thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul.. in the fell clutch of circumstance i have not winced nor cried aloud.
under the bludgeonings of chance my head is bloody, but unbowed.. beyond this place of wrath and tears looms but the horror of the shade, and yet the menace of the years finds and shall find me unafraid.. it matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, i am the master of my fate, i am the captain of my soul.. .

I used to love that poem. Still like it, in fact.
