JWs - the Next Generation
by Olin Moyles Ghost inmy peer group (post-1975 born-in jws) seems to approach the jw religion in a different manner than earlier generations.
now, these folks still believe the wts is "the truth" and if you say anything that sounds "apostate" they start freaking out.
but, make no mistake, these jws are not your parents' witnesses.

Do active JW's on this forum still practice shunning?
by Thechickennest injust wondering if active jw's on this forum or jw's just watching this board still put into practice in one way or another, shunning?.
what is the motivation do so?
is it to save face or relationships?

if i see a df'd person i know at the meeting or on the streets i make a point to talk to them to let them know someone still knows they're alive and still have friends, consequences be damned.

BBQ Advice
by Peppermint infor many years i have held bbq's in derision.
i am not one for social norms and have a general fear of succumbing to pleasant suburban society.
maybe i harbour this dislike because a jw once told me that he imagines the new system as a never ending bbq.

use a chimney starter and a couple pieces of paper dabbed with a little cooking oil and use only natural hard lump charcoal, any "briquette" is full of chemicals and binders and doesn't burn as hot. now you can smoke on a weber but it's no wood fired vertical cabinet smoker. theres lots of information online about smokers and grills i suggest doing some research to find what best fits your needs. sorry if i came off like a know-it-all but i'm EXTREMELY passionate about "bbq". if you want some winning sauce recipes let me know, i'm always happy to spread the info.

it's not a priority in my life but I love have a nice fine aged rum(zaya, mount gay XO, appleton 21, etc.) neat or on the rocks every couple of nights. it tends to relax my muscles enough to be somewhat comfortable. but I don't like to get drunk at all, it's too much work for not enough pleasure.

WHAT MADE YOU LEAVE? Doctrine or people?
by chuckyy inhi.. just wondering what made you take the final leap out of the org?
was it doctrinal in that certain things just didnt add up or was it because of the actions of people in the org.
that made you leave?

the people following the doctrine only when it suited them. I'm a very black and white person and that is something I cannot stand, religion or otherwise. even if it were the truth I couldn't be a part of it knowing the way those people are. that attitude doesn't net me the most friends in life but makes the ones I have genuine which is what matters to me.

Prediction: Poorest attended DC's in recent history in 2008
by oompa inpeople in the usa are changing their eating habits already, and their driving habits of course.
there are many fairly poor jw's in this country, many with no health insurance, old clunker cars and just barely getting by.
the cost of so many things is getting ready to explode, especially consumables.....all delivered by ship, train, plane, and truck.
