It doesn't even matter....all a higher post# or status indicates is how much a person talks. There is no indication of whether or not they have anything worthwhile to say. Think about people in real life.....more often than not, it is the people who talk alot who really have nothing to say....

The psychology of internet posting
by onacruse inkate and i were having a discussion (with some differences of opinion .
what if there were no "total posts" listed under your screen name?
what if there were no such tags as "newbie, junior, senior, etc., etc., etc.," or "forum assistant, administrator.".

A question for all Whisky drinkers.
by lfcviking inhello chumz on the board.
nothing really to do with jwism but who prefers the american 'bourbon' type such as 'wild turkey', 'jim beam' etc or who prefers a fine single malt scotch such as 'glenfiddich' or 'glenmorangie'?
i am not trying to stir up nationalism with this question but am just genuinely curious.. lfcv.

LOVE, ALTRUISM & EVOLUTION
by Dansk ini'm an evolutionist.
one cannot argue that evolution isn't a fact.
however, i'd be interested in the better informed amongst us here explaining in simple terms how the feeling of love evolved.

Dansk:
Again, I am not disputing that evolution happens and has been tested and proven to be a law of nature....I am simply pointing out that it is regarded as fact but is in actuality a scientific theory. You seem to think that because I am adhering to the scientific method's definitions of theories and facts, that I am somehow disputing that evolution occurs...this is not the case. Evolution does occur. That does not make it a scientific fact.

I have homosexual tendencies and same sex attraction to a degree, but gay sex itself does not turn me on. I can only fully enjoy sex with a woman, but yet the attraction part is still there. Therefore what does this make me? Bi?.
Umm...Dude, get a grip....It doesn't make you anything other than human. Everyone, and I mean everyone is a little bit butch and a little bit mary. You say you can only fully enjoy sex with a woman, then there you go...pretty straightforward answer to me (assuming you've tried sex with a man)...the point is, don't worry about what to label your self, just go with what feels right to you.

Evolution is a scientific theory, not a fact.
Theory, in science, is not theory as used in a general sense (confusing, I know). The theory of evolution is accepted as FACT! Do you deny evolution?
If you read my entire post you should find that I do not deny evolution. The difference between Scientific theory and general theory is not confusing and I take offence that you seem to beleive that I am confused.
A fact is something that can be proven to be unconditionally true
A general theory carries the connotation of a hypothesis...that is, something that has been posited to be true but has not been tested.
A scientific theory is an interperetation of facts that has been supported by using the scientific method, but the theory is left open ended and is subject to possible revision.
You cannot revise a fact, therefore a scientific theory (e.g. evolution) is not a fact. It is accepted as fact, but based on the scientific method, it is not actually one.

I'm an evolutionist. One cannot argue that evolution isn't a fact. However, I'd be interested in the better informed amongst us here explaining in simple terms how the feeling of love evolved. It is a fact that animals can display altruism. Some dogs, for example, have laid down their lives for their masters. Animals have also been seen to show examples of compassion, fidelity, grief, unselfishness, affection, gratitude and acting the Good Samaritan.
For some time now, I have been pondering human relationships, i.e. how some are based purely on sex and others on love (there are also other reasons, such as companionship, etc.). After 28 years I am still passionately in love with my wife. Claire is my rock and my reason for living. Where does this love come from? If it is an evolutionary aspect how did it come about? Humans alone "seem" to be the only species capable of such feelings. You know what I mean, we seem to connect with that special someone and it seems lightening runs through our veins. Can any other creature feel this?

Evolution is a scientific theory, not a fact.
Animals have also been seen to show examples of compassion, fidelity, grief, unselfishness, affection, gratitude and acting the Good Samaritan.
And you're wondering how humans evolved the feeling of love? You play fetch with a dog, the dog loves you. Your woman plays hide the salami with you, you love her. Love is a feeling that evolved in order to attract humans together to ensure the survival of the speceis.
Humans alone "seem" to be the only species capable of such feelings.
You already said that other animals have been observed showing similar human emotions. You've negated your own statement.
You know what I mean, we seem to connect with that special someone and it seems lightening runs through our veins
There's no such thing as "that special someone"....It's just a combination of dopamine being released in your brain and your own psychological predispositions that give you that feeling. I'm glad you love you wife because there isn't enough of that around....but don't think it's anything more than a biology party.

Are parents allowed in their teenagers judicial meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ina 16 year old girl was recently disfellowshipped from my congregation.
i was told by some busybodies that she had a ''wordly'' boyfriend and that she committed fornication.now she sits home alone while her parents attend 3 meetings per week.. my questions are:did the elders meet with the parents first to let them know what the offense was?
were her parents told what the judicial meeting would be about and how it works?

Frannie:
they have the LEGAL right to be present during the
interrogationquestioning of said minor child and to call of the inquiry, as they see fit.Not quite true....It would be true if the questioning were in a legal setting as in being questioned by the police, however since it takes place within a religious tribunal (JC) this doesn't apply and the child can legally be subjected to the conventions of the tribunal.

Lurkers and JWs: Are you in the truth?
by AuldSoul injesus said, "i am the way, the truth, and the life.
" he didn't say he had the way, or that he had the truth, or that he had the life.. according to the bible, jesus is the truth; if you know the truth, the truth will set you free.. jehovah's witnesses set their dogma and religion in the place of jesus.
they refer to their dogma and religion by a role that jesus said he would personally fulfill; they call it "the truth.".

According to the Bible, Jesus IS the truth; if you know the truth, the truth will set you free.
If "the truth" = "a man"....then the bible is correct. A man who died two thousand years ago can't set anyone free. You're only as free as your mind is open.

My boyfriend is a JW and we want to get married but I want him to get OUT
by blueday ini'm am so heart broken to see my boyfriend with so many internal strugles.
he is a good man, a good god fearing man and this is why it has been so difficult for him to leave the jw's religion.
we love each other so much and we want to be married but he fears the consequences of marring somebody who is not a jw.

The important thing is that he decides for himself what he will do...Stay a JW or not...The fact that he is dating a catholic is an indication that he doesn't put as much stock in the religion that he is supposed to. But if he decides to stay a witness, I wouldn't marry him unless you and he have an understanding that you will not force your beleifs on one another. That prolly won't work because you seem to want him out. Expressing this to him will more likely than not push him back in because this is what the society tells him to expect from worldly people.
Basically, let him decide first...and then address the issue of whether or not to be married. If he stays with it, the marriage will have significant friction that most people find too dificult to live with. In this case, I'd advise against it.
Quick question, though....If you don't want your BF to be a JW, then why did you start dating him?
