The typical drone. So entrenched in defending the WT at all costs, he's got no idea what he's saying. He's not ready.

Former Witness Friend Tries to " Encourage " Me Back to Meetings
by flipper inso it seemed simple enough.
i had heard about this former witness friend of mine ( late 1980's to early 1990's ) having gone through a divorce from his pioneer wife 2 years ago.
long story short- he had been an elder , wife had the jc elders wrapped around her finger - finally the evidence came out she committed adultery and she was dfed.

I always thought JW's were courteous until I thought about it. My courtesy was partly due to my upbringing and partly due to a "be a good witness" mindset at the time. Weren't we all made to feel very conscious of being polite so that others would be attracted to the "truth"? So as not to bring reproach on Jehovah etc?
I would say in the main, yes they're courteous, but always with that agenda.
That is, they're courteous to other people, not to me, I don't exist.

My JW Life... (LONG)
by silent ini never, ever thought i would ever be posting on a board such as this but here i am.
i've been reading the boards for several months and despite my initial conscience twinges, i couldn't help but follow a logical thought process on many issues that were causing me grief.
over this past week, due to the things i've read on here, i've had a massive cloud lift from me and i'm starting to feel joy and love in my heart that i've *never* felt before.

Hi Silent and welcome to the board! I have really enjoyed reading your story which I can SO relate to in many areas. One thing that seems to stand out in your thoughts is your complete change of motive in your worship. You have a different reason for serving God, not fear of armageddon, but out of love, and I think THAT is absolutely paramount here.
One thing the GB don't inspire in people is the right motive to serve. In many instances they are guilted into doing more, or feared into it.
One thing Ray Franz says in his book "iN Search of Christian Freedom" is,
"That Organizational affiliation cannot gain us a favorable judgment is also seen in that we are judged, not by our adherance to organizational rules and directives but "by the law of freedom" That law of freedom is the "royal law" the "supreme law" the "sovereign law" and it is the law of love. We need to ask ourselves continually whether what we do, the very attitudes we take, are genuinely founded in love." pg 637-638
If you haven't read this book yet, I recommend you get it. The chapter on "a congregation of free people" was particularly helpful to me and I'm sure you'd enjoy it too.
Congratulations on coming this far

No One Should Be Made to Choose ..LIES from July 09 Awake
by Hopscotch inthe following quote is taken from the article is it wrong to change your religion?
in the july 2009 awake p29:
no one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family.

Exactly Scully!
There is no way an article like this will bring down their power base, its not big enough of a scandal to do that. But on an individual basis the double standard is clear to even the average person, the reaction of my work colleagues showed me that. One of my colleagues was getting to know a JW mum at school and was thinking of making a friend of her, going for coffee etc.... saying she was really friendly etc. When I showed her the articles, she was really shocked at the contrast between the public JW face, and the private one. Once I explained that there is always an agenda for a Witness to make friends with her, she said "that's it - I'm backing off".
If we can use this opportunity to show how blatantly dishonest the WT really is, then it not only protects people from being suckered in by their public "niceness" but may help family being shunned too.
Anyway, thats my take on it. I love it when the WT gives us opportunities like this, their own stupidity and arrogance will be their eventual downfall. But meanwhile I'm gonna just keep using what they give us. Sweet.

Can You Think of Examples *Proving* JWD/JWN Fulfills Bible Prophecy?
by minimus inthe watchtower organization claims to fulfill most bible prophecy.
they are the greater elijah, the fulfillment of obscure scriptures and so forth.. i was thinking jwd/jwn could do the same!
for example, there is the scripture that speaks of the beast ascending into the abyss and coming out.

How about
"Get out of her my people"

I took this article into work today to show my colleagues along with the relevant paragraphs from the "How to treat a disfellowshipped person" appendix studied 2 weeks ago at the meeting. I explained that the Awake article was for the public and the appendix material was for Jehovahs Witnesses. I wanted to show them the Awake because they may be offered it on their doorstep.
They were gobsmacked at the opposite statements made. One of my colleagues actually couldn't believe that JW's would be that devious. I explained that the public face can be very different to the private one and only when they've convinced you its the truth do you find out whats really involved.
All in all they were pretty disgusted and vowed to send them packing if they called at their door.
So, a result.

Good letter Matt and a "G" for use of questions. Lets hope your brother responds positively. If you don't get an answer, you'll at least have made him think about what he's doing.
Let us know if it does and good won't you?

The Casual Importance of JW elders
by BonaFide inso here is one thing i have noticed, and i bet i was like this before myself.. so many jw elders have a sort of "casual importance" attitude at the meetings.
they nod a lot, they have those huge bookbags, they read those society letters during the meetings, they walk down the aisles during the meeting and whisper in each others' ear, they always sit in the aisle seats.
they give the appearance that what they are doing is the most important thing in the world.. even the way they stand, and their manner of speaking reflects that they feel important, but that they are "trying" to be humble even though jehovah god himself is using them.. for example, tonight before the meeting i was talking to an elder about the upcoming assembly.

Yep, thats it Outlaw! The elders posture because thats all they have! They're little men with an "important" respected position, looked upon by the rest of the congregation as spiritual big-guns.
Without that "elder" title they're smallfry like the rest of us. Like little boys in big hats, they think they're important but just look silly.
