  Why The Watchtower Wants Your Children ( 6/15 WT)

  of the governing body that the organization may be losing the next generation of jehovah's .

  witnesses.

  When have they EVER had anything useful for the younger people, aside from more service?

  For squirming toddlers enduring Brother Monotone's Sunday Public Address: What's in it for them? Aside from a good spanking if they get too fidgety.

  For elementary school level children, learning to read: What's it it for them? A book about Jesus that is never studied, never taken seriously, never a part of the BIG program.

  For Junior High students, the only way to fit in before baptism is to repeat by rote what you've heard since you were a squirming toddler, but now you can do it on the platform, and from door to door.

  The message is blindingly numbing, repeated over and over from the time you stopped wetting your diapers untill you start to think for yourself.

  As a result, the bright leave the JW's, the dullest of the dull stay.

  And all they have to offer the dull:

  Stop what you're doing and serve full-time.

  They deserve what they're getting, on both sides.

  Saddest cartoon episode?

  our kids love the simpsons and futurama but one episode of futurama is just soooo sad, i can barely watch it - it brings a lump to my throat every time!.

  the one with seymour, fry's fossilised dog that the professor is going to bring back to life.

  he decides not to do it because he thinks seymour lived a full life after he got frozen and will have forgotten him.. instead, the dog sat waiting for him all those years ... .

  Indianapolis 500

  any race fans out there????

  i watch this every year and was able to go once as a kid to the 500. .

  my grandfather raced cars(midgets) and once had a speed shop across from the 500 track and sold car engines and car parts.

  In 1995 Tony George used his control of the Indianapolis 500 to force a split in US open-wheel racing.

  Ten years on, and neither the IRL or Champ Car faction has prospered. The Champ Cars draw fans well at their established tracks, but can't acheive big-time TV contract status without the 500, Tony's IRL draws puny crowds anywhere other than the benchmark Indy 500, and has not become the feeder of American talent on Ovals only that he thought it would.

  Both series have had their lunch eaten by NASCAR, a series I don't understand the appeal of as the rules have kept the technology of the cars rooted in the 1950's ie: carberators, overhead valves, 4-speed gearboxes, live rear axles...etc. A modern pick-up truck is more technologically advanced than a NASCAR racer, but they are bringing the fans in by the hundreds of thousands for every race, go figure!

  The 500 will go on today, and I will watch it, I've followed the 500 since I was 10 years old, listening on an AM radio, and reading the racing newspapers.

  But it is not what it could have been, if track owner Tony George hadn't got ideas in his head that were too big for him.

  How could Jehovah alter his musical taste so much?

  someone told me that not so long ago it was to some extent unacceptable to listen to beatles music.

  but now it is rap and heavy metal that is distasteful to jehovah.

  i suppose it used to be rock&roll in the 1950s, and before that were bing crosby or glen miller the ones singing and playing the devil's music?

  Needle exchange opened today across from my shop

  i (we) are fuming, chilliwack is a small town outside vancouver , bout 100,000. our only needle exchange was ousted from their temporary spot to right across from my shop, i am a small nail/esthetics women only shop,,,,,needless to say i am livid, along with the senior condo ($180,000) owners across and beside.

  i, along with a retired prominent lawyer, and many businesses, a[t managers are going on an all out assault.

  it is called,,,o.c.t.

  orbisson, I wish your business all the success in the world. If you can't see how this clinic is a net plus for your community, give up aspirations of mayorhood.

  Who is telling you that you're business is gone in a month if a needle exchange happens to open up near you?

  Have you had any sort of meeting with the people who will actually run the exchange, attempted to determine their level of professionality? To understand the services they intend to provide?

  Have you enquired as to the success or failure of similar programs and their effect on local business, or are you letting other interests just jerk you around?

  If you are a downtown business, do you not think addicts live outside your door already? Do you not think it is better that there is a service for their general health and other specific needs than going without?

  At the very least, any slightly insightful person should be able to see that an exchange program results in less discarded needles.

  If you look into it, that is the very least of the beneficial services such a program will provide.

  Buy a load of sterile needles et. al. of suitable sizes and type, and a sharps box for disposing of used needles. Then set up a needle exchange at City Hall. You will get you far better press, and be far more annoying to City Hall, which will lead to faster action.

  AND there is no risk of those at risk being harmed.

  ... oh, and I do realise it is quite unlikely an addict will come to City Hall (or the steps outside if inside isn't possible -

  In Victoria, B.C., the same province orbison has this percieved problem, the Nurses needle exchange is directly across the street from City Hall. Hasn't limited their delivery of services one single bit.

  Additionally, the Victoria needle exchange is surrounded by thriving busineses, including the highly tourist oriented Gate of Chinatown. Immediately beside the needle exchange, a successful hair salon, around the corner, a quaint old building with a law office and architechs.

  employees from hell

  how many are managers/supervisors and have to deal with one or two employees who are complete and udder nightmares, i.e.

  not staying in their desk, always behind, always a crisis and have to leave work, has a smart-ass attitude when counseling or cries when you tell them what they need to be doing?

  i have one that my boss hired as soon as i was promoted and i have to manage that employee and my boss knew about this person was when they was hired!!

  If you are his supervisor, start supervising!

  Set some standard goals you' d like to see anyone at his level acheive. Put it on paper, then arrange for a sit-down.

  Present the goals and your prefered time limit of acheivement. Document it.

  Ask him if he has the resources to accomplish the goal. Document it.

  Provide him with the resources required to achieve the goal on time. Document it with a signature.

  When he fails, have a sit-down where you bring in the documentation. Ask him why he is still failing.

  If his explanation is outside of the expected agreement, shut him down, refer to your documentation.

  Indicate to him that his agreed performance is below agreed upon expectations, but you will agree to one further chance to elevate his performance.

  New performance goals and dates are presented and agreed upon. Document it with a signature.

  Resource allocations are agreed upon. Document it with a signature.

  When he fails on this, you can begin to present your problem employee to whoever hired the failure in the first place.

  If it is not clear from the above, you must set goals, tools to acheive, DOCUMENT, and then execute.

  i'd like to get comments from people about whether and how much they were shocked, surprised, or otherwise bothered by the watchtower society's becoming an associated non-governmental organization (ngo).. note that i'd like to see these comments because they might lead to some interesting publicity, so please comment accordingly.. alanf

  After the egoism and personal grandstanding that had me quite fed up with the SilentLambs situation, the unerring dissection of the UN/JW/NGO connection found here restored my belief that minds larger than mine were cracking away at the hypocritical foundations of the WBTS.

  The information has been invaluable in slowly easing open minds closed tight like a fist.
