OH YES!

There are quite a few brothers in our area that had businesses. One was a big name in real estate and loved the sports cars. He'd often be seen in his Porsche or Jag. He owned both and has a palatial farmhouse. I used to clean house for this brother and his family. One day another elder was also working there as a builder. The elder came up to me and said mr rich bro is "a jumped up little shit". I laughed my head off! In Ryde Cong on the Isle of Wight UK, Many bro's were in business and had very expensive cars and seriously big houses. Their wives used to come to the kingdom hall dressed in very expensive designer dresses and shoes. It caused alot of bitchiness as they were clearly trying to outdo each other.

Pathetic.

Partaking of the emblems at home - need thoughts/experiences please

Last year was the first year I hadn't attended the memorial. I wasn't even invited. So on the morning after (still Nisan 14) I quietly went and sat on my garden bench just to reflect on what Jesus had done for me. I took a glass of wine and bread and ate and drank as he had asked us too.

It did feel a bit strange but it also felt right. By partaking I was finally doing what what the bible said.

I really don't think it matters how often you do this. Didn't Jesus say "KEEP doing this in remembrance of me"? He didn't add, "Just once a year, on passover". He didn't make a rule about it. So remember as often as you wish.

Please Share Your Experiences of Jehovah's Witnesses Shunning You

I am shunned every day. There is a group of witness mums at my son's primary school that I see every morning. Initially I started to say hi to them as I had done every morning. They shuffle past me looking at their shoes. One sister has even shouted in the school at me because I said hello to her. It hurt - it hurt so much that I ended up on anti-depressants and sleeping pills just to be able to cope with "running the gauntlet" up the school drive every day.

Now I no longer bother saying hello. They have shown themselves for who they really are and I'll not waste my breath on the bitches. The funny thing is, I am very well known and well liked by all the teachers.. 3 of my 4 boys have already gone through that school.

When they saw how I was being treated, they were disgusted and won't personally have anything to do with witnesses.

THe same thing happened at my place of work. I barista for a well known coffee shop and sisters would often come in for their coffee after field service. They treated me as if I was something nasty they'd stepped in. Of course all my workmates saw this and were just as disgusted with them as the teachers were. Several of them said when the witnesses next call at their homes, they're gonna tell them to get stuffed.

So at least their behaviour has given a VERY bad witness to many people.

i know that the society frowns on internet use....but there has to be some out there.

i know several years ago i looked at several sites that had forums with lots of active and strong jw's.

Alarming statement in today's study article in WT...

" this in the context of a wt discussing the israelites' exodus from egypt and how jehovah had them into a position where there seemed "no way out".

Its a reference to Jim Jones and the tragedy of 1978 in Jonestown Guyana. All the followers were required to drink Kool-aid laced with cyanide (?).

we have not been in the org for over 10 years now but still see the old jw's around and about.

one particular couple we used to be fairly friendly with we bumped into the other night as they are doing a course at the college my hubby lectures at.

they were never the strongest of couples but have kept going cos of their family i suppose.

Perhaps it might be best to start cautiously, even letting the other couples bring the subject up first then you can guage how their thinking. Or you could just ask them what made them stop going and take your cue from their answer.

I really hope that the conversation develops so you can express yourself freely, even sharing info about the society their not aware of.

Any ex witness that has just left the JW's during 2007/08 tell us why?

Hi

I left about 8 months ago after 21 years a Witness. The main reason was a very gradual opening of my eyes to a certain inconsistancy. I could never figure out why it was our "sacred duty" to follow what the Governing Body said, yet they claimed to be infallible. First I tried to dismiss the inconsistancy and thought I was just too dumb to get it. But it gradually bothered me to such an extent (especially after the April 07 WT) that I decided to investigate their claim of being the faithful and discreet slave class once and for all.

The only way I could do this was to go back to the beginning. I figured they must have been teaching something monumentally significant in 1919 to be chosen by Christ as their slave. So back I went. I read the proclaimers book and began to research the old books in the KH library. It still wasn't giving me a full picture of what it was really like for the witnesses back then.

Then I came across a WT quote. It said: "The Catholic Church occupies a very significant position in the world and claims to be the way of salvation for hundreds of millions of people. Any organization that assumes that position should be willing to submit to scrutiny and criticism.”—Awake magazine 22 Aug 1984 p.28

I thought, If that's true, then I should look at literature outside the Org. (a defiante no-no up to now) I reasoned if the Org is the truth, it had nothing to fear from a submission "to scrutiny and criticism".

I ordered Crisis of Conscience and Christian Freedom from Amazon. As you can imagine, I couldn't put them down, especially the chapter on the faithful and discreet slave in Christian Freedom.

I was blown away by the sheer amount of documented and checkable evidence Ray Franz presented in the books. And I did check it as far as I was able.

From then on I could see clearly that this Organization has no right to claim to be the spokesman of God based on Matt 24 v 45. Coupled that with the Scripture at Luke 21 v 8 and I knew for sure I was being warned to not follow this group any longer. I disassociated myself a short time after this and have NEVER been happier.

Thanks for your time in doing this. Its a big help in knowing how to refute my mum and dad who are still "in". They are totally baffled as to how I can know what they're studying before them!
