Matt You've done a very courageous thing by recording this and it deserves to be heard by as many as possible. I'm often in "discussion" with JW's on the BBC website. When the subject comes up, i'll post the link to your podcast to show a wide audience just how duplicitous a JC can be.

Have any of you had the experience of listening to a Witness' sad story, and not being able to tell them, ITS BECAUSE YOU ARE IN A CULT!?
by BonaFide intonight i went out with some witnesses for coffee.
one is an elder, and the others are pioneers, etc.
two of them had a sad story of how other elders had treated them lately, and one talked about how the elders in her hall won't give her any assignments.

Have you read Steve Hassan's Releasing the Bonds Bonafide? He'll give you an idea on how to proceed with these sort of conversations without raising red flags.
Things like, "I once knew this girl from work that felt like this. She was continually treated like a child by her boss and told to do the obvious. In the end she was so depressed and demeaned at being controlled like that, that she left and found another job"
By talking about "work" and not JW's directly, you can make the point and leave them to draw the necessary conclusions themselves without directly criticising the Org and raising the red flags.
The book might just give you the tools to do this.

Recently disfellowshipped prominent Assembly overseer in Western Europe now speaking out against the Watchtower org.
by the research lady informer elder, and assembly overseer roberto from france will be joining barbara and joe anderson on tonight's conference call, july 18,2009. roberto was disfellowshipped in june 2009 and after many faithful years of service is now joining thousands of others who are speaking out against the evils of the watchtower organization.
our call tonight will be focused on how the country of france, as well as other european countries are investigating jehovah's witnesses.
the watchtower organization is experiencing difficulties in these countries for the inhumane treatment and exerting too much control over people's lives.

I would like to know if you have succeeded in helping your friends or family SLOW DOWN in their zeal as a JW
by BonaFide ini have read thousands of posts on this forum, and i am finding with all your experiences that however hard we try, it's difficult to actually get a family member or friend to disassociate themselves.
after all, some of us are still "active jw's", right?.
but, i have been noticing that some seem to have accomplished enough with questions and comments that at least their family members or friends are less active as jw's.

Hi BF
Its been a slow process but one success with my JW mum has been in her thinking. She has seen how the shunning has affected me and her 9 year old grandson and its made her alot less defensive of the local Witnesses. She's also much quicker in finding an excuse not to get to meetings too. If any of the family happen to be visiting, the meeting is the last place you'll find her. Dad tries to keep her on the straight and narrow but she's a strong lady whose recently fought cancer and I think she's realised just how precious her family is to her and she's not going to let the Org get in the way of our relationship. I'll always be grateful for that.
So, even though the shunning has been tough, its been worth it to see my mum slow down.
I'd also like to encourage you to keep doing what you're doing. Don't get put off by the seeming lack of immediate results, you can't rush these things. You're planting seeds of doubt and thats important. When those seeds germinate it'll be you that'll be the most approachable to ask further questions of and you they'll feel safe with.
First of all though, are YOU convinced its not the truth? How do YOU feel about the Organization? How has this affected your faith or belief in the bible? Do you understand that Jesus brought freedom from rules and do you want this for yourself and your friends? If your not sure, read Galatians,
Once you work out where your head is in all of this for yourself, then you're in a better place to help others. But look after yourself first!
love BZ

My Assignment For Ray Franz
by sacolton intoday i met the widow of ed dunlap, who was of the watchtower writing committee and a great thinker.
he found that the watchtower was not in harmony with the scriptures, so they disfellowshipped him.
when ray franz was disfellowshipped, it was ed who took him in and gave ray a job and a place to stay.

its lovely to hear Ed's widow is being taken care of Sacolton and thanks for being able to do this. When I read COC I got the impression that Ray had a huge amount of respect and admiration for Ed and that made me admire the man too. I only wish distance didn't prohibit a more practical assistance.
Is there anything I can do from the UK? Would she appreciate a letter or card from a wellwisher or would that be too much for her? I wouldn't expect a reply but just to let her know how appreciative I am of her and her husband and the courage they both showed. Please PM me an address if you think this'll be ok.

How many lives have been RUINED by the Organization? Experiences?
by BonaFide ini think that some people deserve to be excommunicated, such as pedophiles.
but what about the tens of thousands of others that have their life wrenched out from under them by being disfellowshipped?.
and what about those that have a family member that died because of not receiving a blood transfusion?

The sense of failure the Organization gave me was so acute that I nearly took my own life. The depression was so deep that to not feel the guilt of seeing my sons and husband dying at armageddon after they left was very attractive. So I took as many paracetamol tablets as I can find. Lucky I'm still here to write this.
ruined my life? No, not ruined, not totally. Just damaged. Damage thats going to take a long time to repair, but it'll mend slowly.
