It sounds like you were trying to be more then neutral and give her the benefit of the doubt. ALF is most certainly a terrorist group and I know several animal rights type people that want nothing to do with them. Thier extreme criminal activity is alienating alot of people that would otherwise suport them. Up in my area they just burned down three houses that were all built "green".

fresh baked bread
by Nathan Natas ininspired by greendawn's cheese thread, i thought i would ask if anyone enjoyed baking the occasional loaf of bread.. i recently stumbled over a blog - farmgirl fare .
employing my ninja training soas to avoid being recognized as not a farmgirl, i read a paean to one of the easiest of all breads - baking soda beer bread.. it is simple: 3 cups of flour, one cup of your favorite grated cheese, one tablespoon of sugar, one tablespoon of baking powder, and one teaspoon of salt, mixed quickly with 12 oz of beer and plopped into a standard one pound (4" x 9") loaf pan, cooked for about 50 minutes at 375 degrees f.. (all measurements are in "american.").

Then I go buy some corned beef and sour kraut and make reuben sandwiches! Mmmmm.......
One of my favorites also! A close second is smoked salmon, cream chease, cucumber and tomato on pumpernickle bread. By the time this thread is over we are all going to have picked up ten pounds at least just reading all this.

What was your first "Real" job...?
by Casper inone where you were actually given a paycheck, & where did you end up after that , if you're in the mood to tell ?
there are a lot of intelligent people here with, i assume, some very interesting occupations.... but hey, we all had to start somewhere........ for myself, my first real job was at a local clothing store, imagine my surprise when at the age of 18 i realized just how much items were marked up...!!!
i priced the clothes at 3 times the cost to the store.

I worked as an amusement park ride operator and ran the ferris wheel, coaster, scrambler, merry-go-round and water slide. To this day I am not sure what was worse, the kids or the goofy Robin Hood uniforms we had to wear. I hate Robin Hood.

We don't bake with our bread machine but we cheat and use it for the kneading and rising. Then we put the dough into regular bread pans so we don't get those cylindrical loaves.

I thought there would be more sourdough fans here (????). My starter was made by mixing flour and water together and setting it out on the deck all day. That way it collects natural yeasts that are hitching a ride on airborn pollens. It also picks up lactobacillus bacteria which produces lactic acid thus imparting the slight sour flavor.
Spring is the best time to get a sourdough culture started since the pollen is flying. But not all wild yeast is the same some areas do not have a very bread friendly yeast population and others do. If you want to play it safe you can just buy a starter culture at the store so you know what you're getting. You will also then have the instructions for keeping it alive in the refrigerator and how to incorporate it into a batch of bread.
My daughter likes to make butter from cream so we often have the homemade sourdough and fresh butter. If you have not tried it then you have not technically "lived" yet.

I have a sourdough culture in the fridge that I have kept going for 12 years now. Every couple weeks my wife or me makes two loaves of sourdough bread. That keeps the starter culture fed and the house smelling incredible. Nothing out of the store even comes close to homemade sourdough bread from a well aged culture.

Escargot(sp?), alligator and sea urchin roe. I think the show "Bizzare foods" is for the most part flat out gross but for some reason my daughter loves it.
