  What generation witness are you?

  i'm a 4th generation witness.

  however, i have jw cousins with grown grandchildren (that makes 6 generations), and two of them are married--all in the "truth.

  " if they have kids, they will be 7th generation.

  I am....er Was, 3rd gen. My grandfather heard the 'Millions now living' talk and signed up that very day. My mother married a non-beliver but she raised 4 kids as JW. I was the only one to stay IN and raised my 4 children as Dubs.....Oh the Shame I feel. Only 1 son is still IN and an elder, yikes that hurts. He will not have children so hopefully the 4th gen will end with him.

  My mother 89, does not know I am OUT as she lives in another state but I said to her to other day 'how about the 'millions now living will never die' talk that grandpa heard, do you think he would have become a witness if that promise had not hooked him? She did not really have an answer, just something about 'new light' and I dropped the subject but it does give her something to think about. That is when she is awake, 89 = lots of naps.

  Dominican Republic- Does Anyone Live There ?

  hey folks, i want to know if anybody from here lives there or has lived there.

  photo's?.

  are the witnesses pretty much the same there as they are here in the u.s.?.

  I know a couple, JW Missionaries living there. They come home to the US every few years. I really do not keep in contact with them these days but they always said the Dominican is beautiful and a great vacation bargin. This was a few years back but they said you could rent a beach house for under $50 a day,with a housekeeper. In my younger more adventurous days I would have thought nothing of testing the waters in a 3rd world country. I did my share of travel, but now, hum.....I need a little more security and comfort that the developed world offers.

  As others have said, if you can handle the lack of 911 available 24/7 and 'don't drink the water' I think the Dominican would be a fabulous place to explore. Just be aware and 'A-LERT' because as we know the world needs more 'Lerts' (very old joke-I couldn't help myself)

  i'm wondering, though, how many who got married as a jehovah's witness actually waited for their wedding day?

  it's for a "good cause," namely my peace of mind.

  ditto of Seeker......Yes and No.....this was 69 so we did EVERYTHING but the Big One. I was a little teeny bit guily but got over it and never told anyone. Some years later when we were missing a few meetings and elder came over to investigate and asked all about our pre-marriage. He said 'maybe Jehovah is witholding his spirit because you are guilty of something. He may even hold back his spirit from the whole congergation becasue of you! AS IF! Even though I was young and a koolaid drinker at the time, I didn't fall for that over-rightous baloney. We did start back to meeting and became very stong but never Nazi-witness's.

  I do know many many young couples at the time did 'Do It' Some were reproved and not much else, some were DF'd years later when it came out. I was very subjective. Depended on how well connected you were to the Boys Club---JC.

  Would You Wear Religious Jewelry Comfortably Now???

  would you honestly be comfortable to wear a cross, a crucifix or a religious medal of some sort?.

  i'm curious as to how many would feel "weird" about it now..

  I also remember the Truth Book illustration, would you wear a gun if your mother was murdered with one? I used that one on Bible students to get them to give up there gold cross jewerly. One of my girls had a cross from her grandmother and I got her to toss it. Sooo Sorry Melissa. Now I know better so I do better.

  To bad this thread seems to be dead. I saw it earlier this morning but no time to reply. This is a question I have asked myself lately. My good friend, also a member here, was given a gold cross as a gift years ago when we were IN. She was very touched that a work mate would give her such a nice gift but just put it in lower drawer, never to be worn. I wonder, J, would you wear it now?

  As for myself, I just don't know. I still have some 'crosses to bear' I guess. One time I had a part on an assembly and wore a 'fish' pin. The CO told me to take it off because it was a 'Jesus symbol' Ever the obedient slave, I removed it. I am still pissed to this day. AS IF !

  yep, bourdain's no reservations tops my list of favorites.. why is it that shows on food and cooking, reality or otherwise, kick the ass of just about everything else on tv?

  what do you expect with crap like america's got talent?

  yeah, maybe it does, but not much of it's getting on that show!.

  Ok, I'll duck as I say this.......Martha Stwart......ouch! I felt that brick.

  I know, everybody hates her but really she is a talented teacher because she is articulate and exacting. Takes the time to do things correctly.

  Yes Yes Yes Anthony Bourdain is fabulous----he is on the Travel channel not Food network. My son learned to love cooking from Jamie Oliver.

  I made an awesome chicken with goat cheese and mushroom from the Next Food Network Star. It was a Hit and added to my families favorites. I make 1-2 new recieps each week. Cooking shows are my inspiration.

  Anyone out there that hates to cook, yet love cooking shows?

  so i've been thinking about many of the different things the wts has put into effect this year in keep their strong hold on the flock: .

  - a new edition of the watchtower for jws only that uses all of their insider terminology.

  - individuals who are disfelloshipped, dissassociated, or have ceased association with the congregation should not receive the current literature.

  Drew, I would be interested in that letter also. My husband was WT conductor some years back and he was instucted to draw the audience out with auxilery questions. I do know the conductor the last few times I went, would ask the question and then wait and wait until serveral hands would go up so he could pick and choose those he wanted to call on. These long pauses of silence made everyone uncomfortable. I didn't know if that was 'his style' or if instructed to just ask the question exactly as written and wait them out.

  and yes, I do believe the WTstudy is 45min. With song and prayer adding the other 15min. The Public Talk is also 45min, not 1hr. And the speaker can 'count his time' because it is public ministry.I'll bet they all fudge it to 1hr. The 30min talk is going to cut into the looks of those guys service report.

  Volunteers needed to pick up bodies of dead

  ok, so there was an article looking for volunteers to pick up the bodies of the dead after a disaster such as katrina or 9-11. my first thought was that jws ought to volunteer for this and get the training.

  .it is their goal in life to pick up bodies (preferably after they have been picked over by carrion), and it seems like a fitting way to properly train for their future occupation.

  just think-they could save jehovah all kinds of time with their more efficient and capable cleansing of the earth of the wicked.

  Yes, according to WTU Science Dept. the anti matter machine is the way to go. They are looking for enginers, scientist and designers as well as manufactuing facilities to move forward on the plan. Word has come down from the FDS Administrators that THE END is very Very VERY CLOSE so the machine will be needed very Very VERY Soon. As yet no persons with the needed skills has applied.

  Applications will continue to be accepted 24/7 in person or online. The job comes with great benefits, no sickness, death or crying + a home forever in paradise (that is After the anti-matter machine does it's job)

  Aren't Jehovah's Witnesses just living in a ''Comfort Zone''?

  my immediate family,aunts,uncles,and cousins have been members for over 25 years.

  they attend every meeting,put in their 10 hours of monthly sevice,attend assemblies out of state every year,give talks at the ministry school,avoid "worldly friends'',and do everything the wts requires of them.

  they really can't see that the wts has lied to them and will continue until someone steps back and opens their eyes.. what needs to happen in order for someone to get out of the ''comfort zone''?

  I do agree that many JW's are good people and being one is not 'easy' but still most are Comfortable in their JW culture. They believe they are BETTER than anybody else and that over

  6 Billion people are going to DIE at Armegedon.

  Personally I was not comfortable with that teaching and I could not teach it to others.
