What are the best Bible Translations?
by Londo111 ingrowing up in a jw family, my parents and my grandparents had many versions of the bible...not just the new world translation.
sometimes i read these.
but i always bought the hype that the new world translation was the most unbiased and most consistent in rendering hebrew and greek into the modern language.

What Are Your Hobbies Now That You're Out?
by lilbluekitty ini've been getting really into cooking lately!
i do have most of the same hobbies i had before, (i've always been into art and reading and watching movies and travelling) only now i can do them whenever and don't have to worry about meetings getting in the way or people telling me i spend too much time with "recreation.

Welcome and Congratulations on your first post here. You made a very big step in the right direction, vent and let it all out. I too was raised in the 'troof' and stuck with it for far too long, 50+ yrs.....O M G!!!! I gave them the best years of my life. Thank goodness you are young and thinking for yourself. All the suggested websites and books here are amazing and will clear up all the doubts and questions you have been holding in. Share all the information with your husband, talk and express yourself here. Be tactful with family, they are victims too. Show love and consideration yet confidant in your own experience.
I will share my best advise; Live, Love and Laugh, see the world and your own backyard, find joy and be curious NOW and Everyday.

Did being raised a JW give you a higher moral code?
by cantleave ini have noticed something interesting at work recently.. i don't want to go into too much detail, but our new owners have introduced a customer contract that is so one sided that it is technically unethical although not legally.
i don't like it and won't sell it.. i asked the jw's where i work what they thought of this contract.. to my surprise only 2 are troubled by the nature of this contract (both young and quite wishy washy in the "truth").. the others didn't seem concrened at all and would be happy to tie customers into it, after it all secures the company's finances.. the interesting thing is almost all the "worldly" members of staff feel the same way as as me.. i thought my reservations were due to my jw upbringing - obviously not!.

JW version of a 'high moral code' is a superficial, no sex outside of marriage. I do not recall the word 'ethical' ever being defined. It was all just 'no touchy' and make sure those singles have a chaperone. So much enphases was put on fornacation and pornea that is where our minds went, simple body function. We were not taught to develope our minds let alone a ethical code of conduct. Just do your job, don't ask questions, don't cause a scene unless they ask you to give blood. Any place you work is going to be a den of Satan worshipers so just keep to yourself, don't rock the boat unless they are manufacturing light bulbs for the military, well then you are going to have to quit, get married at 17, pioneer and let you husband figure out how to pay the rent by washing windows.
I worked in an art gallery when I first learned the word 'plagiarism'. The gallery director taught me more about ethical behavior in life and relationships than 40yrs of being a JW ever had.
