Faith in God
by A Paduan inis "faith in god" a level of suspicion about existence ?
i postulate that it is not.. it was put forward in a thread above that jws must have had some 'faith in an unseen deity', but i reflected that they must have simply had a notion regarding the existence of another power, and that faith in someone reflects a belief in the quality of another, not just a suspicion of quantity.. jws normally do not have faith in the deity described in scripture and hence, in a confused fear, work in the attempt to appease and be accepted, not only misunderstanding love in general but misrepresenting the same to others.
the mandate for performance of works is a faith in the value of their own effort (and that there is likely a deity who is like a boss-man).. .

Are you a 'Life is Over-rated' or a 'life is what you make it' type person?
by needproof ini was wondering who out there is a 'life is what you make it' type person.
i must admit that i am a 'life is over-rated' type.
i don't wish to sound negative but how can you say to a kid born in war torn sudan 'oh, get over it... life is what you make it!'.

fifi40 : If we take the view of 'life is what you make it' then we are putting ourselves in a place which enables us to help others less fortunate than ourselves.
I agree, but only people who think about it regarding to success (in life) leads to that ... life is not about success life is about experiences ... But if you take this statement as a way to tell anyone if you do not succeed it's because you don't really want it or don't put enought effort in it ... it's unfair ... cause life do not work that way. Why? We are inter-dependant and anything can have an impact on what we are doing (and we do not lead everything/everyone - we just can't).

Thinking.
by Blueblades inthinking is difficult.
thinking is complex.
to think well is a laborious, often, painstaking process until one becomes accustomed to being " thoughtful.

it is a never-ending process (each information have its importance) but the base stays the main focus before to go further (you still have to find it out in each process and level because it's important to not missing the point and because it helps to follow the process of whatever do evoluate).

I'll also join Dansk on the matter
and to answer farest on the question (is life what you make it when you seems to not have the choice?) your spirit still have the choice to more focus on the pain or focus on joy.
When my son was ill under Chimio he was laughing as much as he could, not that he wasn't suffering he just still wanted to spend time laughing (he is a joker anyway). And by that even in knowing that something horrible could have happened the time I shared with him was very extra ordinary ... I do not remember him talking about death 1 time not 1 about himself but only others (even when for the first time he had to understand he had a serious sickness - that's the only time I remember him saying : If I'm gonna die your going to stay alone (weird he wasn't thinking about him leaving this word what he was afraid of is knowing that I would be alone).

Is Faith Dangerous? A Question for Believers...
by AllTimeJeff ini hope this will be as respectful a debate as possible.
here is the premise: many of us (most) seem to be ex jw's on this board.
that means, whatever your motivation, for a time you bought into the theology of jw to one degree or another.

Deputy Dog short answers but ...
what he says rejoin what Perry said
So, if we are certain that a lifestyle of loving your neighbor is one of the ultimate universal "truths" to live by and that helping the poor is another, and that allowing people free will with minimal restraints with respect to the wishes of the majority is still another, that will result in totalitarianism?
but What Narkissos wanted to say (I think) is that with the same motive you can go to war (it happens)
but then it is forgetting why people really get into war (and that's what people don't really know about before they get into war - desinformation helps a lot in being wrong = the false truth)
Eddited to add : that when Deputy Dog got all the points (Page 3)
1) To answer the question, faith is only dangerous to nonbelievers!
2) So what is your "faith" in?1 = you are not a reel believer if you do not believe in what is really important
2 = so if your faith is based on what is not important (you might get dangerous) -

it is said in so many ways in the bible ...
If I'm correct the only verse they use to support the idea of new light - is a Proverbe and as a proverbe it makes sens of course more you experience/lears things more it should become clear - it doesn't mean that they have to change - some do, some don't but in observing them you know which do and which don't.
The bible as ancient scriptures (all together) can't be change, it is already a real probleme for our generation to understand it - but the meaning (conceptually) about it says do not change along the time.
