As a Beatlemanic, John Lenon greatly influence my thinking process. The song IMAGINE actually helped me understand that spirituality and Religion are NOT the same thing. I even used it in a MS student talk #4, when we were allowed to make up our own settings and use outside reference material.

Has the song, "IMAGINE" become more than just a song?
by journey-on inthis song is my favorite all-time song.
though simple, when i hear it, it goes right to something deep in my core.. it has almost become scriptural.
that is a discussion in and of itself.

I do know there is a Do Not Call list that can be attached to the territory map. The pubs are not to call but the elders are supposed to call once a year to see if the householder still feels the same.
But did you read the 3rd Dear Abby letter about the guy who bought his wife a wheelbarrow? And he didn't understand why she wasn't speaking to him...? what a Hoot!

Stupid Knorr! Should Witnesses have Sunday school just for kids?
by Witness 007 inimagine sitting thru the watchtower study on a sunday with your 6 year old and 9 year old kids....the topic "fornication" the discussion explains how oral sex and touching of genitals is still fornication...why do kids have to sit thru this??
or the bible reading is about lot having sex with his daughters....this type of thing is not for kids!
and why should kids be forced to sit quietly while someone drones on for 2 hours?.

I raised 4 ....FOUR.....children to be Perfect Little JW's. All wore little suits, ties, and dresses that covered their little knees. They all enrolled in the TMS by 6yrs and were giving Bible readings on a soap box. Talk about GUILT.....well, I'm over it now and have apologized to these dear children.
If we could go back I would have them on soccor teams and science club, music lessons and art school. What a waste of youth. They all rebeled by 15 and two were DF'd before their 18th. It was a disaster and I still get sick in the pit of my stomach as I recall that horrid time.
I do not see the Borg developing any type of Sunday School or Youth Programs ever. They view their unity as a badge of TRUTH. The boast of the 3yr, 14 yr and 75yr all on the same page. It's is stupid, absolutly STUPID !

Why does guilt often remain so long with those who've left the JWs?
by And He Ran ini would be interested in getting people's input in why so many jws - including me from time to time, though less so now - seem to be burdened by guilt after they've left, even after they've successfully faded and aren't being hassled by family or elders.
is it a residual leftover of the indoctrination over the years?
i welcome your comments.

Anger, rage and guilt are symtoms of Grief. There area specific phases of grief that must be experiences before we can move toward healing. Each person is unique as to how long these phase will last and education of the issues is a great help. Gary's research is a good example of making it through the process.
We grieve over more than the death of a loved one. The loss of a core belief is also cause for grieving. As you read each poster here, some are sad, some angry, some numb but we have all lost something that at one time was at the center of our lives.
Talking and expressing feelings is very helpful in getting over the guilt phase. Thank goodness for JWD, I really feel it is a Healing Place.
May Peace be with each and every one of you.

Horoscopes/star signs
by HB ina friend who is an intelligent high-flying business woman is going through a relationship break-up and is also recovering from breast cancer.
she is not religious but has been turning to 'new-age' beliefs to try to help her cope, (she has visited a numerologist and had her palm read).
she has just sent me an email with a description of 12 different personalities based on star signs.

I am not into horoscopes at all but I did have an interesting experience a few weeks back. I was shopping in a crowed kitchen shop in Seattle Pike Place Market and a man began chatting with me.....something something, you look fabulous' At first I thought he was just hitting on me but for some reason I felt comfortable and continued talking about cooking. Then he said 'I'll bet I can guess your sign' Ok.....he proceedes to discribe me perfectly and that I am Gemini. Correct. It could have been a lucky guess but the traits were so right on. Even down to the books I like to read and that I am easily entertained, never bored, not really a people person, like to work alone, individual sports, family is important but I am not a clinging parent, etc. It was very eerie to have someone discribe me perfectly.
He gave me his card, yep, he was an astrologer and does charts and all that....I have no idea.....but he sure was spot on so maybe there is something to it.
Since leaving the borg, I am open to many ways of looking at life. I have always felt an energy from nature, stones and minerals so planets and stars may effect us at some level also.

where to go in LA area?
by tsar_robles inhi gals and guys,.
i noticed there are quite a few of you that reside in the la area.... so i'd like to get some feedback about where to go & what to do in the la area; i'll be taking my family there in a week!.
our budged only allowed us to book a nice hotel in the san fernando area (sylmar) which i have noticed is on the edge of the metro area... thus i hope there are hov lanes or something to that effect to avoid the famous traffic jams.... besides from the best routes to take to get around town, my wife and i have a couple more questions on tips for the main attractions, such as disneyland, best beaches to visit, good moderate priced restaurants, celeb sightseeings (lol) and anything else that i can keep my family entertained with.. i've been to san pedro pier on one ocassion but that's about it... any feedback or tips are welcomed!.

hey you guys are making me hungry. I want chopped liver on rye with a martini right now. OK, I'll have to wait a couple of weeks.
Yes, Nate+Als is a great place to see celebraties. I ate many sandwiches sitting next to Dean and Dino Martin, Don Rickles, Don Knotts, Barbara Eden, so many I can't remember, um, because of course it was 'back in the day' Also lots of faces you recognized but don't know the name.
Canters is near Farmers Market, which I have not been to in years but it was a fun area to walk around. Not as high end as Rodeo and Beverly Dr.
The waitesses at both places are a Hoot! They do not take any guf and they TELL you what to order. At first you think they are rude and then they give you extra pickles and go check to see if the roast beef is rare enough. They are a breed all their own.
Another fun thing I do with my son when I am visiting is bike ride the beach. We ride in OC around the Huntington Beach area but Venice Beach and Manhatten Beach are great too. I'm sure there are places to rent bycycles. Just a great thing to do with kids and not expensive. You really must spend some time at the beach. I hear so many people say they did all the theme parks and tourist places but didn't get to the beach. You just have to take your kids in the water, jump the waves, they will never forget it.

I am a true Dylanist, so I love everything he does. From guitar and harp to the turn of a phrase. I find his voice poetic and moving. Sorry to hear you think others do his songs better. You should try 'Time Out Of Mind', the lyrics are amazing.
I loved his early stuff but just like us, he is getting better with age.

Long list= Brothers who have ripped you off! $$$ has this happened to you?
by Witness 007 in1. the elder i was in a bissness with decided a hand shake was not a contract, and paid me $500 dollars instead of the $3,000 he should have....i felt so stupid, but quit with him and treated him like a disfellowshiped person since....also he would pay me half a days wage when i worked from 8am till 3pm ???????
when told about this he said sorry but "couldn't work out how to re-emburse the lost hours.".
2. my elderly mum sold some furniture when moving, to a sister who promised to pay from her single parent pension in small installments........nope!

We have a janitorial business so I could go on and on about rip-off stories. Everything from hiring 'pioneers' with poor work performance to them stealing the soap dispensers. Even backstabbing us by underbidding jobs and taking over.
And we had a friend in the carpet business. He would sell carpet for Kingdom Halls at his cost, not make a dime. In fact did not cover his own expensise of S+H, and overhead. An elder ordered carpet for his KH and included enough yardage for his own home at that price. When he was confronted he blew it off so our friend went to the CO and he blew it off also. They were of a mind that the brother in business could make it up on another customer. Evidently this was standard practice for lots of building supplies. When a Quick Build is setting up, lots of supplies go missing and unaccounted for.
We all know this goes on in 'the world' but these guys call themselves better than 'the world'. Just another case of rampant hypocrisy.

Hey do you know about the Johnny Lee Hooker, JW connection. He had a JW gal friend I think and lots of LA area JW hung out with him back in the day.
Hey Dagney, are you out there, tell us the story....I forget
One of my all time faves of any style is Eric. Mr Slow Hand was very influenced by very early bluesmen. At least one of his CDs is on my disc player at all times.
