another thing that has been intriguing me lately is the idea that cults can help sway people towards a certain personality type more towards a judging personality for example, or becoming more feeling rather than thinking.

i know my meyers-briggs type changed from istj when i was a jw to intj after i left.

i was curious if anyone else was aware of a similar shift in their actual measurable personality traits..maybe putting on the new personality is literal?

Crazy Kids

just about a half an hour ago i'm in my kitchen cooking dinner and i look out my window.

my kitchen is in the back of my house and i can see the large retention pond from my window.

what do i see but four kids (2 girls and 2 boys) around my oldest son's age out on the ice.

My Bethel experience

because of the length of this, it will be done in two parts.

part 1. i when to bethel march 21,1970. at the time you had to be a pioneer for two years to apply, by the time i left in 1974 they were calling people in who had never pioneered..........average stay was 5 months ( they had signed up for 4 years)..........the reason they left was......well, it was hell.. one of the reasons was, knorr hated bethelites, but he loved the gilead students and why?

because when they screwed up they were thousands of miles away!........just before i got there, they had kicked out over 60!

Is it brainwashing?

i've had a bit of a semantic tousle with a member of this board on whether the coercive techniques used by the wtbts to obtain and retain members is "brainwashing".

i say "brainwashing" is not a good description of what goes on, i prefer "mind control", or coercive and deceptive techniques.

he argued to call it something less than "brainwashing" is to water down the destructive effects of the wts on it's members and former members.

... JGNAT : yep Mind control comes first it uses brainwashing
'Cause Mind control don't only use brainwashing (but also fear of retaliation or any personal or global perk/benefit and so on ...)

Where would we be now if there was never a concept of God?

if (for the sake of argument for those who believe in god) there was no god, and no human being who ever lived had ever come up with or even had a concept of god or a higher being.

where do you think we as human beings would be today.

what do you think our history would be like, and our future?

So from that the only difference in between unbelievers and believers is:

I can’t believe in God (the kind of God who should respond to our wills the wayI’m expecting)
I can believe in God because anyway there something bigger and it’s all about what we can agree with as being good enough to be understood as God's reason to just do things the way he knows will be relevant.
