haven't got into legal trouble, but if the JWs had known what I was up to when I left the org., there would have been hell to pay. Oh well, who cares what they think? Probably my worst problem is a foul mouth, which I think is an expression of the amount of repression I experienced as a JW. Feels good to say those "bad" words.

Holidays
by BR25 ini am a former jw, but i still believe what they do about the holidays?
i have already talked about origins and all that stuff so i wanted to ask something without bringing up scriptual or historical backgrounds for a change.. my question is (whatever your beliefs may be) what % of people who celebrate christmas, if you took the presents out of christmas would still acknowledge christmas as much as they do now?

I love Christmas, not because of its Christian associations, but for the pagan ones. My friends and I don't exchange much in the way of gifts, but we like to make fruitcakes for everyone we know and have a solstice party and hang wreaths on the door and lights around the outside of the house. I don't really know anyone who goes in much for gifts, except for people with kids.

Crappyassed week (Athsma, kidney problems for my little boy!!)

.turned out i sprained my back and was to get to the chiro again the next day.
.except, my 6 yo was in the middle of a hideous athsma attack from mon night on.

Why are people so afraid to question the authenticity of the Bible...
by zeroday infor thousands of years people have taken the bible as the word of god.

I agree with Jaguar Bass in that I really don't understand why someone would escape from one religion and submit to another. It seems pretty obvious to me that religion developed not only as mankind's attempt to understand the world around them, but also as a pretty useful way to control people. It no longer serves much purpose as far as understanding the world around us, but it is still quite useful for controlling people, raising money, creating a power base.
As for whether or not god exists, I don't suppose it matters. We have to deal with the world we know, and that is complicated enough. What happens when we die? Well, we'll find out when we die. But I seriously doubt that there is someone keeping score somewhere, who will punish or bless us at death, as he/she/it sees fit.

i have had something strike very close to home and i thought i might share it incase someone out there might be thinking the same thing and is trying to put their finger on it.
i should give a small history on it to set it up.. growing up in the truth i was a model young man.

"making your watchtower looked intensively studied"
boy that strikes home - I also was very proud of how thoroughly my bible was annotated - in fact when I faded and eventually ran into someone from the hall, she didn't ask about me, she just asked what happened to my bible. I had fun telling her I donated everything to a thrift store. I cringe now when I think about what a goody-two-shoes I was when I was a young JW.

not sure what threads last the longest - I notice the bible doctrine ones have the longest posts which is a different thing. All that debate about stuff that doesn't matter = I skip those, and I'm tired of threads about the memorial, thank goodness that is all over. Otherwise, most are pretty interesting and there are some very intelligent and well-read folks on this forum.
