I'm from SoCal so grew up with some pretty good Taco's. Recently visited friends in VA and their version of taco's was plain ground meat with Velveta "cheese?" in a boxed hard shell tortilla.....I almost cried

Building New Relationships Outside the JW's
by Pyramid Scheme ini wanted to share my plans for 2013 and also get some advice from others who have gone through this process.
i have read several threads dedicated to this topic and was hoping to get some personal experiences.. i have been an inactive jw for 4 years, but my social life and association still heavily revolved around friendships built through my lifetime in the organization.
i support my wife by associating with a small group of couples from her hall that i still like and don't irritate me.

PS you have a great plan. Congratulations on following through with charity work. You will meet people with similar values and interests. Making friends is not an instant process, it takes time. But you will fill your life with people who are open and caring and wish to make a difference NOW. As a JW I put off any feeling of compassion toward my fellow. Taught to shrug them off to Jehovah Will. Also my own creative interests were pushed aside until "the new system" then I would have time to paint and grow a garden. I joined a local Bonsai study club and met some nice people. After 4yrs I am now the president of the club and the nice people are Great Friends. We each have our own pieces but we also volunteer time to our local Arboretum and Parks. My plan in retirement is to sell my large home and devote my time to a Public Garden. We offer childrens programs, wildlife conservation and education, elder exercise program. I have discovered that people are kind and caring and reach out to help their neighbors NOW! Not wait until some dreamy New World after the wicked 7Billion die so I can paint and grow a garden.

by Think About It inyou've seen or heard about the ripley's believe it or not museums, where different weird & wacky items are displayed from human culture.

maybe the wts could open one up it's own historical museum in brooklyn to make some big money.

I will learn someday how to post pictures but not today. I have a picture of myself wearing a Sandwich Board advertising a convention Sunday talk. I remember loving to wear those things all over downtown Long Beach CA when I was very little. My mom would hold the magazines and my sister and I would wear the sandwich boards and hand out the handbills. A fond and weird memory.

Believe it or not, i tried to start a sort of historical museum in our KH 2nd school library. This was before the RBC had all the say and we were remodeling our hall and I was asked to be on the decorating committee. Well not ON since I was a Seester, no way but the Bro consulted with me. We had a lot of old timers who had been colporters with the record players and big collections of the old Washtowels. Some had the Cross on them. I had some of the old magazines framed and the record player all shined up. Even had some old placards and convention bumper stickers mounted. It was beautiful collection. We hung it and all the dubs loved it. Then the CO came around and without a word to me the whole thing was taken down and never to be seen again. No explaination and I was given the LOOK of Do Not Ask Questions.

District Assembly Vehicle Parking Passes: $5.00
by Calebs Airplane ini've been out for a few years now, but when i was in, we frequently had to purchase "vehicle parking passes" several weeks before the start of our district assembly (depending on the coliseum or stadium being rented at the time).
it was usually $5.00 and you were given a 10" x 4" (or so) card with the assembly title/theme printed on.
according to the instructions from a branch letter that was read out loud (usually at the end of the service meeting), this card had to be placed on the right side of your dashboard such that the dub parking attendants can easily see it as you drive through the parking entrance.

We attended the Tacoma Conventions for years. Yes we paid, rather "contributed" for a parking pass months in advance. Much of the Service Meeting was taken up to go over the proper order for attending the convention from reserving a room, wearing the ID and not the least of which, How To Park. All this per the spirit directed FDS
Another wild parking issue was the year they parked us in like sardines. No In/Out byways. We were instructed to go directly to our cars after concluding prayer in order to show love and consideration. We knew it was a plot to keep us from leaving early. We parked outside the dome lot the next two days.

Single Malt Whiskey. A preference?
by LoisLane looking for Superman ini am not a drinker but i hear single malt whiskeys are good.. yesterday at the liquor store, i asked a nice man, who also was looking over the bottle display, if he could tell me which one does he prefer and why.
one of the store clerks, came by, listening, and said she preferred the same bottle.. i bought the one they preferred:.

Can't imagine a more lovely host gift than a 12yr Glenmorangie. Coincidentlly I am sipping a wee dram now but the port cask matured. If they are Scots they should be delighted with the compliment. My post is late so I hope you are enjoying a nip right now. It should be poured neat, observe the color, swirl it and smell, inhale the flavors. You should smell notes of smoke, tobacco and salt with a little sweetness from the sautern. Taste it and swish is all over your mouth before you swallow, even chew it a bit. Then add a few drops of water and look to see the 'serpent' in the glass as the water mixes with the alcohol. Called 'releasing the serpent' sometimes it is better with water, sometimes not.
Ok this is only if you want an interesting prolonged scotch experience. You can also pour is over ice and just Enjoy. Goes great with pecan pie, IMO. Before, during and After dinner.
If you are new to single malts but would like to explore I recommend the Glenlivet Nadurra. Very smooth like velvet. I prefer more smoky/peaty drink but the Nadurra is a good place to start. These are ALL very dear $$ to buy so don't you dare add a mixer or I'll kill ya!
If you are ever in Seattle stop into Whisky Bar. They offer several dozen hard to find whiskys. I like to try a new one each time to cross off my list.

a little disappointed this morning since I was looking forward to our survivors meetup in Big Sur. We did use all the good dishes and poured the best and oldest whisky last night so that was fun.

Designs; ok, got it. Ocean, hot springs and clothing optional. The old man and I will hunker down for a few days, then take the back roads. May pick up a few friends along the way. You get Dagney, we will need her management skills. I will cook, you do the solar power, the old man can fix anything and if the kids make it we will be set for dramatic entertainment. Ready to Rock and Roll if and when.
