well I thought they were friends while I was a JW. Thought they were close friends, in fact. However when I stopped going to meetings only one of them ever followed up to see what happened to me, and he just wanted to guilt me because, as he said, I was his wife's best friend and now she didn't have any friends. Some friend - she never tried to see what happened to me, nor did anyone else. What is it one of you always says? "Can you feel the love?"

You know, in all my years in and out of the WTBTS, I never heard much about this. It's amazing how much the org. will compromise, while not allowing their members to compromise. The reason JWs went to concentration camps is just because they weren't allowed to compromise, although the governing body was certainly will to kiss ass in a really disgusting way. I thought the following, in their own words, puts the whole matter very clearly:
"Instead of being against the principles advocated by the government of Germany, we stand squarely for such principles, and point out that Jehovah God through Christ Jesus will bring about the full realization of these principles and will give to the people peace and prosperity and the greatest desire of every honest heart…" In the previous sentences the WTBTS equated big business with Jews. So the message was, dear Mr. Chancellor, please go after those nasty Jews and Catholics but leave us alone. We're special and we think you are just wonderful! Those principles advocated by the government of Germany included the extermination of anyone who didn't agree with them and the extermination of entire groups of people like the Jews and gypsies. The WTBTS would have been OK with the destruction of those groups, after all they are looking forward with really shameful glee to the destruction of damn near everyone on earth. But they felt they themselves were too special to be treated the same.

I know we're not supposed to speculate, but....
by journey-on inbased on a post today about the decrease in incoming donations to the wts and this.
i believe that the new mag arrangement starting next jan is the beginning of the wt becoming a really, really dangerous cult.
from another post, i speculate that the "for jws only" issue of the watchtower is going to be heavy on $$$ issues.

Who Will Survive---And Why?
by Sunspot inwe find where the wts editorial staff has written their opinions:.
"jehovah is using only one organization today to accomplish his will.
to receive everlasting life in the earthly paradise we must identify that organization and serve god as part of it.".

JWs have their own dictionary, you know, the one where they aren't protestant or catholic, and they aren't a part of "christendom." Lots of other words also have special JW-only meanings. That is what cults do. It's part of the mind-fucking that goes on in religion.

JW'S neither Catholic nor Protestant? WHAT, THEN?
by Terry inthe main split in christianity (between catholics and protestants) is the issue of who tells you what to do and how they tell you.
the catholic church has staked out the "chain of evidence" theory which is sacred tradition.
the church has all authority in faith and morals.. protestants (since martin luther) cling to the assertion that the bible alone can give instruction directly, or; sola scriptura.

"pederasts and catamites!!"
(snicker rudely, snort)
if you want a serious answer, it doesn't matter what the WTBTS says, history shows they come out of the protestant movement.

what was his point? (frostyelectronics, that is, if it is a he, maybe a she) Whatever, how can he/she imagine that anyone posting here hasn't already read that scripture? Maybe just lazy and at home counting time posting scriptures on the internet.

Help me describe the idealized JW fantasyland
by sir82 inbased on the illustrations in the books & magazines, and the videos produced by the society, describe the world that the gb would like jws to live in.. for example.... -- parties never have more than 15 persons attending.
entertainment consists of one chap playing a guitar while the rest sing kingdom melodies, followed by stimulating conversations of "field service experiences" and "how i came into the truth".
-- children of all ages are perfectly well-behaved for the full 2 hours of a congregation meeting.

years ago my room mate and I had a pet spider named "Agatha" who had a web in the kitchen window. We didn't wipe out her web because every morning there would be a little pile of bug bodies on the ledge beneath her web. Healthier than pesticide. She died after a couple of months - I don't think they live long. I mostly try not to kill bugs except I have made an exception for roaches, scorpions and vinegaroons, which are very very ugly cousins of scorpions. We see lots of them here in the desert.

I think it is more damaging for those who have family in the organization or close friends that they stand to lose, and of course disfellowshipping is extremely damaging. People like me with nothing to lose and who weren't DF'd I think suffer less withdrawal, less depression and grief. It was still hard, and depressing, but I didn't have many family ties and I soon saw how false my "friendships" were. What was hardest was feeling like someone from another planet as I tried to create a new life, find a career, make new friends. I think there's a name for that feeling - can't think of what it is right now - but I felt as if I had been dropped onto another planet with no clue about how to behave.
