  well, I guess from an evolutionary standpoint, we aren't born to die, we are born to reproduce, because we die. I don't call myself anything, atheist, agnostic, whatever, but I don't believe there is a god and any evidence that is presented to prove there is a god would have to be very clear and not able to be explained by anything else.

  I have to add that I saw a UFO a couple of times - and to me it wasn't aliens from outer space, just some flying thing I couldn't identify that looked like the ones they show on television. No evidence to show it was anything other than something manmade. I think belief in god and belief in UFOs are kind of similar, both with very little evidence.

  Low carb...............high protein diet

  ok so now im more confused than ever.................... i have found out information that says you should eat 1gram of protein to every lb you weigh...............ok i can do that , i thought.

  4oz--100gram chicken breast, thats not a lot, but that is not how its calculated .

  100 grams of chicken is only 14 g protein.. so if i ate only chicken for a day say 10oz--300 gram................= 1,120 calories ( my limit ) its only 42 grams of protein.. can anyone explain it, have i got it wrong .

  I once made a list of every diet I have ever tried. It was a long list. the result is that I got fatter and fatter...

  now I am on a long-term diet (three year project part of a drug trial) and I have lost 75 pounds. What works for me? Just a simple balance of calories in - calories out. Carbs are vital, but it's the refined carbs that have the high calories and are death to weight loss. There are a lot of websites that can help you figure out how many calories to eat for your height, weight, BMI and so on. What works best for me also is a sort of Perricone diet. Whole grains in small amounts, lots of salad and veggies, about the same amount of protein as carbs, eat berries and walnuts and cantaloupe every day. Plus I have lots of little crutches like not eating for four hours after a meal, keeping a detailed record of everything I eat (that keeps self-deceit at bay), reading about nutrition every day, having friends to talk to about dieting, not eating carbs after lunch, etc. I have plans for eating out, eating at fast food restaurants, shopping. this is the most success I have ever had. I think the food diary is the most important aspect of the whole thing.

  another pathetic attempt to add to a thread

  I tried to learn Mandarin Chinese once. The grammar is quite easy, a lot like ours but with no tenses, so verbs don't change according to the time something takes place. What is hard is saying the words, after a lesson my lips would hurt! I finally gave up - wasn't going back to China again anyway what with prices going up and bird flu and SARS and so on.

  i am highly considering becoming a jehovah's witness.

  i have been raised in the congregration, but left it when i was a child because my mom left too, but we still retatined the core belifs including the ressurection and the blasphemous pagan influence on mainstream churches.

  my mom has recently returned to the congregation, and it has helped her a lot.

  Convince you? Who cares? You get to live your life your way. If you can read all the experiences related on the JWD forum and still think that religion is OK, hey honey, go for it. I was in it for 32 years, a lot longer than you, and I say it is an evil cult. I know what I am talking about.

  I googled "authenticity of the bible" and got a lot of links to pages by true believers, with logic like "I know it's true, therefore it must be true." anyway what do you mean by "authenticity?" obviously it's an authentic historic document, however, whether or not it is divinely inspired is seriously doubtful. And anyway that's an argument about something that can't be proved, and spare me your "proofs" that there is a god, sorry there ain't no evidence for such a critter.

  Carrie Underwood is easily the prettiest person ever on AI, even if she does sing country music which I really don't like. She seems sweet, too, glad she is having so much success. As for her song, don't take it so seriously. She isn't advocating that kind of revenge, she's just acting out how people feel sometimes.

  after a few mistakes, i am making the best icecream you have ever tasted!.

  I used to make home made ice cream - my favorite (and my husband's and friends') was lemon ginger - I made a lemon custard and froze it with lemon peel and candied ginger. Darn that was good! However, I have been on a diet for a long time now, being very successful, so I guess it had better remain a memory! Enjoy your ice cream - maybe try some dark chocolate chunks and cinnamon in your vanilla ice cream?

  our weather person on the news is saying the 90s are here to stay - we already had our first 100 degree day. We had a freak storm last week, blew cold air through the area, snow on our local mountains, but it melted the next day because of the heat. The snow was really pretty, I love seeing it, even though I live in the desert. One of the really funny sights here is the long long line of RVs on the freeway heading north, the day after our first 100 degree day each spring. I always get a laugh out of that.

  moshe, I never thought of that - of course JWs would say the ice man was from a more recent period or something like that, they always have an answer now matter how ridiculous. I remember my mother getting quite irate about the gorilla who could use sign language. My mother said, in spite of the evidence right in front of her on television, that it could never happen because god gave man dominion over the animals. My mother was a nice woman, and intelligent, so I always wondered about this kind of logic...just crazy.

  I think we always called them deviled eggs - deviled meaning piquant or spicy, not demonized. I never saw a recipe for deviled eggs with melted butter! I always put mayonnaise, mustard, and a little vinegar mixed with a pinch of sugar. I used to collect egg plates - now I have too many, although some are really cute. I started giving them away a while ago, uncollecting, I guess.
