I know this topic is really over but I remembered a Chivas experience. Years ago (but still post-JW) went to dinner at the house of a Korean friend (she served garlic with every course, sauted, stewed, pickled, preserved in honey, about seven different ways.) My boy friend at the time and I liked Chivas Regal and someone had given her a CASE of Chivas for christmas. She didn't drink at all and didn't have a clue. She served us the Chivas in water glasses and kept topping them off. I was hammered before I knew it, and my boy friend thankfully started pouring his in the plants when she wasn't looking, although all that did was make her top up his glass again but at least he wasn't too drunk to drive home. I kept hoping she'd give us a bottle, but she didn't.

A question for all Whisky drinkers.
by lfcviking inhello chumz on the board.
nothing really to do with jwism but who prefers the american 'bourbon' type such as 'wild turkey', 'jim beam' etc or who prefers a fine single malt scotch such as 'glenfiddich' or 'glenmorangie'?
i am not trying to stir up nationalism with this question but am just genuinely curious.. lfcv.

so, lots of points to respond to
first, evidently I can't take a joke - can't even see one!!! sorry folks - you're right that I'm new to this or any forum - never followed any forum before, but am addicted to this one. I will lighten up.
as for employers, I am one, employ 12 people more or less, depending on the season, and the thing employers have to do is respond to any complaint immediately and sincerely, doing their best to handle the situation appropriately. Where many employers get in trouble is through avoidance which just makes people mad. If the employer won't listen, they go find someone who will.
As for other forms of harassment, employers are responsible to be sure there isn't a hostile work environment, so an employee who experiences that - even if it isn't sexual harassment or religious harassment or any other protected group - should report it to the employer, document the problem, and keep reporting it and documenting it and any witnesses, and the effect of the behavior, etc. That way if the employer doesn't respond appropriately or in a reasonable time, the employee who is suffering can find other recourse and likely succeed.
as for gossip in the org., holy heck it's one of the worst things about them. I found it kind of fun to find out what some of the gossip was about me - lesbian being one. Mental illness, witchcraft, some sort of occult entrapment, anything but me making my own choice to just get the hell out.

There are JWs happy to be in that org
by greendawn inwe on this forum were all more or less unhappy with the wts for one reason or other and inevitably we left that religion which we consider to be in fact a cult.
we can't understand or imagine how anyone could be happy living in that negative environment yet there seem to be quite a few dubs that are happy and content being jws.
apart from the obvious ones eg those that have some status which gives them a sense of importance why do others feel happy being there?

I remember that there were people who were happy - mainly families who did a lot of stuff with other families, made sure their kids had activities, fun, friends. There was a group of a half-dozen families centered around one popular woman who loved her kids and was pretty reasonable about their activities. Also, those who had position and power were happy, why not? There was no place as far as I could see for single people in those congregations, we were really outsiders and often just ignored and rather unhappy and lonely in the midst of those happy people. Not everyone has the horrible experiences we had, and not everyone cares about the logic of it, or whether or not it is actually TRUE. some are quite comfortable to have their lives full of activities and some good reason to look down on outsiders. In fact I remember one good friend, the husband of this woman, who admitted to me when I was on my way out, that he didn't believe any of it, but why rock the boat? He was comfortable with attending meetings now and then, working to support his family and letting his wife take care of everything else.

so many things to say about this issue - of course by now anyone reading my posts knows how wordy I am. when I left the org. I found out that anyone who wants to get laid can, and actually I had some fun that way. However, in the long run I guess we all want more, and anyway the promiscuous route is pretty dangerous. I met a really nice man through my business and we got married. We've been married 13 years now, have a nice relationship. it was rocky for a while, because of the very thing you said in your post: "now just want to be looked after and dont think theres anyone out there." My husband and I both were wanting to be rescued when we got married, had to work out some issues around expectations, but eventually came to see that on the one hand, we each need to take care of ourselves, and then on the other hand, we can take care of each other. I don't think men are attracted to needy women - so maybe get out there and get involved in work, education, hobbies, sports - make yourself happy and have an interesting life, and you'll definitely find someone worthwhile.
preachy, ain't I?

sbf - once you realized the trend of this forum, how come you continued to post? Aren't you hanging out with "bad association?" Shouldn't we report this to your elders? I wonder what they would say - where is your congregation anyway? I think you are trying to have it both ways - you hang out with apostates on the one hand and on the other hand get in little snide self-righteous digs from your position as a practicing JW.

kids are insensitive. It's OK. Kool-aid is also used in the fiber community to dye fibers, yarns, etc. I've done it a couple of times - really cool results. The only problem is that the colors are limited and I'm not good at mixing colors, so there isn't much variety. But it's the cheapest easiest solution to dying yarn for custom effects. Only, now I know it contains just plain old dye, I wouldn't drink it again for anything you paid me.

have chronic sinus infections, lots of scar tissue up there, allergies, sleep apnea - and my husband says I snore like a freight train. I sympathize with your problem! Also restless leg syndrome, but after years of just not sleeping, I finally told my doctor and am taking a med for RLS and actually slept 6 hours last night without waking up, a first in my adult life. What a difference it makes to get that REM sleep.
